BigDWiz hey how would I go about sending you an amp to do a video on. it is a shark 4500 brown box. it is a beefy anp it like n $1300. even though it says 4500. it has a 6000 board inside of it. assume very curious to see the numbers. thank you for your time
Williston Audio Labs Hello Big D Subscribed I'm guessing this was a clean amp. My old 890 yamaha home stereo suppose to be like .03 THD. Is there any kind of distortion rating on all these car amps now days. I've got the wolf man 2400.1d coming this week. If u have a link or info on the THD of amps hollar back. I appreciate all the work u do. I've watched just under 50 car amp videos Thanks brother
Big D you really have to appreciate this amp because look at the small footprint and relatively small price plus the amount of power it puts out. When I started out I had little cash to put into car audio so I bought PYRAMID and you would get 2 feet of heat sink and 6 inches of amp for 1/2 weeks pay so don't rag on it just appreciate it for what it is.
Big D, love the channel. Very informative. Thank you 4 honest n factual info in the snake oil game of car audio. I'd just like to see the amperage draw during the tests more often. Wattage output vs amperage draw efficiency is important to the budget conscious, like me. Keep up the great work!
... okay, but for < $85 shipped?? whoa!! I know it missed max rating but that's a load of power for DIRT cheap! Blows me away for the price and footprint!
I bought a few of the 4 channels based on your review of it. It is perfect for powering mids and highs using the Pioneer network mode on the 80PRS or double din head units, and it fits anywhere. Perfect setup for having an active front stage on the cheap. I am not very impressed with the monoblock. Its not very good that it popped the fuse on a 2 ohm load. I would love to find a monoblock that is the same size, price, and just as impressive as the 4 channel.
I bought 2 of these based on his test too. One is bridged to my doors. And the other is running 4 ch 2ch to my mids. The other /ch's to my tweets They have been going strong since Dec of 2015.
+BigDWiz are you speaking of the micro-v series? I don't have any experience with NVX products, I honestly forgot those mini amps existed. Maybe sometime I will pick one up and see how it goes. 120 bucks, it is definitely worth a look, I just wish the 4 channel was a lower price, as it is 200. I believe it has an even smaller footprint than the kenwood, and the monoblock is conservatively rated at 200w @ 4 ohms and 300w @ 2 ohms. Sonic Electronix has an amp dyno, and they claim it can do 268 watts @ 4 ohms and 476 watts @ 2 ohms.
@@wal I got the Kenwood M3004 to drive two fronts and a Sundown 6.5 subwoofer. The Kenwood started clipping so I turned down the gain but it didn't sound accurate (like there is a mismatch on the front channel and the subwoofer). Bought the NVX and wow this sucker is strong. No clipping and very accurate.
Thanks for this. This amp fits well with a lot of budget setups. I find it hard to recommend something like Rockville to people because even if it makes the power, I have no idea how long it will last. Any chance you could test some of the chip amps next, like the tpa3116 or tda7498?
+lpbman3 dude, you must be reading my mind!! I bought several of those chip amps and working on the tests/videos now 👍...$10 TPA3116 100W mono subwoofer amp is up first
I mean, if you have the bug, you gotta look right? Too cheap to ignore. If you have good results, perhaps a quick walk through what it takes to run in a car. How to auto turn on, bucky converters, etc. Love the channel!
I used Kenwood back in the day after blowing a channel in my pioneer, I had a few. I think the number was kac 921,821,721. I latched on to all three over the years because they turned out to be good long lasting amps to run smaller stuff. If I'm not mistaken I had an 820.not positive on the numbers. I used a punch 150HD for subs. Owned a few punch amps over the years and sold them but kept the 150HD for many years. Good stuff
I saw another TH-cam channel do a dyno test of the Kenwood KAC-M3004 mini mono amp. And they said the amp wasn't stable. I guess it couldn't sustain the watts for longs periods of time and would drop. And they said this is typical of D mini mono amps. I don't know how these dyno tests are run. But have you tested this amp on the dyno for stability to see if it can maintain the watts? I had thought of getting a mini mono amp just so I only had to run speaker wires to the rear of the car. But the amp and a sub speaker is a lot of money to spend to find out it can't maintain it's watts. Thanks.
So I installed a cheap digital gauge with a shunt into my stereo. How accurate is it compared to this Dyno? It's fun to watch when the bass kicks up the watts, and it has amperage draw, voltage, and some other calculation of stored power similar to ah
It's on the ground side. Yeah it's just a general reference of total system load of the entire electrical system. It still gives a general idea as you can see the deck watts before I turn the amp on, and the watts go up when the sub hits. It'll go from about 30-40 watts up to 300-350 during hard hitting places in the song and it's very responsive. It's on a bicycle system I'm building so there's only the two items which makes it easy to see the watt jump. Kinda like a poor mans dyno IMO.
cool!! I just watched that part! I bet if video was titled strapped amp dyno it would get more veiws. I been looking for looking for strapped dyno forever
how many amps does this draw at 2 ohms certified? I have a KAC-6104D and it have the same size , same ratings and i don't think it has the true rms ... 21 A * 14.4V = 304 but only if the efficience is 100% i think it could be reach
What is the full model number of the 2 subs that you were showing at the end being powered by this little amp. I know it's Dayton audio. But which ones exactly? RSS210HO-4 8" subs? If yes. How do I wire them together to be ran off of 1 amp? Thanks.
Thanks a lot for the testing. I'm curious cause I see them both for $199. what one would you chose for a touring bike with 300 watt x2 Polk marine speakers?
Hey @BigDWiz are you sure you should have that jumper running between the two channels of the Amp Dyno? I know nothing of this device, so I'm not confident about this.... but doesn't that put two loads in parallel to the amp? Which would mean a further impedance reduction (i.e. when the amp says it's testing 4 ohms, the amp is actually seeing a 2 ohm load). No?
Is hour dyno working correctly? I noticed that it was showing 4 or 5 watts, then would spool up the wattage to the test levels... haven't seen an AD-1 do that on your's or anyone else's test videos.
