😂Great minds think alike!! I've been adding a light white wine to my split pea soup recipe forever- but we do add a dollop of sour cream or even crème fresh when serving, which thickens it up a bit.🙃 And YES, add bacon to eat, and a smoked ham bone to flavor- you JUST cannot go wrong with thick sliced BACON❣️🥓 ❤🥓🤗 Thank you for all you do and share with us, Louise!🥰 Wishing you and your family a beautiful, peaceful Christmas!
@TheSaltedPepper ... I just ordered. Can't wait to look through it. Am I able to save the pdf file to a device, or must I always use the link sent to my email address. (Never have purchased digital copy before). Merry Christmas!
I love ham and split pea soup. My grandma made it with potatoes also.Never thought of adding wine.. I will definitely be trying your recipe - it looks delicious. Merry Christmas to you and Jeff!
We do it because it melds the flavors so well. But if texture is an issue...try it smooth but then add chopped crusty bread...i take a baguette chop coarsely, toss it with olive oil, dry thyme and parmesan/ragusano cheese. Bake it just long enough for the cheese to heat/slight melt. 😋😉 @TheSaltedPepper
I love pea soup! I am so glad that you found a recipe that you enjoy!! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Love your channel and look forward to watching all the new ones you come up with!! Have a wonderful evening!
As a descendent of a Swede, I make my pea soup with yellow peas instead of green peas. They are more mellow in their flavor than the green peas. And, I had learned from a French family many years ago that pea soup is great with a little dab of spicy mustard in each spoonful. I will be trying your chunky recipe, but I will stick with yellow peas. Merry Christmas!
Never thought of bacon-so much easier than getting a ham hock! I grew up eating split pea & black bean soup. So good.! Going to have to try this in my Ninja!
Absolutely delicious! I was just like you when it came to split pea soup, but omg this is sooo good thank you for the recipe,it definitely is a keeper. Just finished making it in my insta pot enjoying a bowl.
I have been making almost ( minus the wine) the same recipe for almost 10 years. ( When I still was using a regular pressure cooker.)I made it one year after Christmas and everyone absolutely loved it & the older people were like this tasted like someone's grandma made it. It was funny because I was actually a newer grandma at the time so I said someone's grandma did make it, Jocelyn's grandma made it :) HA HA I do blend mine because that is what we prefer but I do also like it with the whole veggies :).. Thanks for the video.
Just discovered this channel and the soup looks amazing but sadly I don’t have a pressure cooker can I still use a normal large saucepan and how long do I cook it for 😊😊😊
Merry Christmas to both you & your husband --- Thank you so much for your great videos because I was lucky enough to find you on TH-cam. I learned how to use my Ninja Pressure cookers. You offer great receipts & wonderful instructions. Split pea soup looks yummy! Cheers & Happy New Year 2024! 12/24/2923
Marry Christmas to you and Jeff. Thank you so much for this recipe I have already sent around to my family. I make this soup several times a year the old fashioned way. Always wondered about the foodi, so I thank you so much for this recipe.❤❤❤
Ok. I already make a pretty damn good split pea soup in my Ninja Foodi. But….. I am trying this recipe and excited about adding the wine. I also add a pinch of hot pepper flakes and some dried thyme leaves. Super delish.
I also make a version where I use chunks of sweet and hot Italian sausage instead of ham. I keep the pieces decently large, more like mini meatballs. Also use plenty of garlic and add bay and oregano. If you have a parmesan cheese rind, great use for it in there. Amazing twist in it. I use white wine in it too.
thank you! I usually made it for my Winter Holiday party, but one year I forgot to get ham - thought I had some in the Freezer - and improvised and everyone loved it. I've also subbed the small navy beans for the split peas and that soup was fantastic with Italian sausage
Hi. I love split pea soup. My friends mom made hers with smoked turkey leg meat. You can find it in the meat section in grocery stores. I had never had it like that and let me tell you it is awesome. Give it a try one day. I have ham I need to use and will be making yours. Have a nice day everyone.
I bet that is delicious and I will try it next time I have smoked turkey! I just used smoked turkey legs in a jambalaya that I made and they added so much flavor.
This recipe is very similar to how I make it. I will have to try the wine and pepper bacon next time. We prefer ours chunky too, and there simply HAS to be leftovers!
I don't really have one, but I was just sitting here thinking about what I could make and prime rib is at the top of my list. I will have to search the freezer! LOL
For more texture, try 2-pounds of peas, start cooking with one pound until they have broken down into a thick broth, this will take care of the thickness, and then add the second pound and cook and they will remain most whole.
Ham & split pea soup has been my favorite since I was a little girl. When our parents went out, which was rare, we were each allowed to choose what we wanted for dinner. I always choose ham and split pea soup 😊😅
I haven't tried it with red wine so I'm not sure how it would be. The red wine will do the same thing as far as adding a little acid to the soup and it is such a small amount I don't think it would be an issue with flavor, but I think the white wine pairs better with this soup. Please let me know if you try it with red!
Wow! Congratulations, Louise!!! I'm so excited for and proud of you! You did it!!! I'm definitely going to try this soon! By the way, where ever did you get those beautiful carrots? They're gorgeous! 😍
Looks great. I love that it is chunky. Split pea soup with ham is my favorite.

