Bangladesh student protests: UN demands investigation of government crackdown

- A limited curfew is still in place in Bangladesh after days of protests and a police crackdown.
Some businesses and government offices are reopening, and partial internet service is being restored in some areas but access to social media is still banned.
Police have arrested more than 2,000 people.
The protest movement is now calling on a number of Government ministers to stand down.
The United Nations has demanded an investigation of the Bangladeshi Government's crackdown on student protests.
Al Jazeera’s Tanvir Chowdhury reports from Dhaka.
Irene Khan is the UN Special Rapporteur on the Freedom of Opinion and Expression.

I'm a student of Dhaka University, Bangladesh . Nothing to say actually. We, the students, protest to stop the discrimination in our country. But the government polices are firing and slaughtering us indiscriminately. The number of martyred students is uncounted. Our first martyred student is Abu Sayed who was murdered brutally in a public road by police without any reason and Abu Sayed was unarmed. The scene of this brutal murder is still on Facebook. But unfortunately the government closed down Facebook so that we don’t get the full image of the cruelty imposed on the students. We got the internet after 6 days but it is still very slow. Moreover, We don’t have access to Facebook.

She's a brutal but a competent dictator. She improved the economy of Bangladesh, took back the British money by remittance and investment, and demolished the religious fundamentalism in the country. Without her Bangladesh would've been like Pakistan and Afghanistan.
I rather have a brutal but competent dictator like Sheikh Hasina ruling our country than pseudo democrat politicians we usually see in Muslim countries.

The 2nd started with the reply to the PM's speech, who indirectly named the protesters "rajakar". Bangladeshi students became so upset that, they couldn't bear the nickname given by the PM. Caders of Bangladesh students league started beating the protester students along with police force... All the students of Bangladesh left from Bangladesh students league due to that kind of immoral act of bsl.
3rd episode started with collision between general students and police... A lot of students died due to gunshot injuries by police... Local people joined with general students to protect them from police gunshots... As a result, lots of general people died from gunshot injuries... Students started protest and in no point was the police helpful. When the PM made a heinous remark about the protestors then the protest spread nationwide , to suppress which the government started using arms. My classmate got arrested for no reason. He was missing and then we got to know he was arrested and sent to court. 4 cases were filed against him. I am a student of holy cross college. What I am talking about here is what happened around me. Helicopters are shooting like monsters killing my brothers. Not only that, the common people are also being shot and killed, even a 7-year-old child is also a victim of these bullets. They want to suppress the people by carrying out destruction like this. My brothers who protested against the quota movement are being killed and disappeared. Acid was thrown on the face of one of my junior classmate when the girls from our college came out in protest 😭. And now they are not accepting the 8 point demands of the students but they are taking whoever they can find and disappearing. The High Court judgment is only showing an opening to the outside world, but these monsters are doing demonic torture in our faces. We continued our movement peacefully, but 16 july the government party's student League attacked our students without any reason after that the police, BGB and RAB fired to the protesters. Consequently, the movement became the national burning issue. All the general people began to stay beside us. To stop the movement, they compelled us to leave the residential hall of many Universities in Bangladesh. After that the private Universities students came down the road to protests Against the fascist. The shouted to the general and unarmed students more than 2 hundreds of our brothers were killed.

I totally agree with Geneva's statement. Nobody believes in our government. She (our prime minister) did the same thing in 2013, 2018, 2021, and now. Our cynical prime minister told us "RAJAKAR," but we wanted our rights. Why did she tell us RAJAKAR? Bangladesh is the only country where a 56% quota is available in the 1st and 2nd grade job sectors. She always used to publish the same kind of statement every time. People are shot dead in open daylight. Where's the news media now? Approximately 300 students were shot dead in Bangladesh. I am also a student from Bangladesh. My junior was shot dead in front of my own eyes. All I could do is to shed tears. How can I live bearing the guilt that I could have prevented him from going to the protest, but I didn't. We were cut off from the internet, we were disconnected from the whole world. And after the blackout we heard the news of a mass murder. News of death after death. Is this a sin to be born in this country? Where is the UN? Why don't they investigate this mass murder? Is this our sin to be born in this country? I live in dhaka . Our country's situation is very devastating. The government is corrupted to the core and murderous.
We couldn't even participate in elections out of fear of death. Current government forcefully sitting on the throne and drying up our country's economy.
Last week we heard guns and tearshell' sound , continuously thrown from helicopters by police. Last Friday 10 / 12 police came to the road in front of my house and started firing ( in the air) ! There were no protesters. Only local peoples , children's as usual. Yet they spread fear and left.
In this student vs police + politicians clash police murdered innocent students, Innocent children and civilians also killed by the police. The number of dead may exceed 1000.
Most of the people of Bangladesh with right consciousness supports the students . The students are innocent and correct on their demands.

How can the 3rd party is responsible where in election, there was no opposition party. The 3rd party they are mentioning is basically there own young gang named "CHHATRALIGUE". Basically these people ganged up against the Students according to the command of Government. Also they had deadly weapons with them. None of these people were arrested but the unarmed students who spoke up for their own rights and had no intention to create any violence were arrested.
In this mordern era, the people of Bangladesh were disconnected with the entire world. This shows how dominated the government has been throughout.
