Spent 2 years creating for an audience that wasn't there. Something clicked about a year ago and now we create for ourselves. The audience is still small but its grown more in the past 6 months than in the previous 2.5 years and we’re having a lot more fun. Well said! I think the greatest accomplishment one can achieve in life is to live a truly authentic life. You're right, Imposter Syndrome can be paralyzing and prevents many people from even starting that Dream Project. It's so difficult to to put our true selves out there. But I have discovered that I have more joy in life the more I allow myself to be vulnerable and just be ME. Thank you for discussing this today!
Even as an extroverted person it's really difficult to communicate in a natural and genuine way. Even now my channel bio makes me feel super uncomfortable to promote. Thanks for this Roberto.
Imposter Syndrome as a designer really sucks. I'm always awed by other's work and feel so inferior. I think what helps is to think/look back at my older work and realize I did grow, and all I can do is keeping growing and practicing.
WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS MAKING VIDEOS FOR ME?!?! 😂 This is what I needed to hear. I watched a few of our first videos and the first thing I thought was my personality didn't shine. One thing I like about myself is I'm funny and have a quirky personality. I need to work on bringing that out in our videos. Although I am feeling more comfortable with every video.
I watched Many of your videos (even before I started on TH-cam). I appreciate your advice & especially your sincerity. I made my first $100 with ads a couple of days ago 🎊🎉 & I hope to find more time to up-load more often. I've learned a lot from You. Thank You for being your Authentic Self Roberto 🤗
Thank you for being so authentic, honest and also humble Roberto. Really appreciate your advice and showing how everyone started from zero and we all keep improving.
I just watched them and You've improved in leaps and bounds since the early videos. I used to be shy/awkward too but now I push the ceiling and pop it off in every video
Being Authentic on TH-cam is the best way to be. I have started singing in some of my intros even with trailer reactions and my subscribers like it so much that when I don't sing in a video they are asking where was your singing. As far as I know for the kind of videos I do, I haven't seen anyone else doing it, I love to sing and I feel it also shows my crazy and random personality. My subscribers say they like how honest I am, and that they feel I am talking to them as though I would speak to a friend or family member and that's exactly what my idea was to achieve. I'm so glad it has work and I am so close to 10k so authenticity is great if you know how to do it. This is a fantastic video Roberto, some people go for the fake approach and its not a good idea. Best just being yourself. As you said it takes a while, I was so nervous too in the beginning I still get nervous but I still even tell people on my vids sorry guys I'm all over the place today I still get nervous it's me being honest with everyone and not hiding it love this video so much. 😊😎 You said don't cry to me about 100 vids. I have made over 200 😎 Roberto Blake keeps it real and I love him for it, much respect 🙏😎😍💯👍
Social anxiety is something I've dealt with since I was 12 (I'm currently 25). Honestly I would like to use TH-cam as a platform as a place where I can be a character rather than myself(a version of myself if you would). I honestly don't feel like people online are all that entitled to see the "real" me. They don't know me.
Dude, I respect the fact that you are real so much! It’s awesome that you let people see the things that make you, yourself cringe, but you still leave it for others to see. I respect that people are the end for you not the means! Really, it’s not common, and it’s awesome! 🙂
Exactly you hit the target. Im trying to be myself and people are now gravitate to my personality. Thanks for your truth. Im growing as a person. Wow man the more I hear what you say. Its exactly what Im going through
Wow, I felt that... I struggle with this in so many aspects of my life; not just as a TH-camr. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Roberto. Much appreciated!
For me it's fear of doing/saying something incorrectly. I get locked up sometimes at the thought of not putting out accurate information or thinking about how there are already better sources to learn from out there.
Imposter syndrome: something I definitely always struggle with. I make a lot of videos about stock photography (because that's what attracted most people to my channel). I've been doing stock photography for 2.5 years, but I know there's plenty of photographers who have been doing this for 10+ years and do it full time. So I definitely always think "am I even expert enough to be creating videos about this"? That's the imposter syndrome kicking in. Anyways, love your vids! Been watching you for a while now and have grown to 11k subscribers in under a year thanks to your words of wisdom :)
You have completely changed the way I see things now and honestly, thank you soo much! It really means alot to me. It gets me to work even harder on my TH-cam videos each and everyday. I hope that one day, I can meet you in person!! Thanks so much Roberto!