The problem is, "Max Power" is not a defined term. Each manufacturer can determine this differently. The way I see it is, if an amp can't hit the claimed Max number using the Dynamic test on the Dyno, then they are using Vodoo math to determine this Max number
I have this powering a sundown 8 in a spare tire enclosure that houses both the amp and the sub tuned to about 32hz... It's enough to get the mirrors angry, in a convertible mustang.
nice video man. Not a bad little amp. I have a nvx mvpa1. Have you looked at those before? It appears to be smaller than that Kenwood from what I can tell.
Planning to buy this to power R.Fosgate R1 sealed 12" 4ohm 200w rms, do you think this amp would suffice even though it pass 200w+ on the dyno? Or should i get like the Pioneer monoblock which generates more power just for longevity sake? Thank you for your opinion and keep up the good job. Throughly enjoyed your dyno run test 😊
BigDWiz I have the opportunity to get a kenwood kac-9106d (rms 500w @4ohm) for the same price as the RF500.1. Do you think it's overkill and would it kill my alternator/battery being such a big current draw? Which one would you choose in this scenario? Thank you.
Hey BigD, Can you test the validity of this videos claims with your setup? I want to know if this actually works or not. Video is called "HOW TO SET YOUR GAIN FOR UNDER $10 WITH PIEZO BUZZER by Isosecsi"
Thanks for doing these dyno runs, cause you can't trust most manufacturer claims these days. Just checking the fuse, 30 amp, it should only hit 600 watts if it has 20 volts, and no energy is lost to heat, right? I know that's just the quick and dirty rule not accounting for heat loss or resistance, but if the fuse works that'd be the limit right?
I had high hopes based on the performance of the 4ch version. That said, this amp can be found for dirt cheap on places like Amazon. Last time I checked it was like $85
$83.95 plus free shipping with PRIME as of a few minutes ago. I'm not disappointed, as it still puts out a lot of bang for the buck. I may have to put it on my list for a budget build down the road. Again, thanks for the product reviews/dynos. They've helped steer a lot of people past the BS that is written on boxes, and the Old School reviews of 90's equipment take me back to highschool days when watts costs $$ but subs were crazy efficient.
BigD. May I try to pick your brain? Back in late 80's early 90's there was and amp that resembled the earthquake "rounded heat sink" at width edge. They used Tiffany rca's. But they used a slab of jade on them do not recall if the jade was on top or bottom. My question do you remember those amps. I cannot remember the name, that's my main question. Also just a suggestion maybe dig up an old fultron MX series amp😀. I actually switch from rf to fultron in 94. Thank you for the great vids! Glad to see them!
Bob, I can't fully grasp your description. The late 80's and early 90's was a boom for car audio manufacturers. There were literally 50 or 60 different amplifier brands. I guess everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Well, I'm slightly disappointed in the dyno numbers - but that's only very slight. I figure it's not 100% optimized for 2 ohm loads (though it's highly likely that will be how most setups will have it configured). But in terms of SPL, 290W vs 300W isn't going to be significant - it's barely 3% difference between actual and rated. Assuming a 2 ohm sub with 96db sensitivity @ 1W1M in an open environment, 290W vs 300W mathematically works out to only be be aprox .1db different. So no, I don't think many people would really notice that (esp since it sounds good). As for max rating, can't say I'm surprised it didn't hit 600W. I am surprised it popped the fuse during the 2 ohm uncertified run however - the power side of the amp might be just a touch too small and it's working a little too hard to keep up to the amp stage. But then again, the fuse may simply be undersized. Fortunately music is more dynamic then a steady state tone. All in all, that's still an impressive amp with an impressive amount of power esp given it's super tiny size - so yes, I am still very much impressed with it overall. Not perfect, but still Kenwood for the win!
Hey thanks for the video. I am curious however; How in the world did this amp draw enough current to pop a 30amp fuse? My calculations show a max draw of about 25 amps rounding up. If it draws 31amps, that comes out to 435 watts. We have high current draw and a missing 100 watts from the output. Help me out here, am i forgetting something in my calculations? can someone else run the numbers to check me? Thanks all - this is not a roast or anything like that, I like this channel.
I've always been skeptical on Kenwood products other than excelon series.....idk t but clearly they prove me wrong & for mids n HIGHS or bass I won't ever but their speaker's but their amplifier's are in my book very well made & sound good for the $ they ask- speaker's meh that's my opinion though
+firebirdude2 I'm getting an "800w RMS" mini amp by Massive Audio soon to test. They are discontinued and only $120. Will be a superb deal if it does rated
Kenwood always falsely advertises their amps. They need to stick to their head units(which are top notch). Their speakers, subs, and amps are garbage though.
Not true...the 4ch version KAC-M3004 performed above expectations in all tests. This mono version did more than rated up to clipping and may have been rated based on tests at 100Hz, which many manufacturers use for subwoofer amp tests (not sure why as 100Hz is NOT subwoofer frequency)
BigDWiz, it's the misrepresentation on the box. 600 watts max power. But as stated on the rated stats on the mono amp, clear misrepresentation. Lying is a part of their marketing strategy. This amp will not come close to that max power. I do know the stats are on the box as well. But like I said. Marketing strategy.
Kenwood isnt the only one doing it. It is industry wide, especially with budget amps. In my experience, people buy budget amps based on their price, not by the numbers on the box, so at a lower price point, the "rated" numbers mean nothing. There are some price to performance gems out there, like the 4 channel version of this amp.
I would feel alot different about it if it was back in the 80s or early 90s and companies were doing this. Anyone with google can figure out that the claims are bullshit in about 5 seconds. I think that for the most part (with a few exceptions) they could be honest on the box and sell just as many amps.
You can help support my channel by purchasing this amp on Amazon - amzn.to/2rofNL6 . Thanks for your support!
BigDWiz hey how would I go about sending you an amp to do a video on. it is a shark 4500 brown box. it is a beefy anp it like n $1300. even though it says 4500. it has a 6000 board inside of it. assume very curious to see the numbers. thank you for your time