Love it!! Glad I'm not alone in adding the wine! What a difference it makes!
Soo my dear, do you have a cookbook out for sale.

We shred our carrots and finely dice the potatoes and ham to keep the pea soup smooth vs chunky...or i hit it with an immersion blender.
I think a lot of people like it like that, but I have never been able to eat it that way because of the texture.
We do it because it melds the flavors so well. But if texture is an issue...try it smooth but then add chopped crusty bread...i take a baguette chop coarsely, toss it with olive oil, dry thyme and parmesan/ragusano cheese. Thanks Louise! I can’t wait to make this. Happy New Year to you and Jeff!

As a descendants of Czechs, I also use yellow peas.
Sounds great! I love the idea of a little mustard, that will do what the wine does and cut the richness.
Thank you. I cant wait to try this recipe, it looks delicious! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Louise and Jeff!

Thanks so much! Happy Holidays!
I have two Ninja Speedi and four other Airfryers but I think I want to try the Pressure Cooker function with thermometer.
Absolutely delicious! I was just like you when it came to split pea soup, but omg this is sooo good thank you for the recipe,it definitely is a keeper. Just finished making it in my insta pot enjoying a bowl.
Nice. Try it with yellow peas next time :)
I will! I have heard they are earthy tasting compared to slightly sweet. Is that your experience?
Not as pungent as green peas. Almost like a bean w/ bacon soup taste. A lighter taste. It's a Canadian style version.@@TheSaltedPepper

P.s also love your serious show
Can you use cooking sherry instead of the wine?
Merry Christmas Louise and Jeff 🎄🎄. Can I use yellow peas instead of green??
Yes you can! I understand they are a little different in taste, but the cooking time remains the same. Merry Christmas!
I love to add a small can of sauerkraut and diced potatoes - finished
it with frozen peas
This recipe is very similar to how I make it. I will have to try the wine and pepper bacon next time. We prefer ours chunky too, and there simply HAS to be leftovers!
I hope you love the peppercorn bacon!
I love split pea and ham, I just use ham hocks instead of bacon or ham. I also use leeks instead of onions, and I shred the carrots.
Even with the ham hock, try the pepper bacon!
My mother would pull out a cup or so of the peas and mash them then out back into the soup to thicken
Merry Christmas, Louise. What is your go to dinner for Christmas?
I don't really have one, but I was just sitting here thinking about what I could make and prime rib is at the top of my list. I will have to search the freezer! LOL

I do it in batches like that also, gives you mushy peas and firm ones.
That's a good idea! I will give that a try next time.

I just leave the ham out
Why ten minutes?
Hey chubby....why not list the recipe on the goddamn channel (TH-cam) that we're watching??? 🤔🙄
