    dang that reminds me of some of the old mining buildings that were in death valley in the 50s & 60s, not sure if anything is still left of them. after my dad found out that charles manson & his murderous bunch lived there he didn't want to take us out there anymore, even moved the family up north to get away from the craziness. sure miss death valley though, we used to spend almost every weekend & many holiday weeks out there growing up. thanks for the memory jolt, beautiful work!

    I love the old rustic and this type of inventive stuff. I watched your video on the old barns and buildings where you said they were popular in the 70s. I didn't know they had gone out of popularity. I was graduating High School in late 70s.

      Not necessarily gone out of style, but definitely not nearly as "hot" as they were in the 70s.

    I came for the lovable wonky buildings cause who doesn't want to do that? After years in engineering design, it is so hard to just let it go. I stayed for the rocks. Incredible. Another thing I struggle to randomize but you make it look so easy! I call my rock piles cannonballs and guinea pigs.

    Peter Sheeler does similar work, although his is less fanciful, Nil Rocha was a student of his and does more fanciful (check out their other socials for more elaborate works). This is my favorite way to watercolor and I've watched both of them on YT for years. PS you don't have to be a master artist, just pull out the lightpad and sketch directly over any reference or combination of references. Keep your lines broken/scribbly and washes loose. Anyone can do this with next to no experience. The most important part is getting your shadows right, just about anything works under the line and shadow. Great way to play with color, granulating/supergranulating paint, salt, etc.

      So that’s why Nil Rocha’s videos and painting look nearly identical to Peter Sheeler’s! I’ve been wondering why their video setup look almost exactly the same.

    Lovely project. I make similar sketches the other way round though. I paint with the watercolours over the pencil lines and then I ink the lines. This way I don't have to worry if the ink is waterproof or not.

    Lovely. Was reminded of Peter Sheeler.
    I'm illustrating a bunch of birds for a friend's book. Your tip about balancing rendering is one to remember. I tend to over render in both the ink and paint phases. Going to dial back on one or the other (depending on the subject). Thanks for the tip. Been wondering for a while now why some birds turn out well, when others don't and I think you've solved it 😆 thanks.
    I started doing WC about 4 or 5 years ago and learned mostly through your channel. Now it's one of my favourite mediums! Thanks, Steve.

    I love line & wash. I created a shark recently using Derwent Inktense pencils for the wash areas. It's probably the best thing I've done. It's included in a 3 x 5 cotton hot press sketchbook that I am filling with sea creature studies. Have you ever used the Derwent Inktense line?

      Love it except for one thing, it tends to drip ink into the cap when stored flat or point down. Usually just means I have to wipe a drop or two of ink off the barrel grip before I start inking. Makes me hesitate to take it in the field more.

    You still have that high pitch buzz in your voice over. Only when you're speaking though. I'm 30 and can hear it. I know as you get older the range of hertz that you can hear gets smaller. Just looking out 😀 great video btw

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. I'm aware. It's led light buzz and difficult to filter out completely. I usually will just turn them off on a voice over but forgot to this time. I use a sound gate to at least eliminate it when I'm not talking.

    I think I got scanned. I was told I won your contest.Thinking I have. I gave my phone number, and my address. They keep putting off what I won. Then they said they were going to teach me how to paint a bird. . Then come and pain my house. Then I knew I didn't win. That was the sad part. The reason I am telling you. If this happen to me. It can happen to others.
