Hi Eric, great video. Just purchased a Bachmann 66 Evening Star, so food for thought. Like the idea of changing the lights. Only put a Bachmann DCC chip in to get it running and looking to add sound also. Will refer back to this whenI do! I will also stick to Bachmann after the comments I've seen reading the Hattons models!
Hi Eric, really good video. I'm a great fan of illuminated models and have all my 66s fitted with the their PCB boards. Don't have the software to do any changes, so mine are just soldered for daytime runnings but thats OK. Now my Bachmanns have the right lights I happily run them along side my Hattons. All the best Peter
Thanks for the comment Peter and glad you enjoyed the vid! The PCBs really are a great addition to these models eh. I have also gone and upgraded other models such as a 57, 59 ect with full lighting and all independent and it really does just help with that added level of realism! Fair play, yeah not everyone obviously has the needed equipment to do what ive done which is fair enough, im sure its still a big improvement though!
@@UndergroundEric Oh yes a great improvement also made changes to the older 66 where they now have the new lights fitted so I run them with all four lights on and lost the "tampo" printed white marker light Cheers Peter
Great work Eric. Great to see how it's all wired up independently. Will deffinatly have to get the upgraded lights for my evening star 66. Funny you mention the hattons 66 I've just received a db 66 and it needs a decoder fitting a job I'm not looking forward to🤦🏻♂️ but I do like the lighting features.
Nice work fella, saw this beastie today at Clithero (got the video in my channel) Thought the loco was SO beautiful that I've actually just gone online and purchased one that's sound fitted - won't have the bell sound and it's not got the bell on the front so I'll need to go get some but. Other than that!😁 Not sure if it's worth the reblow for the £49 it'll cost... But the lighting might be worth a look 😎
Hi I’ve bought both Bachmann and hattons 66 locomotives but I do have to say I do like my bachmann better had no problems with it yet but my Hattons well it’s not been the best but I wouldn’t buy a hattons again unless it was sorted but I wished I waited and seeing what everyone else said great model though Cheers Paul
Hi Eric - All the effort you put in has paid off as it looks and sounds great and well explained too for those brave enough to follow your lead. All the best for 2021 and Stay Safe..................Cheers Kev
Beautiful model, but I’m not really into diesel locomotives because I have Asthma. This is started by the inhalation of diesel particulates from both road and rail transport.
Fabulous video Eric , I have a couple Bachmann 66 dating back to around 2010 with a day/night switch but the rear lights remain on but I have 2 slightly later versions with the larger headlight which you can actually turn the rear red lights off. I'm running them on AC at the moment until I get my new DCC controller on order from hattons .I assume Bachmann may have modified this going back 13 years ago. The 2010 version switch says night and day whilst the 2012 version says off and on . Many thanks
It’s not an electronic bell sound effect on the real thing. Have a look behind the valance at number 1 cab end. There’s a big mechanical rotary bell hidden down there. You can even see it going round. I’d love to do this to my model of 779. I passed out on this loco, so it’s pretty special to me.
I kinda had it with the e-bell in the sound file lol. I think Biffo had his heart in the right place for American modelers installing into into GP59s, F59PH/Is, and SD33ECOs
Hi Eric.. Great video.. You say you use a EUS LokSound V5 21 pin decoder.. But which decoder??? The 21-pin MTC (Normal) P/N 58419 or the 21 pin MKL (Hattons) P/N 58449.. Please help..
Excellent as usual .....well done !!
Awesome. I can never afford my own. So grateful to be able to see other layouts and locos.

The bachmann one is just a solid performer i think, in comparison!
Interesting video...Good result and bit of a struggle but that's life eh??
Nice to see the models stretching their legs...seen the real one a couple of times here in Newport. Nice one..all the best.
For sure mate! Really nice to give it a good run! It performed great :-)

Sounds quite bad, best not go outside really with sharp edges , diesel fumes and covid things are really bad atm!

Can you share the function mapping for this class 66
Hi Again Eric... Could you share your Decoder mapping???
Hi Eric.. Great video.. You say you use a EUS LokSound V5 21 pin decoder.. But which decoder??? The 21-pin MTC (Normal) P/N 58419 or the 21 pin MKL (Hattons) P/N 58449.. Please help..
Normal one mate but you can use the solder tabs at the end of the decoder for full power outputs instead of logic level
@@UndergroundEric Thank you...
I've got the ESU 50344 speakers from ESU and they are 1 watt.. Not the 0.5 watt EM1 speaker
What? A bloody bell?!! This one surely hasn’t been to America yet!! This is a British locomotive rather than a Yankee!!
The loco literally came from america, as did all 66s. It was the last one ever built so has the bell as a tribute to the builders.
cool video..dont let ollie..get hold of it lol
Oh by the way, I drove this last summer, WOW!