I think one of the main things holding me back is learning how to teach on this platform. I usually base a lot of what I say and my approach on how my student reacts to what I say and it’s easy for me to spot a problem they are making so we can work on fixing it. It’s hard for me to create a general lesson and how I should base the general tone of the lesson when I don’t see the person in front of me. I want to help others learn violin and I’m finding it difficult to keep it fun and make the lessons more interesting. There are so many more things I know that are holding me back but this is the one I’m mainly concerned about atm.
To answer your QOTD Roberto, early on before I started my channel, I was holding myself back because I was worried people wouldn't like my content or channel, and I didn't want to let myself down. It's almost like a fantasy when you plan it all out, but never start because you get this idea in your head and you like to think that it will be amazing or huge, but if you actually start and it goes nowhere, the fantasy is over and you're not left with much. But for me, I just had to do it and see, and I'm so glad I did. It's been incredible, even 17 videos in, I am at almost 300 Subscribers and the reaction and positive feedback has been beyond what I ever expected. I am helping people and that makes it all worth it. So glad I did it, and now I feel great about what I'm doing! :)
I actually haven't been feeling the impostor syndrome as much lately. Feeling confident, for once. Working on a plan for a new series that looks like it has a good chance to be sponsored which will be a great kick start that will allow me to focus my full attention on it. So things are looking good and I want to thank you for providing so many resources that are helping me pull it off. So thank you!
My chronic illness and depression are the biggest things holding me back. If I had more energy and mental clarity, I'd have a better time communicating and (probably) be more charismatic. I'd also be more motivated to improve.
That's I always post what I know and what I experienced.

Dude every video you speak nothing but that absolute truth. I truly appreciate your honestly and transparency man. Thank you for not just keeping it real with us all the time but showing it’s the STATS and FACTS. much respect - Josue
I'm working to overcome impostor syndrome. In my case, it's my age. I'm new to web design and digital marketing and I've just turned 60. I've got the education and the skills, but I was once turned down for a social media position because they decided I "wasn't native" to social media. I just keep creating and watching your videos for inspiration.
Imposter syndrome is a huge challenge in medicine. Very evident this month with all the brand new clinicians getting out into the real world. Great commentary as always! Thanks!
Great topic! I've been on TH-cam since 2014 and yes my camera presence has come a long way, but I still feel like my energy level on camera is too low. Since we do travel vlogs sometimes I'm legitimately tired, but other times I think I just need to up the energy in my presentation. I'm a pretty mellow person so it's an effort. One thing I've never wanted to do is impersonate anyone else. I've always wanted to be me and my style. Now I'm just working on uppping the energy level, but staying me.
Love this Roberto! Have my nose down just swinging the bat to figure out what even feels good to me and then gee how can I get better. So many are caught up on numbers straight out the gate rather than developing themselves and actually discovering who they are. Thank you for sharing. Have an awesome day!
Good video. I didn't know I had impostor syndrome before I tried to vocalize my feelings and someone told me to look it up and it literally hit the nail on the head.... What helped me (at least a little) was the story of an astronaut feeling like he didn't deserve to be at a gathering of great people .... because of impostor syndrome. At work I still feel like I'm the dumbest person there.... and that may very well be true because there's a lot of awesome people there. But I'm starting to get a little more confidence. Advice for people creating youtube videos: keep doing it, keep uploading. Some confidence comes with accomplishment. Just don't give up.
Great video Roberto........been subscribed for awhile but glad I had a chance to watch this video today........totally agree....You will be bad before you're good and good before you're great....its all a growth journey
I love this video! When I first started out & would start feeling discouraged I would watch the first videos of the bigger creators that I love to watch & it was always a good reminder that every one starts somewhere and most of their first videos looks the same way my first videos were looking
When I first started it was hard not having a million thoughts running through my head but now I don't let those negative thoughts enter my mind anymore.I just have to remember to keep my energy up.Thanks for dropping relatable content!
