TE4 is a sleeper hit for me. I played it on steam both 3 and 4. Of course all the things you mentioned are true. Graphics really don’t help. But, as a club tennis player myself, this game is fire to me. Just wish he had a big development team behind this game. 2k robbed me blind… so disappointed with it.
Howdy Machete, awesome video! Appreciate your effort diving into TE and sharing your honest thoughts, and for giving my channel a shoutout. Glad you enjoyed the XKT mod! It is in fact a collective effort from an entire team aside from me, including xk, stef, barbie, and many others. And also squeakybum and oserkos for keeping up the XKT(WTSL) sub-patch - so special shoutout to all these folks for their spectacular work. Overall really excited to see what the future holds for TE and hope to catch more of you on the online tour :-)
My last tennis game before TE4 was Great Courts 2 on the Amiga, so I didn‘t have any issues learning the controls. After a while, they just feel natural. Also, the difficulty system is awesome. It is very granular and you can increase it step by step, so the game never gets boring or overwhelming. You can integrate Tennis Elbow Manager 2 into TE4 which makes Career mode even more fun. I also love the modding capabilities. Besides the community mods, I made my own mod with my own tournaments and stadiums, etc and integrated it into the career campaign. Also the developer responds to every single inquiry and bug report! Most of the time within hours. Never experienced such a support from any company. The only drawback might be the animations, but the developer said that this might also get improved. I think, this game deserves support and every tennis game lover should at least give it a try.
Thanks for the nice & fair review..! 🙂 You can simulate matches with TE4 by changing your player control from Human to CPU, and then skipping to the end of the match : it takes around 30 seconds for 3 sets on a decent rig. As stated in another comment, you can also get TEM2 and activate it within TE4 and then simulate your match in text mode which also offers an instant result.
As a huge tennis fan, I'm so glad TE exists. By far the most realistic physics of all tennis games I've played. The graphics just can't take away the satisfaction of playing a rally that feels like the ones you watch. Weirdly it feels good to be able to make errors lol. It's also worth noting how similar the shots of specific players are to their actual game, to me surprisingly more realistic than many games with actual licences for some reason. Sometimes it feels like big studio games focus on getting licences to draw in players and neglect the gameplay, as if they were made without any input of folks who are passionate about the sport. One thing that kinda sucks to me is that real life players in the base game don't always have realistic attributes, like defender Ostapenko with 1hbh, or hard hitter Kuerten, and it's not clear to me how you could change it. Same with changing appearance, like with 70s players in modern clothes. But I think these are minor issues compared to how good the gameplay feels
Great review! I was a huge fan of TE3, and completely agree that Tennis Elbow has the best (and most immersive) career mode by far. The gameplay is very nuanced and makes you feel and appreciate the differences each surface brings. (e.g. Beating Nadal in clay was close to impossible). Can't wait to try TE4 on the PlayStation. After watching your review, it will definitely be a day one purchase for me!
Absolutely agree. Picked this game up just 3 weeks ago and I am just amazed und baffled at the same time, that this has been created by mainly one person plus a small supporter base. The mods complete the game. However I am certain, that many of today’s gamers lack imagination to overcome the old school graphics, which is a shame, because this is the best sports and tennis game I have played in a decade. And I love the career mode. If you love tennis, you will love tennis elbow 4. BTW if you get tennis elbow manager 2, you can combine it with this game. This way you enhance your career mode and you can simulate career games 😉
I played and loved the original Top Spin and I found TE4 to be intuitive from that experience. What I miss about a bigger game like that is the additional stuff you get to keep you engaged.
love this game... Manutoo is a genius! It's made by a tennis lovers for tennis lovers around the world... it's a game full of soul and personality... quite unique in every way, and differently from full ace, the developer doesn't burn you or implies you are stupid for asking something...
I played TE2013 for a very long time and I have had TE4 since the very early stages of development. The game is the closest tennis simulation to reality ever, but for now, it lacks the beautiful animations of the champions that some modders created for its predecessor in the past. For a tennis player and enthusiast like me, it is a bit unsettling to play with animations that resemble those of a beginner who has only had 2 hours of lessons.
I absolutely love playing Tennis Elbow 4. I only wish the ball bounced a little bit higher. A lot of times the ball just dies on you, unlike a real tennis ball. But otherwise really really fun.
Thanks for these reviews. You've made up my mind to get this one as I was actually looking at TieBreak first. Something I noticed about these games is there doesn't seem to be much variation around serving power. It's been so long since I played a good one, but I remember in Jennifer Capriati's Tennis the servers had different power so when you played the next player in the tournament and it was Boris Becker you knew the serve was going to give you some issues. Wonder why they don't have different power for different players serves?
I am glad to hear you find my reviews useful! Serving is the weakest point of Tennis Elbow 4 gameplay imo. From current tennis games, I like the most serving in Full Ace - it requires skill and you do feel the bang behind serves from players like Hurkacz, Kyrgios or Roddick. Tho, no clue how it compares to Jennifer Capriati's tennis as I haven't played that game.
Love Tennis Elbow 3 (Grand slam mod) and 4 (XKT mod). Its a game more for the purist who likes simulators. The onboarding without mods and learning curve will turn off many, especially the casuals who want the best graphics and arcade action.
Awesome game, pretty well made considering one person made it. Anyhow, it's predecessor was really good too, was modded to hell and back and still worked like a Swiss watch. That said, I believe there could be more implementations of some more awkward animations of players getting to the ball when it's out of reach, the running could be smoother and so on, but it's basically on par with whatever comes out today, and is much better than the likes of AO Tennis 2, especially considering that you can mod the game and have the whole roster.
Sure the graphics is not next-gen but if the gameplay is this good then graphics will not be an issue. It has decent graphics and it's totally acceptable. As with a movie or tv-show even if the CGI is not up to par with today's standard if the story and character is good it's easy to over look the CGI. But if story is bad then the CGI becomes a problem. Gameplay will always be the most important factor everything else is just tweaks, basically.
First time i played it, got my ass beat very badly but once I figured out the movement and the right difficulty for me I felt in love with it. Still I'm super bad but gameplay is way better than any game and I can't wait for the playstation release of it
Glad to see this video here! Tennis Elbow is the goat when it comes to "tennis simulator", every decision feels just like playing tennis, you have to think in each shot and the AI is perfect in its gameplay logic. As for this new version in particular I feel that it is still not up to the level of TE3, I still do not enjoy it as the previous one, I like it but it still has things to improve.
@@machetegaming In TE3 the gameplay feels smoother and not so "pingpong" but the last update has corrected that a bit. In TE4 it is easy to make aggressive shots practically without missing, it was also something that was talked about in the forum and it is being improved. What I point out is how well balanced the gameplay feels in TE3, but I know it's a matter of time and the game will be better than the previous one. I bought TE4 as soon as it came out and I'm testing every patch with and without mods.
@@yeeeaaahmayneee3808 I have it and I play it frequently. It is difficult to say for me but, I think that FAT rivals directly with TE4 and not with TE3, each one has its good and bad things equally both sagas are excellent.

