Giant Gonzalez was originally supposed to be the yeti and was going to be the third giant in the ring at world war 3. However, he had some sort of trouble with a visa or work permit at the time of the debut.
WCW still held out he might be available at the PPV which is why in the reveal they substituted him with Reese (giant ninja) wrapped in bandages, hence the yeti looking like a mummy, hoping they could unbandagel the Yeti as Gonzalez as if it had been him all along.
WhatCulture is trash and you should go back there *ESPECIALLY* if you are going to act like the prepubescents that make up their fan base.
On paper, the Goldust gimmick shouldn't have made it past the waste paper basket by the desk, but Dustin pulled it off and made it fucking work! Sure, it was just another version of 'The Exotic Adrian Street', but he DID IT and was a success.
To me Goldust was more of a cross between Street and David Bowie
Fun fact WWF(E) wanted to sign Adrian Street but as a manager of a neo nazi tag team but Adrian refused and so Adrian Adonis became adorable Adrian Adonis.

Bastion Booger, Man Mountain Rock, Max Moon, Duke The Dumpster Drosey, Abe Knuckleball Schwartz to name a few
They were all terrible. Man Mountain Rock had a great gimmick in WCW as Maxx Payne. MMR was just a watered down cheesy version of that gimmick.
Duke Droese had an awesome finisher though. That's the only thing positive I could say about him.
Abe Schwarz would have failed regardless since it was played by the Fuckin' Brooklyn Brawler.
Rocky Mountain Thunder, whose gimmick was that he wasn't into wrestling, but "scufflin'"...that and injuring people...

I remember being a kid going to watch Lucha Libre in Cd. Juarez Mexico. They had Freddy Krueger as a main event heel. During the same time they had Frankenstein and Dracula and Werewolf man as a trio opening the show against Batman Robin and I think mighty mouse. Even as I kid I didn't like those gimmicks. On the plus side I got to see Eddie Guererro (18yrs old), Mil Mascaras, Blue Demon, El Santo, Villano III, etc. Good times.

I still say The Gobboldygooker holds the highest rank in terms of ridiculousness and mind-numbing stupidity. At least with these other gimmicks, they attempted to wrestle. What the hell was the purpose of The Gobboldygooker's existence? All that "thing" did was dance appallingly. They spent a long time hyping up the mystery egg and what pops out is a man in a bird suit. Yeesh. More hilarious is when the announcers desperately did their best to sell it as the next big thing in WWE Wrestling as the entire gimmick was booed maliciously and vehemently.
Eyes11 and what was even worse was WHO they made wear the fucking turkey outfit - Hector Guerrero, one of the best workers in the history of the business!! As Corny would say, 'they deserved to be boiled in oil' for that one insulting injustice alone.
According to Bruce Prichard The Gobbledygooker was supposed to become the mascot of the WWE. It was supposed to be something to come out and entertain during breaks between matches. It was still a fucking stupid idea though.
Stupid because WWE still had tons of mascots to choose from out of the wrestlers in their ranks. Yet Vince believed a man dressed in a poorly-conceived bird suit could trump them. A portent of things to come, indeed.

Stupid gimmicks in WCW are not limited the Jim Herd days and later. I seem to remember a Crockett era tag team called The New Breed. They were supposed to be a couple of bounty hunters from the future, sent back in time to take out another wrestler with a stupid gimmick, Lazer Tron. Yes, it's not a typo, fucking Lazer Tron. He was a futuristic masked guy, with antennas on his head & a fucking laser tag receiver on his chest. He won the NWA Light Heavyweight title & formed a tag team with Boogie Woogie Man. Back to the New Breed, one of them broke his arm & had a forearm cast with a small circuit board and some wires stuck to it because he went back to the future and they gave him cybernetic repairs. Also, stupidly enough, they started a fued with the Rock N Roll Express because they hate rock music in the future and love the Beastie Boys. I swear to God I'm not making this stupid shit up!!!!!!
i dont even know what to say about bad cheesy gimmicks when The Undertaker is absolutely huge and beloved, and Sting blatantly ripping off The Crow was huge and beloved, and later he trying to blatantly rip off the Ledger version joker. and all of this after being huge for years as this spiked hair bleached blonde glitzy all American good guy for years, which even that in in of itself felt slightly indicative of Sting the rock star with the spiky blonde hair and that name. but then Jesus Christ you have some using the Sid Vicious name, that always just felt like straight up plagiarism to me.

Here's a good gimmick name/character I thought of...The Masked Infiltrator, a guy who tries to come off as a baby face, but is really a heel stooge who insinuates himself into other's conversations, buddies up to the real face wrestlers to try and get dirt on them, eavesdrops on private situations, or any manner of nefarious scenarios.
Isn't that a variant on what the WWE was going for with Just Joe before it got the plug pulled? A guy there to he around and stir the pot?
