Rick Hotton is so badass! His skill is beyond the movements. There is an energy in his movements that most blackbelts never even master

    Goldmine.
Applying Mr. Hotton’s principles has revolutionized my Praying Mantis and Bagua kung fu. May he live for 1000 years.

Bagua practitioner here too. I agree. His understanding of internal mechanics has made my performance better as well.

All that connection and looseness is very Tai Chi Chaun. Not your rigid karate.

Do you train with isometrics? I find this improves the mind muscle / body connection too. Bruce-Lee's platform chain, spring and handle is great for this!

    • @Tner0lf
      @Tner0lf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@christophercurtis2893 at high level of mastery the karate can be a lot about complete iner relaxation and loosen all the muscle and tendons.
Not all the master generate power that way. My sensei use that approach as well to generate power. The other advantage is speed.

I've never seen such an understanding of internal mechanics from a Karate instructor. Truly, if you are studying with Mr. Hotton, you're getting the good stuff.

Sensei Hotton Thanks to your student for convincing you to share yourself with the world. For those of us that are committed to the karate arts that want to explore every aspect of their personal growth you are a blessing. I am fortunate to have a great teacher that has propelled my karate, when he would explain the softness of movement for speed I couldn't wrap my head around it, when I watched one of you videos where you explained how you would get your arm out if you didn't have use of it, the light bulb went on! You have a great gift not only to show but explain movement and how it is created for efficiency, speed and power. I started this journey late in life because I let life get in the way, even though I was late to the party I am enjoying every minute of it! Having access to teachers like yourself that are excellent at explaining certain aspects has helped propel me in my own journey to help break through barriers in my practice. Thank you for sharing yourself with the world, introverts by the way are usually the best teachers.

I never realized until I saw this video that I was doing the upper double forearm block with arms only, and not using my body for power behind it. It was definitely a light bulb moment for me. Thank you!

I don’t do karate. I do equestrian, swiming, yoga and zumba but these tutorials are so so educating. Wish I could have a week of training with this man.
Don’t get me wrong but watching him is like a physioterapists wet dream! Would be out of work if everyone had his knowledge and bodycontrol 😊❤️

I’m always amazed at sensei Hotton’s mastery of the body. He has the absolute best hip control bar none. Also his explanations are very instinctive and easy to follow.
Thank you for all you do! I really wish life would allow me to drop everything and become a dedicated disciple to this fantastic man.

It's true that Hotton Sensei's teaching is exceptional. However what I really enjoyed was watching the attendees immersing themselves in the practice. None of this standing around with hands on hips enjoying the show stuff. These guys were right into it.

What he said about age-uki - it should feel like a punch. This makes it stronger, more effective and less likely to break an arm or cause a bad bruise. Great instructor. I love Sensei Hotton's teaching techniques.

Usually, though perhaps not always, the last two age-ukes in heian nidan are taught as attacks rather than blocks. A low stance, the strike from below.

Awesome Teacher and Technician of Karate - Do ....and Wanting to share his knowledge....unlike some Top Japanese Instructors who take courses in different Countries teaching the same old drills and maybe if you are lucky a Kata... with the same old Crap and receiving a Big Cheque.
Comments based on experience, especially training in Japan in the 70's.

sensei Rick , may I sugest to you the following concept ?
when coming back from the mountain punch ( the U shape one at the near end) don't bring your leg back but Instead bring both knees together with equal force. This will be using the Adductor brevis , longest and Adductor Magnus muscles Bi laterally ( both knees) using these muscles 1) makes the.movement stronger 2) makes the movement quicker) makes the movement easier) maintains equallibrium of weight distribution and posture .please experiment with my idea ( its not my idea my sensi Mr. Mori R.I.P taught it to me 40 years ago ) looking forward to you future responce.