Awesome video, true words of wisdom spoken here. #1 rule of entrepreneurship is quit worrying about what others think since most of them will call you crazy anyway for going against the flow. Do what you love and share your enthusiasm and the "real" you will come through. No matter if you are making "stream of consciousness" or scripted videos on YT you have to be 100% certain of the product you are selling, which is YOU. 👍
Yesterday I reached 7k on my channel. It took me 2 years, yet I really worked hard and yeah I am grateful, that I reached this milestone. But I do feel the effort I put in doesn't reflect my channel size. I work extremely hard on my channel and it feels like its snail progress. I really enjoyed this video. There are a few things you mentioned that I needed to hear. Thank you for making this video. May your channel grow from strength to strength
What have started holding me back is the competition in my niche. Is very frustrating seeing people coping you without giving credit, going against your opinions in a defensive way (even if you did not say anything related to them or directed to them... and it is usually only opinions about makeup!). I fell like I have to think a lot before posting anything to prevent I touch on any subject that could bring more of this energy in my direction. It has been mentally exhausting because I started to compare myself with others all the time, which I was not used to do before.
Good point about the videos being personal. When I started my TH-cam channel a few weeks ago, I started an Instagram Page. I got really engaged with people on there. And I even did a lot of focus groups essentially by just doing questionnaires that I would post on Instagram and I got a lot of good feedback about my audience. And I even asked them for advice about my videos and I did this via posting, messaging, and my Instagram story. And just having conversations with people. And like you said, it makes the videos better because now I know with this video I'm speaking to specific people. Speaking to a group of people and I know who that group is. And when I make the video, I have confidence because it's a video idea that we came up with together.
Wow, Roberto. This is pure real talk. There are truths here that we all need to be reminded of. This is one of your strongest videos. Thanks for putting this out there! Keep up the great work.
I look at the videos I did last year when I first started. I had no idea how to edit videos. Even worse, I had broken my front teeth which made being on camera problematic. I am still learning to edit but have picked up some techniques and recently experimented with voice over videos. I kept those old videos from last year up on my channel as it's a journey to me-- evolving my channel. When I watch those old ones, I do see that I have improved technically. Still very tight budget and limited resources. Growth slower than average, but what I do is not the most popular to begin with. But I won't change it because I am doing what I want to do. My audience is growing-- slowly but surely. I have learned a lot from your videos.
I know people who have had this issue before. This is why I try my best to be 100% online. I share what I want to share, and what I do share is authentic. PS: I LOVE being a “small” TH-camr.
Roberto Blake has inspired me in so much ways he told me to never give up and showed me a different view of youtube. And now i followed his advice at the video how to get 100 subs .Now look where i am at 350 subs!It wasn't easy but i reached my goal and it does feel good so people who read this i want you guys to follow him and learn how to grow YOUR channel. Its not only subscriber but you can learn so much other advices such as patience and never giving up.THANK YOU ROBERTO BLAKE for always inspiring in a good way!!From you fan WILLIAM
Great job Roberto! I know this feeling, and you described it well. I know for myself personally it's balancing how I'd say it myself, but also being a bit more respectable due to the nature of my work!
It's easy to start but harder to be on camera and know what to say. You're right once you have confidence you make content comfortably. I wouldn't worry about subscribers or views I would work on confidence and self steam.
I actually don't think your early videos were horrible. Maybe you were a bit self-conscious, but you still came across as genuine, and a likable personality. But of course, we are our own worse critics. At any rate, please keep up the great work. I enjoy your videos and appreciate your work. Also, what you just said here is 100% true. The only way to get good at anything is to make lots of mistakes, and adjust, refine, and repeat the process over and over. It takes courage. And ignore the haters. They are the pathetic ones since they are producing nothing of value and wasting everyone's time. Cheers
I agree with your points! It's something I talk about on my channel...be YOU because YOU can only be YOURSELF. Having this attitude has helped me develop my business and publish my second book (last week!!🤗) I think it's important to be authentic...fakeness can only get you so far but in my opinion being fake isn't effective. I agree...respect the hustle and I would say respect the process 🥰 Hope you're doing well. Loving your lighting in your background. 💜
Hey my man Blake! You are the real deal! ❤️ you. I’m an introvert and what you see is what you get and some people aren’t able to handle it. But, that’s their issue, not mine. I’m not apologetic for having a very hard life which hardened me but I’m genuine. You’re spot on! I’m not comfortable in front of the camera yet but I’m working on it. Here’s a hug from me to you. You made my day, you really did. ❤️
Man... I am BINGING on your how to vids! I just started this YT quest on July 18,2019 and I am my AUTHENTIC self and i already got 60 + subscribers and over a 1000 views.. moral is people will DEFINITELY respect and sub to you when they can relate and like your STYLE! Once again Roberto,THANK YOU!
