This is totally new to me! I have rode on Boston trackless trolleys in the past, but never knew of this service until browsing at other trolley coach videos, mostly classic ones of coaches no longer running. Many years ago, Public Transport in New Jersey experimented with trolley coaches that also used diesel engines where overhead wires were not used. They had a basket that would catch the dual poles and guide them to the wires. Thanks for sharing. I need to find out more info on this line.
You see the two triangular metal "roofs" along the wires when the buses raise their poles at 4:15? Those help guide and "re-rail" the poles onto the wires.
Now we have Link Light Rail and RapidRide A, B, C, D and S routes. Theres no need for the Bredas anymore. The Bredas are now used as street trollies instead for routes, 7 to Rainier Beach/Prentice, 36 Othello Station (sometimes), 43 U District, 44 Ballard, 49 U District.
at least its still a kind of trolley bus i remember lots of british cities had trolley buses in britain but the speed on starting was quite svere and passengers had to hold on tightly dave waterfield [age70]
Interesting how the trolley pole go up and connect with the wires without any problem, I wonder how they did that, I though the service was alright , when I flew into Boston airport and back to the airport from the city centre.
Nice video from the Boston Trolleybusses. Thank you for uploading. - I think there are not so many trolleybus systems still operating in the USA, correct?
These are not new to the Boston area. Trackless trolleys ran out of the Everett Station to Malden as well as other locations in the late 50's, early 60's
Kind of a city budget white elephant too, cause tunneling is expensive and should be used for long trains that carry a lot of people and make a lot of money on fares. rather than short buses. Buses just can't make enough fares to pay back the high cost of digging the tunnels.
There are trolleybuses in tunnels in Seattle, Washington; and Boston, Massachusetts. Diesel buses run through shared tunnels with trains in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It's rare but not unique in the United States.
Does anyone know the timeline for removal of the overhead wires on the Silver Line? MBTA is supposedly replacing the trolley buses with battery-electric buses
All the tunnel buses are being overhauled, body and electric equipment. So they should be good for at least another 5 years. Five battery-electric buses are on order but they will be to increase the service e.g. for the new SL3 line.
Ibrahim Jalloh - that's what I call them as well because they look like Accordions on wheels. I live 45 minutes from Boston, and whenever I used to go out there with some people, I would call those busses *"Accordions buses"* - or *"Accordions on wheels".*
Doubtful, American/Canadian safety standards vary from European standards and shipping buses overseas would be expensive. They'll probably seek out a French or German company to develop the buses instead.
Transport Photography by RomiaouTheOcelot No this ist a Trolley Bus system, only electric. Look at the O-Bus in Salzburg,Europe. This ist more modern as this.
Wrong city! Besides, NYC replaced WTC 1 and 2 with The Freedom Tower, 1776 feet tall, and built monuments in the foundations of the destroyed buildings. Every major city in the world has a World Trade Center, for example Seoul Korea.
abdifatah warsame Electric power from S. Station thru Waterfront Tunnel to Silver Line Way, then switch to diesel for rest of trip (SL1 Airport via Williams Tunnel, SL2 Design Center).
They are dual-mode buses. They use electricity in the tunnels, and can use diesel when electricity is not available, so they can go where there aren't any wires.
Ibrahim Jalloh Look closely and you will see 2 trolley poles on top of each bus. There's very little clearance, and it's hard to see, but they are there. They are called dual-mode buses, and they use diesel engines outside of the tunnels.
...american designs are old and uggly, there are older trolleybuses in the excommunist block of East Europe that are more modern!!....the inneficiency in space are notorious the electric motor portion is an example, the hard seats....and so on!!!
I actually agree that US public transportation could have really done better job to look better. NYC doesn't even wash subway cars exterior. They just run all dusty.
These are Neoplan buses which is a German company. Though these were made by the US Neoplan division that went bankrupt in 2006. The bus designs are from the parent company with some modifications. They are 15-20 year old buses.
Fresh Mint well it makes sense to save money on infrastructure for some cities, that don't have the means or the ridership that justifies building trains
Boston has 275 million yearly ridership for a city of 600k, which makes it the third most used system in the country. We have a bunch of trains and lines. Yes, it’s getting old, but replacements are coming.