Off topic comment.. Have you done a 5 channel Amp series of videos? Looking to upgrade and would love your input if possible.

These new micro amps are so cool the pioneer class d 4 channel gm d1004 looks good i think i might get one for my daily
I just purchased this amp. Going to get it thumpin 1 12" in a ported box tomorrow.
I know someone with this amp on 2-12's and it actually sounded pretty darn good for a mini amp.
+Jon Doe I was impressed with it on my test subs @2 ohms
i think it would be awsome to see some amp guts side by side with similarly rated amps in depth showing what brand internals are there
Ahhhhhh man...after seeing the 4 channel banging out as much power as it did, I had really high hopes for this amp.

When in the “mono” mode, it parallels the channels and assumes the channels are connected together
nice good job i wish you could test the older Kenwood excelon kac-x812d I have one and love it
not alot of people like Kenwood but I like them
Is hour dyno working correctly? I noticed that it was showing 4 or 5 watts, then would spool up the wattage to the test levels... haven't seen an AD-1 do that on your's or anyone else's test videos.
+Chuey 72 yes, the amp May have clipped or hit 1% THD early, then cleaned up as the power increased
That's why I go off of rms power ratings, which they did more than rated power.
I was wondering if you have ever done a test on the old school kenwood amps from 80s like KAC 1020 or 920?
+Brian Patterson I have not yet. I'm hoping to continue to test amps for the next 40-50 years, so I should be able to get to it eventually 😬
BigDWiz can you test an old us 2000x or 2000. I'm curious to see what you get them to do.
I was wondering is the dynamic rms the same as max power or could u explain it in a video me n my friends always talking about this
The problem is, "Max Power" is not a defined term. Each manufacturer can determine this differently. The way I see it is, if an amp can't hit the claimed Max number using the Dynamic test on the Dyno, then they are using Vodoo math to determine this Max number