I truly believe in the fact that each person has something to offer to anyone else. It's important to stay true to yourself, and what you believe in! At the end of the day, if you don't believe in yourself, what is going to convince others to believe in you
That's a great point about trying to find acceptance outside your bubble. To some degree I feel this way at times. I always feel like I'm almost acting and being the funnest version of myself but it's not who I really am. Maybe I'm like that everywhere in life.

I love listening to your wisdom. I constantly visit your channel because as a small TH-camr, I find your content to be the most helpful and REALISTIC. Thank you for sharing your truths and for inspiring me to commit to working on my craft.
I like this one. I wish I've watched that video several years ago when I was so low I couldn't breathe without someone's appreciation. Now I'm too old too tired and too busy to seek for someone's approval. Thanks, Roberto 👍
As someone who is native to the tongue and I did very well in school, he's a great example of the English language. He's careful and accurate with his words and grammar.
respect for this video. its nice to know that bigger creators are thinking about the little guys, not just views and subs, but self esteem also. I've struggled with videos before, and this video has touched a few subjects that have caused me turbulence. much respect king
Thanks for all your guidance and expertise...and authenticity! I’ve been inspired to create my own channel to teach my almost five year old son the things he won’t learn in school. 💫
This speaks to my heart. So glad I found your videos! Show up as your authentic self and don't wait for anyone else's permission. I literally cried the day I realised just how much time I have wasted waiting for everything to be "right". It was a big fat excuse, nothing more. I didn't wanna show up in the world and be vulnerable cos I was afraid. The day everything changed was the day I felt the fear of showing up and did it anyway. I love what you do man, thank you and keep up the awesome content 💖
I started a natural hair channel for young adults with gray hair… To inform others on gray hair and the misconceptions of it… My biggest issue is actually recording the videos… But I agree with what you said I am making my content for a younger me!
Great advice, making content as you always say is so important because it naturally helps you get over that lack of confidence, which helps in being able to include more personality, in a genuine way. Such a balancing act as a newer creator.
what gets more views is that your being real and i can relate to what your saying. Its pretty cool that you left your old videos up and i agree that the first year is the growth year .I realized niche that theres stuff i don't know about and i should improve and if i were to be "famous " now people will obviosuly poke and make fun off me because i don't really understand fully what i am doing..haha ya get it! YOUR my favourite youtube advisor! When you be real and talk about the bullies i can relate to you so much and feel less alone💗
I think what's holding me back from growing faster are 1. Not always having great camera angles. Sometimes my head or my body almost entirely covers up what I'm doing. I know, as an art channel, my project should be dominant in the view, and 2. Hesitant or energy-lacking points in my voice-overs. I realize that these are inevitably going to come up as I'm recording and it comes down to being willing to re-record things.
Words from the heart enter the heart. That is one of my favorite teachings in my religion. I try to keep that in mind when I film. Thank you for this video. I can relate to wondering about how others judge me, and I am someone who has fairly high self-esteem in real life!
Roberto, I love your honesty my friend. You're probably one of the most authentic TH-camrs on the entire platform! You always inspire me! Also, everyone's early stuff when we look back is cringy lol. But it's important to remember where we came from! :)
Rock On your the inspiration that keeps me making my truth. just bring me is all I know and yet so many in my niche have so many ideas of how I should be doing it. I am happy with being me and just keeping it real
Honestly, what's holding me back right now is lack of knowledge. Still just sort of fumbling my way through editing while I try to learn more, as well as playing with various filming methods to see what works best. Bit of a learning curve, but it's obviously possible to learn!
Great advice! Recently, I've been verbalizing my process when climbing or doing other challenging things on film. I have been just sharing thoughts that go through my head. I've been pleasently surprised that people are interested. Some people have found it inspirational. I have found that my videos are doing better... longer view time, more views, etc. It is only a small change but those small changes are what drives me to continue to improve and create something bigger.