Потрясающе! Других слов не подобрать!
I really like the self wiring system, very cool!
I love these trolleybuses!
Sensacional magnífico Espetacular só veículos lindos parabéns o vídeo ficou excelente
Muito bom o vídeo, parabéns. Cidade linda e o transporte é ótimo.
I used to live there.
I used to live in that city
I’m currently living here
very interesting video, very cool!

Interesting combination of trolley and BRT.
You forgot routes: 1, 2, 3, and 11.
Seattle's Bredas mode-changed in 10 seconds. Boston's Neoplans take 50-60 seconds.
In the video they seemed pretty quick
you got to be kidding me I never ever seen a bus down in a subway
Denise Hudson same bro
@482lost we have the exact same thing in Seattle. We have dual tunnels which have buses and light rails sharing the road. We also have trolley buses.
Very nice dual-mode buses.
Now that’s just weird. A bus underground? How did they even get the bus down there
at least its still a kind of trolley bus i remember lots of british cities had trolley buses in britain but the speed on starting was quite svere and passengers had to hold on tightly dave waterfield [age70]
Interesting how the trolley pole go up and connect with the wires without any problem, I wonder how they did that, I though the service was alright , when I flew into Boston airport and back to the airport from the city centre.
they operate on electricity (via the pole) and then switch to diesel once outside
thanks for the video
Nice video from the Boston Trolleybusses. Thank you for uploading. - I think there are not so many trolleybus systems still operating in the USA, correct?
Smart looking buses-I assume this is the type of bus that metro-the West Yorkshire PTE wants to run in Leeds with their new trolleybus system.
I’m Even Surprised a Bus Alarm can go Off

Как по мне, украинские\русские\белорусские троллейбусы всех красивей и милей.
The only BRT system with a underground stations "Subway" portion.
Hairee Stener Not the only one. Seattle, Washington, USA has a bus subway that now shares the tunnels with light rail.
These are not new to the Boston area. Trackless trolleys ran out of the Everett Station to Malden as well as other locations in the late 50's, early 60's
It is so hard to drive in the tunnel

Baltimore had these in the 1940's.
Kind of a city budget white elephant too, cause tunneling is expensive and should be used for long trains that carry a lot of people and make a lot of money on fares. rather than short buses. Buses just can't make enough fares to pay back the high cost of digging the tunnels.
Is this their invention, or they just did like Kanden/Tateyama tunnel trolleybuses?

There are trolleybuses in tunnels in Seattle, Washington; and Boston, Massachusetts. Diesel buses run through shared tunnels with trains in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It's rare but not unique in the United States.
Boston MA.... Bet beautiful city
How are they so accurate with reconnecting to the line
easy they know where to stop its a mark typicly. pole shoe is centered by angeled metal guides on the wires

I LOVE them ...why don't they be electric the whole length of their line Damn it
It's a sad state of affairs when an American city has far more innovation than Sydney with their buses.
You could say it's metro on wheels lol.
Without wheels, metro's won't be able to move unless it's a maglev metro.

This bus seems to Metrobus to Mexico City, although electric bus.
I call these Accordian Buses
Ibrahim Jalloh I like calling them "bendy buses" because its descriptive and funny. The ones in Pittsburgh were comfortable, for buses.

Do these buses consume fuel or they use the wired lane as a electrical charge?
This is a Trolleybus...
abdifatah warsame
See 1:10 for a dual mode bus lowering its pantograph and switching to diesel.
It uses wire
abdifatah warsame It uses both

They are dual-mode buses. They use electricity in the tunnels, and can use diesel when electricity is not available, so they can go where there aren't any wires.
