    10 tips:
    1. Choose a simple style with few seams
    2. Choose light to medium weight wovens like linen, chambray, cotton and wool. Avoid heavy fabrics as they won't drape well. If you are advanced, rayon, silk and satin are marvelous.
    3. Solid colors or super busy non directional prints are best
    4. Extend the fabric and cut single layer
    5. Use a rotary cutter and mat
    6. Stabilize specific areas with knit interfacing or woven interfacing cut the straight of grain
    7. Be delicate with handling the cut pieces
    8. Stay stitch the edges of the pattern pieces carefully without pulling and letting the fabric hang off the table
    9. Press seams open. No back and forth.
    10. Hang for a day before hemming
    My Specifics:
    * Size 14
    * Skirt length 59cm includes 2cm hem
    * Waistband is 3 inches by the length needed for the skirt circumference plus extra seam allowance. This will result in 1 1/4" waistband.
    *Pattern pieces cut in single layer with fabric extended
    *I put my cutting mat on the floor to cut the skirt pieces with my rotary cutter
    *Bias cut skirt

    Chevron stripes going upwards makes you look shorter.......when they point downwards it elongate your body and you look slimmer.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aesthetic preferences are a personal decision and it’s the one I made for this skirt. The stripes going down are on the side seams. I am as always not focused on body shaming in my language and terminology like “looking slimmer”. It’s not the way I talk or live my life.

    Clever. Thankyou for sharing. The lace top you showed with the chevron skirt. Do you have a video showing that particular top. I’ve got some lace fabric to use and I don’t want to mess it up.

      That’s a very old RTW top I thrifted. It’s not a pattern but I want to recreate it with one :)

    Karina, excellent tips for cutting/sewing on the bias and the skirt you made is gorgeous! I recently made a top using an ancient lightweight rayon blend "plaid" from my stash. Because of the difficulty of trying to figure out pattern matching, I placed the front on the bias and the rest on the straight grain. It took longer to cut out than to sew but was well worth the effort.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles

      I think bias cut is always worth the effort and not having to match is gold. This one was really fun. Thanks for watching 😊.

    Wow! Seeing the behind the scenes of this skirt made me love it even more!! I'm not sure I have enough patience for stripe matching but just incase I ever decide I want to try it, this video will be great help! Thanks for the mention as well! :-)

      I know bias skirts can be way easier without the stripe matching but I couldn’t get the chevrons out of my mind 😁. Thanks for watching 😊.

    Great tips...pretty skirt...lovely colors! In your intro your first garment is a pair of yellow cropped pants and a blue top. I have searched all your video tiles looking for the makes of those two items and cannot find them. Boy, there are a LOT of tiles to look at! :) Can you tell me what patterns they are....I really love that look. Thanks.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blue top is the Fringe top from Chalk and Notch and the yellow pants are thrifted RTW. I’ve looked for bottom weight yellow fabric for ages with the intent of making cropped pants and couldn’t find, so I couldn’t resist the thrifted ones :) Yes, there are hundreds of videos 😁

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles Now this is funny! Got your reply. looked up the video, had previously watched AND LIKED it! Just missed the tile when I looked through them. Guess I'll go watch it again because I think there's about to be a Chalk & Notch pattern in my future. :) Thanks so much, Karina.

    Karina how you inspire us! Thank you for all you share. I made a flannel shirt out of a plaid for my son this winter. Matching and layout took many many hours!

    You are so quick with all your projects. Wow! I am away from my machine for 3 months, but still collect inspiration from you. And I also collect fabric from my summer travel trips. So far I bought some fabric in Madrid and Barcelona. Let’s see if I can also find something in Prague and Florence. This will be a busy sewing winter!

    My gosh....this skirt is amazing! If this is easy sewing....I need to just quit now. Around the time you were showing the front that didn't match, my eyes rolled back in my head. VERY nicely done, indeed.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I knew they weren’t going to match in the front but I wanted them to match on the sides. The contrast blue fixes that. This was extra fun to cut and the sewing was actually only a few seams :)
