- n each bi-monthly episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PST), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. On this episode of DiResta, Jimmy whips up a mold from a Rodin "Thinker" statue to make a lamp. Bright idea!

For DIY vlogs, this is the preferred style. Low on personality (all the wonderful down-home humor, music, emotions, and lists of tools needed for the job, what they did last week, etc.)...and instead, high on information. The recognition here is that the information is why we are watching the vlog, and the personality stuff, just something to be endured until the information begins to flow. Three thumbs up for Diresta vlogs.
mu99ins Jimmy is also a pretty cool guy, he was in three tv shows a ways back. I also like how he focuses on the project and not what he ate for lunch.
Your solution to fixing that volume issue made me speak out "i wouldnt have thought of that damn"
Oh I get it, the lightbulb turned on, like he finally got whatever he was thinking about!
i like how he displaced the resin with wood because he didnt make enough
Not resin, but Silicone :D
G11B yeah it's a resin cast, but it was the silicone he displace with wood
PFFFT. Bi-monthly. DiResta is the best thing to happen to your channel.
I LOVE EVERYTHING YOU MAKE... I LOVE EVERYTHING YOU USE!!! good work my friend!!!
the castings are made with "Smooth On 320" . new TV show in the works ! thank you for the support !
on a more serious note I'm glad that you uploaded another vid. thank you.
Thank you all for the positive comments !
Like the idea , a thinker with a light bulb over his head ,👍👍👍👍👍
Not so much the destination but the road trip that counts. heck i'd go to anywhere with such a talented man and learn a bunch along the way.
Every stick every tool has "DIRESTA" on it xD
GamerV11 DIRESTA is the word
GamerV11 It's so when people copy and reupload his videos there is a name that people can look for to find his actual channel.
+Mattia Bertolini what happened to the bird? :o
I saw that refurbished Direstwing hatchet again. 0:25 Very fun! Excellent video too. Very informative.
Ha! I used to be so meticulous about mixing silicone rubber and here we see Diresta just throwing gobs of rubber with a stick.
Another great video by Jimmy!
Please, keep us posted on the tv show! Hope you show a bit more details about your creations on it. I really enjoyed dirty money! Best of luck on your future projects!
Thank you !!!!
I'm surprised, the plexiglass didn't have his name on it

Two weeks is way to long between videos I find my self rewatching all your videos over and over
Amazing as always!
Love the dialogue for this video. The mice are superb speakers.
Awsomness,bright mind.
Enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing.
Now that was a bright idea
Rodin's Thinker statue is so profound, even to this day.
I love your work.. you have lots of skill.keep up the vids.motivates me to create..
i really love your channel, very inspiring
Maybe it has been mentioned already. But with all the casting stuff (silicon or whatever) how much roughly did it cost to reproduce one thinking man?! The molding process is pretty dang cool
I really like the skillfuly placed alligatorhead at around 0:57.
So much work!
i guess you can say this video was well thought out 😂
Good lord I wish you put a video out every day... Scratch that, 5 times a day...
I hate the haters on Diresta's videos
I don't really mind the hater haters, it's a fun hobby.
Acrylic cut w table saw and chop saw like wood. Txu!
Amazing! Can you order one of these? If so, for what price?? I love the TV show "Dobie Gillis" and this lamp reminds me of it.
4:47 The noise when it pops free is too funny
Sweet work! Ironic but looking at doing a cast mold for a shifter handle in my Jeep so this helped for some inspiration
Hahaha... I see what he did there at the end. Thinker had an idea!
When these guy holds on something... He never lets it go. LOL
I wonder how well Mold-Max would work as an impressioning compound, compared to something like Mikrosil...I've heard of Mikrosil being used to make impressions of bearing surfaces for wear analysis.
The thinker with a light bulb above his head... Clever
Hey Jimmy, great vid!!!! How long did it take for the casting to dry? From the time lapse, I would guess about a half hour or so. Keep up the good work and hopefully the new show get's on tv. PEACE
It'd be cool if you made a huge one and put a light bulb in its head as the lamp
Great move around 2:50. At the moment many of us would have shrieked "F%$# I didn't make enough!", problem solved simply. Add some volume on the sides and let the middle rise above the head. Love it.
1:10 Just like those Slime/Gunge vids you can watch on the Tube. The Thinker must be thinking it's Slime Time!
Simple concept and something anyone can do. Also a good way to experiment with making castings. My only concern is someone trying to resell an item like that. What are the legal ramifications of using someone else's art to sell a product?
What's that pink pigment you add? Is it just to add colour or it's some sort of additive to improve the sillicone?
I liked the ridge coming out of the Thinker. It was like GodzillaThinker.
I get it, when yo switch on the light bulb, the Thinker has an idea ;-)
Let's have a DiResta episode EVERY Wednesday! Who's with me?
Jimmy, what was the last chemicals to make the final castings? Epoxy? Our still doing any TV shows?
So cool great job, but please could you add a cost estimation on your projects ?
woww so creative!!
THIS....IS....PART-A!!!
'The Thinker' is from a work done in 1880; that puts it into the public domain.
I like how the mold looks like a vulva
why don't you sell those thinker lamps on your website, jimmy diresta?
First I thought it was ugly to put just a lamp on top, but now I get it haha ;)
i'm fan of your project. epic. continue :)...
Not to be negative, but isn't making copies of the statue for commercial use illegal?
alright Jim's back
This project in all was about 170 In materials. I was able to make 4 more 7 in all tax u.
You should be a handy man instructor!! I would love to learn from you very bright.
You are the man
Awesome.
Why paint the wedge of wood under the figure with acrylic paint before applying the silicone?
Favorite part, the hatchet cameo appearance.
you should have an online shop for this kind of stuff. i would buy some ;) peace.
Why did you remove the wedge block?
is there a place that makes these statues?
awesome
Diresta...Im on bended knee right now, holding in my hand a wooden ring to show my commitment to you...Diresta, will you be my big brother?!...nah, thanks for vid's man, I'm sure everyone is enjoying the shiet out of em'
boom!boom!Fire power!
how did you cut the acrylic? Let me guess no one will respond
Man you are The best :D
i wish i have half the tools U have :)
Me too,
But more importantly, I wish I had half his skill
It looks like he's mixing the pink with rage!
Wow amazing xD!!
How is that supposed to be a clock?
you should make a bathroom version with the thinker on the toilet seat... maybe a tissue holder or something... ;-)
this makes me somehow remind of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney, even though the Thinker Statue was actually a clock on the game :p
lol I thought of that case too :p
Jim could had carved that up himself instead of making a mold of something...he's quite the artist.
DIRESTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very impressive, u r awesome
can someone tell me what he used to cast the mold plz.
Mold max
The link to the notes is broken :(
share it in the make magazine online
Makes you think, doesn't it?
Excellent video as always. Who are the 9 people who don't like this? What's wrong with you?
5:26 this kills the man
1:09 - Appearance by the famous hatchet!
YOUR BEAN CAN HAS A SPOUT! :O
Now that makes me think..
Diresta makes Maker videos.
Good evening diresta. Good evening Jimmy sir. Strong lump. Wonder hai . 11 June 2018 . 23:04time.
A suggestion here would be rather than drilling from bottom to his back and sticking a lamp above his head. It would have been fun or very artistic if the lamp would have been in front of his legs on front side. It would be like he is thinking and staring at lamp :P
5:20 Oh yeahh work it with that drill :D
I've got two poses...the thinker....or the stinker.
so it would be smooth
Quite a messy mold. Why not make a fiberglass jacket and matrix mold it in two parts?
Bathroom ready.
