    Steve deserves a significant amount of recognition and gratitude. His Glacier content is excellent and is a “must watch” for anyone planning a trip. Just returned from an extended visit to the park, and it was beyond expectations. Cheers Steve! If you’re ever in west MI, dinner is on me.

      Thanks for recognizing the work! I'm in the early stages of researching a "Parks of Lake Superior" Guide. It's been a couple of decades since I've been to the UP, if you have any ideas, please share them.

    I put on one of your videos every time I sit down to relax, unwind, eat, etc. It's therapy. 😊 Also, if you ever decide to publish a coffee table book with your photos, I'd be first in line. Thank you for all you do.

      Thank you very much! I did a .pdf book a few years ago. Very hard to get a return on the investment.

    It's always such a gorgeous drive to take. And a really intense drive too with some pretty narrow sections of road with sharp turns!

    Well I must say when you said you had the best videos of GNP, I thought “we’ll see”. And… you are correct! There aren’t very many videos that go into detail about the east side like you do. The other videos I’ve watched hardly mention the east entrance. It looks more appealing to me than the west side. I like all the small pull off hiking trails with their fabulous views! Thanks!

      Well thanks! I prefer the east side of the park and Many Glacier in particular. crowds are a problem though. If you aren't already check out my 2hr "Glacier: The Hiker's National Park" video- lots of info .

      @@TheWestisBig I watched quite a few Glacier videos last year before we went last July and yours were the most helpful. Appreciate your videos and we plan on hiking to your lunch spot on the highline trail this year. Last year was our first time and was a little frustrating with parking so going to utilize the shuttle for hiking this time.

      @@TheWestisBig I’ll definitely let you know after our trip in August if we had to use it to help you out. We had a cabin last year in Polebridge and this time we got a cabin right on the road into Many Glacier. I wanted to stay in the park but needed a fridge and a way to cook food since we are on the go all day until late.

      Great video thanks I was there in 2021 and just amazing views you got to see it in person. I got to add I wanted to see the stars at night and at around midnight at the apgar boat ramp lake McDonald I witnessed the most amazing sightings you don’t see anywhere the milky way was plain to see awesome and even a shooting star was present God’s amazing handiwork

    I love your videos! I’m heading to Apgar campground at the beginning of June (3 nights) and then heading to St Mary’s campground for 2 nights. Since I’m staying in the park, do I need a reservation to drive the going to the sun road? TIA

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I believe you’re ok since both of those campgrounds are between the Sun road entrances you’re camping res is also a vehicle res for those days. Btw- you don’t need a pass on the east side until July 1.
      Please let me know how that works - any hassles or surprises will help inform others.
      I assume you’ve watched my 2hr Gnp guide. Of not it’s the most comprehensive on YT. should help make the most of your time on the trip

    Another epic video. I leave for GNP on July 4. The West side road construction made me envision a long line to enter the GTTSR at 6 AM. I figured that it could prevent me from getting a parking spot at Logan Pass visitor area for the Highland Trail... So... I decided to stay on the East side of the park so I'd be able to enter the GTTSR before 6 AM. Do you think that was a good plan? July 4 one night at an AIRBNB in Babb, MT; July 5 one night at Swiftcurrent Motor Inn in a cabin, July 6 one night at St. Mary Village Great Bear Lodge; July 7 one night at Motel Lake McDonald; July 8 one night at Mini-Golden Inn. How does that sound. Your videos made this trip possible. I must say it is terribly difficult to plan a trip to GNP.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a lot of packing and unpacking. The east side is my favorite and Babb is just out side MAny Glacier which is my fave area. Please let me know how the accommodations work out. Especially the ones near Babb and the st Mary village.

    Great info video ever, i have a question, im planning to go there in the end of October (one month later) but i heard that going to the sun road will close at that time then how can i go to each trailheads by a car? Like highline trailhead at logan pass and siyeh bend?

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depending on where the road is closed you may not be able to get to logan pass and the highline. if on the west side, the road is closed above the loop you can hike from the loop to Granite Pass which is about 2400 feet and 4 miles to reach the Highline Trail. Or you can drive onHighway 2 over to the other side of the park to Maany Glacier, and then take the bullhead lake trail and go up swift current pass 7.5 miles and 2400 foot climb to the Highland Trail. Syeh Bend is on the east side and the trail head probably is before the the road closure point which means you should be able to do that hike. If you’re staying on the west side you’ll have to take Highway 2 which is about 2 1/2 3 Hour Drive to the east side and the Syeh bend trailhead.

    Hi Please help! How far on the GTTSR can I drive from West Glacier before encountering steep drop-offs without any guards? I see the big brick blocks which look great but then a bunch where there is nothing. Just cannot drive on roads with drop-offs without a guardrail or those brick blocks. I would have a panic attack and then get stuck. So I was thinking to drive as far as I can to a shuttle stop and then grab a shuttle from there to the east side.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i believe there is always some sort of guard at the edge. or drive it from east to west! then you have a whole lane between you and the edge.

    • @fordhamvid
      @fordhamvid 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am going from West Glacier, so I am trying to determine how far I can go from the west before the un-guarded sections- maybe stop there and grab a shuttle the rest of the way. Help if you have that info, thanks @@TheWestisBig

      the area east of Logan pass is called her big drift. i guess there’s no guard there to allow snow freely descend. the road is pretty straight there.
