The song made famous by Carlos Nuñez, actually known in Brittany as "St Patrick's tune". In fact, "an dro" is a dance, not a tune. In Brittany we have many more tunes to accompany this popular traditional dance.
I am just discovering Elthin. Being part Irish and part Slovakian I am so amazed! Your notes I found so interesting. I play Celtic music, the Tin Whistle, and one tune I picked up at a session was a tune from Brittany - "The Wren" which I found to be such a lovely tune. My first "love" was Medieval & Renaissance Music and then Celtic. Whoever you are, you impress me with your knowledge and I thank you for educating me. Be well, and as I tell my friends, "Don't take any wooden nickels,!
Seems to me that a lot of Breton tunes are simply titled as the associated dance, irrespective of whether or not they have another more unique title. I play the Basque txistu, and many Basque tunes are similarly titled. It gets confusing sometimes.
@@marklammas2465 you are right, breton songs are often named after the associated dance!
@korwentenn3066 indeed, many titles of Breton music begin with the name of the dance performed to it. but often the name of the piece follows.
Thank you musicians of Elthin. This stirring performance proves how powerful this ancient music remains.
Thank you for your comment! Greetings from Czechia!
I love that song... When I was younger, I danced folkdances every morning and AnDro was a regular... not easy, the hand movements and the feet... but very energetic!
Yes, difficult, but so good for the brain!
As a Breton myself, I'd say its a great cover ! keep your amazing work !
Thank you very much! It means a lot for us.
Thank you very much 🤝🇷🇺 превосходно 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 3:57
Tiens!
These kinds of tunes rock hard. Would be cool to have a time machine and see how good the best local bands were.
This music is not from the middle ages, this is tune is a traditional dance from Brittany stilldanced in this northwestern region of France. ✋🏻😉
I love this driving tempo! Awesome combination of instruments, all played perfectly❤
Thank you Paul!
Nicely done, musicians of Elthin. I really appreciate listening to music rather than modern cacophony.
this makes me think you're not listening to a lot of modern music
Serdeczne pozdrowienia dla braci sławian z Polski !
Srdečně zdravím slovanské bratry z Polska !
Zdravíme do Polska! 🙂
Fantastico. Wonderful moving music from a rich heritage which brings light and sustinance to a grateful ear.
The most well known Breton An Dro (and variations here) - St Patricks An Dro. In Breton language an dro means to 'go around' literally probably a reference to the processional snaking dance performed to the music at Fez Noz.
Impresionante.
I presume "Fez Noz" means "Feast Of The Night"...
@@marklammas2465 you're right. "Fest" is for "feast". Both words come from French "fête" which used to be written "feste" in ancient times.
Fest-noz....!
It wasn't named after St Patrick originally as it is a snaking type circle dance!
I remembered that eluveitie also made their own version of it! But your version of this song is perfect!! congratulations guys!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A bouquet of thumbs up. Loved it. Thank you for dedication to ancient sounds.
this the last country I would have expected to play music from my home i love it
Our pleasure! We like music from Brittany a lot! 🙂

Bravo !
Celtic pride !!! Im very proud of my Celtic heritage 🇮🇪🏴🏴 no mater what celtic country you are from were all brothers an sisters 😊❤❤❤
Your celtic heritage come from czech
The irish are not celtic. Only in language. The population of Ireland is native to the island. How do you think any meaningful amount of celts would get to the island?
@@nigelryle2358 your czech heritage comes from russians 😁

I believe the Irish come from Spain. They were called the Milesians. But there were Viking and Saxon invasions. So really the Irish have a variety of phenotypes and origins like most peoples.
Keep them little fingers connected in the dance ♡
"Douce Dame Jolie" made me a fan. I recognize this song, too, though I never knew its name or who wrote it. You all are excellent musicians.
Thank you!
Beautiful! Keep up the good stuff! Greetings from Spain!
Thanks a lot!
Sounded just like how Fiona from Faun plays the tune, great cover!
Great playing - thank you for sharing! BTW I was especially intrigued by how well the bagpipe fits into this because I always have experienced those as very rough and overpowering; nothing that seemed to be combinable with strings.
Thank you!
We don't have those loudest bagpipes for the very reason you mention, so that the other instruments can be heard.
Love Faun - very nice rendition of this!
Thanks!
Spectacular cover, greetings from Spain
Thank you! Many greetings from Czechia! 🙂
¡BRAVO! 👏👏👏
That is an awesome arrangement! Subbed ❤❤
Id love to hear Czech folk songs. I didn't find a playlist of you guys playing these.
We focus on the music of the European Middle Ages including Czech medieval music.
Thank you for this and cheers from Brittany ! Trugarez vras ! Kenavo !

Very good music, dear author, thanks for your collaboration. It's similar to medieval Celtic on the church. I hope you like it. I'm delighted with everything you've done. Greetings from Spain, thanks.

Diolch o galon! Mae hyn yn swnio'n wych! / Thanks a million! This sounds fantastic! I know that 'an dro' is a Breton folk dance, but the way it's played here reminds my very much of medieval Welsh music. One of the instruments even looks like the tradirional Welsh 'crwth'!
May I ask the origin of the group's name? It look's, and sounds, Welsh. Could it be a variation of Elphin, the son of Gwyddno Garanhir, the king of the legendary drowned land of Cantre'r Gwaelod in the Irish Sea?
❤❤❤
No words!
Thank you!
It's wonderful!!!💙💛

Why does she have a look at the end like "What did I just do?" Plugging up the pipes, it's too late. It's already out.

Báječná skladba i provedení! Ale kde je harfa!? =D

This goes hard. Surely there's a metal cover of this folk song somewhere?

Is that pipe the binioù kozh? I've only heard them on recordings and have never seen one being played.
These are just medieval bagpipes.

Spain isn’t a Celtic nation and their blood isn’t more Celtic compared to any western country. Romantic propaganda of the 19th century is quite strong here.
Faun released the song on their 2013 album Von den Elben
In 2013 the German group Faun was in the top ten of the German charts

Yes. We started to play this version for fun and during parades. And many people were asking if we have a recording. We always said no, because Faun had and we thought it was pointless to record it. After many requests we started thinking that maybe we could do it. So here it is... 😀
