  • Red Kites (Milvus milvus) are medium sized birds of prey that occur mainly in Europe. They feed almost exclusively on carrion, such as dead farm animals or roadkill, but occasionaly also will eat live animals, but these will invariably be young, sick or wounded. Red Kites lack the speed of other raptors to rely solely on hunting live animals. The bird in this video had been feeding on a roadkill rabbit and after finishing its meal, the bird moved to the post to clean itself. Two Common Ravens (Corvus corax), another large scavenger species, decided to mob the Red Kite. Because of the size of the Ravens the Red Kite became aware, getting into a defensive position as the Ravens made close flybys.
