When I was younger I did karate for 8 years and until this year I did Akido for over 10 years. It is beautiful to see the fusion of the two, so that what has become lost in each is now replaced with a more complete and useful.

I was taught the "heavy but relaxed" approach as "weight underside"

although I might not agree with everything sensei Hotton does, he is good teacher who has a strong love of his art, and I enjoy how he communicates techniques and body movement

Thank you Sensei. The info on KS is useful to keep in mind. I like the practical approach rather than the flowery one also.

Technique and timing are without flaw. The problem (in my opinion) is that Sensei Hotton KNOWS what attack is coming, and has a rehearsed response. Looks super impressive.
But in real self defense, unless you're VERY confident that you can read your adversarie's attack, these kinds of demonstrations don't have much value.
Please don't misunderstand - Sensei Hotton is highly skilled! But when you know what your opponent is going to do, it's easier to plan and execute a defense and counter.

THIS is karate, not that degenerated WKF dancing.