hi, I play on Xbox and after the update it made me lose all the mods and all the career saves, do you know if there is a way to recover the career data?
Ditch the bad background music. I am simulating the careers of The Three Grands - the grandsons of John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, and Bjorn Borg in their efforts to take the torch from the Big Four. It isn't starting now, but rather back at the beginning of Bjorn Borg's career, with every tournament simulated in TE4.
Yes, you can integrate Tennis Elbow Manager 2 into your career (have to start new one though). You become like a manager of a tennis club and have to manage finances, hiring staff, recruiting new players, etc. Training of your player(s) is more extensive, too! But the on-court gameplay from Tennis Elbow 4 stays. So basically you make Tennis Elbow 4 become a tennis manager game with Tennis Elbow 4 gameplay!
Mod used here is available within the game. Everyone can access it from "mod management" menu whether you're on PC or console. Check out my guide on "Getting started" for more info on how to install mods.
The run movement is still weird, not realistic like what we see on tennis games. Something is wrong with the foot movement and body is stiff up while running. Needs to correct this. Maybe make the run animation in TS2k25 as the basis on how the proper foot and body movement were done. From there make the necessary adjustments.

@@robryan4080Tiebreak is 100% broken. Other than no high risk button & the game being a predator, Topsin2k25 feels like a proper topspin game. You should consider it. I'm also talking offline only I don't care about online.
Bro, is this a joke? excellent tennis simulator? 😂😂😂. Maybe the physics of the ball is correct, but it's so horrible to see that it's impossible to understand if the simulation is correct.
I have yet to see a tennis video game that doesn't have graphics that totally suck. And that say that as someone who has bought just about every tennis game that has come out in the last 15 years. Someone who just got Black Myth Wukong on Steam looks at these tennis games thinks, no way in hell would I be caught dead playing one of these ugly pieces of crap.
That's cool you like FA more. Both games are really close. Both are very good tennis simulators. Tell us more. Why do you think FA has an edge? Personally, I think it boils down to which gameplay style player likes more.

Bro, is this a joke? excellent tennis simulator? 😂😂😂. Maybe the physics of the ball is correct, but it's so horrible to see that it's impossible to understand if the simulation is correct.
Yes
Big skip for me
So, what is your flavor?
Try "mtkil" to skip matches
I have yet to see a tennis video game that doesn't have graphics that totally suck. And that say that as someone who has bought just about every tennis game that has come out in the last 15 years. Someone who just got Black Myth Wukong on Steam looks at these tennis games thinks, no way in hell would I be caught dead playing one of these ugly pieces of crap.
Top Spin 4 best!

This game isn’t that great.
This game is no match to topspin 5 or tiebreak
Looks awful sorry, why do people praise it so much, look at how they run

@@exessen1684bros all upset because someone has a different opinion, low iq level
Sorry, but Full Ace Tennis Simulator has the edge for the moment.
That's cool you like FA more. Both games are really close. Both are very good tennis simulators.
Tell us more. Why do you think FA has an edge?
Personally, I think it boils down to which gameplay style player likes more.
Looks shitty 😂😂😂😂
But not the physics