This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear right now so I thank you so much for sharing such valuable and insightful content. Look forward to seeing more of your work!
To be yourself is one of the hardest things anyone can do. In my most recent video I talk about the frustrations of people ordering my food for me at restaurants
*_I always like to add more energy when I'm doing my videos otherwise talking as if I was having a regular conversation would feel to lazy on camera_*

Authenticity requires vulnerability, which requires courage - you cultivate courage with experience
Spot on dude. Thanks for leaving the "old" stuff up so we can all be inspired.
Dude, I respect the fact that you are real so much! It’s awesome that you let people see the things that make you, yourself cringe, but you still leave it for others to see. I respect that people are the end for you not the means! Really, it’s not common, and it’s awesome! 🙂
This is such an important video - thank you!
Hi joe!!!
YOU ARE SOOOOOOO RAW!!!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!! THANK YOU for STRAIGHT TALK, " DON'T CRY IF YOU HAVEN'T MADE 100 VIDEOS" !!!! FACTS!!!
Great video! Thank you for sharing this information.
Last few weeks I've been watching alot of like how to TH-cam. And your one of the few that talks about and promotes personal growth first
You have completely changed the way I see things now and honestly, thank you soo much!
”Not everyone likes me, but not everyone matters”
I really liked this talk Roberto! But then again, I always love your talks!
Thank you for not just keeping it real with us all the time but showing it’s the STATS and FACTS. much respect - Josue
i needed this one man, thank you 🙏
Thanks for the longtime support
Thank you Roberto..
With regards from Uganda
It's easy to start but harder to be on camera and know what to say. You're right once you have confidence you make content comfortably. I wouldn't worry about subscribers or views I would work on confidence and self steam.
Fantastic video! Got to make more content to find your authentic self
I understand being the “weirdo” 💜 we nerds / geeks need to stick together 💪🏻
What hold me back is really preparing and idea making videos
Thanks!
Welcome!
This is the reason I subscribed to your channel because its helping a lot of people out there. Thank you
Hey my man Blake! ❤️
Great video. The honesty is refreshing most videos are all glitz and glam about being a TH-camr. Thank you Roberto!!
Spot on, growing confidence in yourself is head and shoulders about your audience. That's what I'm going to double down on, thanks Roberto!
Thank you sir! im learning english from you!
As someone who is native to the tongue and I did very well in school, he's a great example of the English language. He's careful and accurate with his words and grammar.
@@DENicholsAutoBravado Thank you DE,Im very eager now,i hope my family were born in an English country.
Yep! I keep coming back to your videos for your mental clarity, emotional maturity, and attitude! Does wonders. 👍🏻💯
respect for this video. its nice to know that bigger creators are thinking about the little guys, not just views and subs, but self esteem also. I've struggled with videos before, and this video has touched a few subjects that have caused me turbulence. much respect king
I think that family is actually holding me back. No cares about my dreams. I am on this Internet Marketer journey, alone.
Thanks for all your guidance and expertise...and authenticity! I’ve been inspired to create my own channel to teach my almost five year old son the things he won’t learn in school. 💫
I love that! School can only teach so much do fill in the gaps.
Important message for any creator at any stage in their journey
This speaks to my heart. So glad I found your videos! Show up as your authentic self and don't wait for anyone else's permission. I literally cried the day I realised just how much time I have wasted waiting for everything to be "right". It was a big fat excuse, nothing more. I didn't wanna show up in the world and be vulnerable cos I was afraid. The day everything changed was the day I felt the fear of showing up and did it anyway. I love what you do man, thank you and keep up the awesome content 💖
On Point Have The Equipment Just Can't Get Going
Thanks for making this video Roberto. Really needed this 👍
You give the best advice and you’re absolutely real. Thank you for all of this man!
Yes! Anything worth doing has hardship or pain attached to it. Love that. Needed to hear that too, thanks.
I respect you taking the time to speak about this topic. Self-development is an ongoing process. Keep up the good work.
Really inspiring, I have a hard time watching my own videos after I upload them, but I feel like I'm getting more comfortable the more I make.
Another video dropping at a time I needed to hear Roberto and his wisdom. Thanks!