Thanks for the video.
+Brian Miles thanks for watching and commenting
Ain't the passive radiator supposed to be flexing but I love this video just so you all know not hatin
This passive radiator is not exactly matched to the subs and requires more air for it to move...
I cant find the kac-314 no where on youtube do it do 600watts
I can’t test all models of all brands, sorry
DO a video showing inside the mini amp. i'd like to see hehe

nice video man. Not a bad little amp. I have a nvx mvpa1. Have you looked at those before? It appears to be smaller than that Kenwood from what I can tell.
I've seen those and I think SonicElectronix tested one on their Dyno and it did well

I would get this amp if space is at a premium, otherwise, I’d go with something a little bigger such as the RF Prime 250.1 or 500.1
BigDWiz I'll go the RF500 route as recommended because i don't have issue with space. Thanks for the instant reply.
BigDWiz I have the opportunity to get a kenwood kac-9106d (rms 500w @4ohm) for the same price as the RF500.1. Do you think it's overkill and would it kill my alternator/battery being such a big current draw? Which one would you choose in this scenario? Thank you.

You should dyno the new Excelon line. X801 or x501. They are tiny and have high power label claims.
I have the X801 and going to compare vs Pioneer 9605
BigDWiz Awesome. I have the x801 and always wonder if it makes its power for $350. Really looking forward to it!
Do you sell the amps that you test?
+Street cars of memphis Inc sometimes, just depends. Amps like this, no, they are so inexpensive, it's not worth the hassle
BigDWiz thank you sr. Keep the videos coming. Me likey a lot.
How much current(amps) did it draw?
I don’t believe I captured current consumption during the test
How can you not have a million fuses laying around?
+Godzookie I know, right? These are the special pico fuses only used in the small amps and radios. Needs to stock up on them I guess

It really kicked my test subs good and had me smiling. That's worth the cost of the amp right there to me
Kenwood stereos were the shiznit in the early 2000's. Their amps were good too, I'm not sure powerewise, but they could really take a beating,.
+Joseph Stalin oh yeah, home Audio was good too
l love your videos man I need u to do some Brazilian amps test
+Trini Things working on it. They can be difficult to measure on the Dyno. May get one to try soon
Nice thanks
Kenwood? I thought they died on us a long time ago(2004).
Did they just didn't let us know? I loved their speakers and HUs
+Matt Merritt fuses can handle much more than rated current for short bursts (2-3x).
new subscriber great vid would love to see you dyno soundstream pn4.1000d amp its a sleeper #!!
+david curtis thanks! I'm always getting different amps in to test, I like to keep you guys guessing 🤷♂️
Max allowable volts 16!! Rerun these with 29.9 amps at 15.9v
😱
@@wal that's 475.41 watts
Where's the guts!!! Did Kenwood say not to open??
+mattimus ?? I prob just forgot. Nobody tells me not to open amps, I buy them myself 😲
I thought those dynos tested for Rms.
it does, but I ran at 1 ohm in attempt to get the most power out of the amp dynamically. The 4ch version beat it's max rating in the dynamic tests
That passive radiator is not moving... ahah
+GeekTek it is a Definitive Tech passive and really needs beefier subs to get it moving
Test DD z1
300 watts is 30 amps right......
+John Work approx, but in order to blow a 30A fuse, this amp must have pulled over 30A for a few seconds. I'll verify in a future video
Kicker PXA500.1
+firebirdude2 I'm getting an "800w RMS" mini amp by Massive Audio soon to test. They are discontinued and only $120. Will be a superb deal if it does rated
GUT shot!
+Vasegan Naidoo I thought about that after I uploaded the video. My bad!! I'll do a gut shot in a future vid and show the current pulls too
Test some cadence amps
JC power m10001d mini
I don’t see this one available in the US
Kenwood always falsely advertises their amps.
Mikey, I agree. There are companies that attract the suckers with the "max power" rating.
I would feel alot different about it if it was back in the 80s or early 90s and companies were doing this. Anyone with google can figure out that the claims are bullshit in about 5 seconds. I think that for the most part (with a few exceptions) they could be honest on the box and sell just as many amps.
pioneer > kenwood
1trucavalier pioneer is Kenwood?
1trucavalier i thought jvc madecthe wood
no i was saying pioneer 9601 dwiz dynoed did its rating over kenwood that did not.
Kenwood new stuff always suck
