Gatekeepers give you all the bad stuff . " Distraction to the Band" it's what took the Musicians to Toyko Dome 55.000 audience 2 shows over 2 nights no 2 songs repeated that's 110.000 fans and without "the Distraction " they would never have experienced that . Try Road of Resistance live in Japan before you make judgement 🤘🦊🤘 or just stick to the same old stuff thats being churned out for years . Ps i am a Metal Head from the 70s . Seen Iron Maiden 4 times AC DA and many other bands seen BabyMetal live twice and never experienced anything like it best time ever .

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. This is a song that really emphasises the different sides of what they do and what they are all about, so you get the extremes of the brutal metal instrumentation from the Kami Band mixed together with the child-like and playful vocal style of J-Pop.
They have about 50 songs now and every one of them is different, so the mix of styles, the fusion that they are, will still be there but is a lot less noticeable in most of their other songs.
Some songs are good, straight hard metal, other lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but they will mix in many other musical styles and genres with the metal - you may not like one song, no matter try another and the chances are you will love it, but they will never bore you. Personally I love all their songs (well, there may be just one or two I like but don't love).
They are a fusion of styles, they pretty much invented their own sub-genre (Kawaii-Metal or cute metal) and as such they are unique and, for me, the most entertaining thing I have seen or heard in the last 5 decades.
Ignore all the nonsense and "bad things" you may have heard about them, it is all based on misinformation and is touted round by people with tiny minds who think all bands should fit neatly into a tiny box of expectations, all doing the same sort of thing, following the same old tired, stale format.
I think you were referring to HalfLifeSistah - and yes she has cried her eyes out and sobbed to a couple of Babymetal songs. Interestingly her first reaction was to 'Catch Me If You Can' and she didn't cry - she didn't understand what was happening and she didn't like it at all (it didn't help that they watched a bad compilation video, not the full live performance you saw). They took that reaction down ... it turns out they went in with preconceptions based on the misinformation and lies they'd heard from the metal gatekeepers and, when they did their own research afterwards, they were hugely embarrassed they had got everything so wrong and had completely misunderstood what and who they were watching.
BABYMETAL are the three girls - Su-metal (lead vocals, the whole concept was formed around her), Yuimetal and Moametal (backing vocals, dance and in charge of hyping and leading the crowd).
They started small in 2010 as a sub-unit of a J-Pop Idol group, singing and dancing to a backing track and, when they started doing their own shows, they had guys in skeleton suits pretending to play the instruments.
Eventually they separated from the Idol group to become an independent band in their own right and a little more budget was made available. The Kami Band (all males) was formed to support them in live shows. At first they only played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some early shows from late 2012. Early in 2014 (at the shows this video was recorded in fact) they became the full time support for BABYMETAL in all live shows and appearances and have been with them ever since.
The Kami Band are some of the very best Japanese session musicians. They all have their own bands and projects but even they say they would have never played all around the world and at the big arenas BABYMETAL have taken them to.
Sadly Yuimetal left the band in October 2018 for undisclosed health reasons - her last performance was 12 months before in October 2017. Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo and from 2019 through 2021 they were supported by three girls (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot.
Please react to more BABYMETAL - ideally more live performances - they are one of the very best live acts on the planet and have international awards to show that is not just my opinion. You never know, they may just make both of you cry some time.

My biggest reservation about this track as an intro to BABYMETAL, is that the song is pretty far along before you even hear the lead vocalist.
And it doesn't really show off her voice.
I would have started you off with either 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' or 'Karate'.
BABYMETAL was built around Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or "Su").
Their producer Koba became aware of her in 2009 when she was a member of the JPop trio Karen Girl's.
At 11, she was the youngest member of that group.
BABYMETAL was started in 2010, when she was 12 years old.
Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) were 11.
They originally performed at concerts with just a backing track.
Eventually they were allowed to hire a live supporting band.
These backing musicians are known as the Kami Band.
Since 2012, there have been around 25 different members of the Kami Band, although some have performed at a lot more shows than others.
In 2019, they toured with two sets of Kami Band musicians.
The "Kamis From the West" are all Americans, and the "Kamis From the East" are all from Japan.
They even had all eight musicians on stage for the encore songs at the two January 2020 'LEGEND - METAL GALAXY' concerts in Japan.

Yeah the concept is the fusion of Japanese Idol music and Metal. It was invented by Koba their producer. He saw Suzuka Nakamoto performing live with 'Karen Girls' and had the inspiration for Babymetal with her as lead singer. Karen Girls 'Over the Future' live from 2008 th-cam.com/video/CvfukHRpyXw/w-d-xo.html
In the beginning it was just the girls. They started as a subunit of the Japanese Idol group 'Sakura Gakuin' in late 2010. In early 2013 they became officially independent and added the Kami Band to back them in live performances. According to Kami Band members they volunteered. Whoever is backing Babymetal is automatically the Kami Band but there is a recognizable core group who has done most of the concerts.

Nice! That was not as bad as I expected :) Thanks!
Yes BABYMETAL is the fusion between the kawaii (cute) and metal, originating a new genre (kawaii metal), so very spot on.
BABYMETAL are the girls: Suzuka Nakamoto (SU-METAL) as the lead singer, Yui Mizuno (YUIMETAL) and Moa Kikuchi (MOAMETAL) providing backing vocals and dancing.
The whole concept was formed around Nakamoto's powerful vocals and her ability to perform live no holding back.
Their backing band is called Kami Band and it's formed by session musicians. The best of the best you can find in Japan. All of them have their own projects.
They originated in 2010 (being 12 and 11 years old at the time) as a sub-unit of a pop idol group called Sakura Gakuin. They are currently 24 and 22yo.
They added the Kami Band progressively since 2012 and fully established since 2014, when they did their first world tour.
BABYMETAL opened four dates for Guns n' Roses in 2017 in Japan. They also collaborated with Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor (and Yoshiki from X-Japan) on the last year's "Kohaku" on Japanese public TV NHK.
And, by the way, HalfLifeSistah actually cried to BABYMETAL :)
Okay, I believe this one blends way better "both worlds": "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014): th-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/w-d-xo.html
    Until next time!

well i dont know what u mean by 'serious' but BABYMETAL has been around for more than 10 years, they were acknoledge by many metal bands and they even made a song with Sabaton lead singer Joakim Brodén (touching ur Swedish side lol)
all their songs r unique while initially they merged jpop and metal (a weird combo i know but for some ppl it sounds interestingly good)
they tried to fuse more genres of music and metal, some songs r more on the metal side and some r less...
The genre is called Kawaii metal which is cute metal, and it tries to mix the japanese mainstream music with metal in order to expand the awarness of metal music to the ppl in japan, needless to say this genre has gained a huge amount of popularity outside japan as the 3rd album of BABYMETAL hit 1# top rock albums of billaboard after its release (the first ever asian band to do that if im not mistaken)
i agree its not for everyone, some ppl look for certain emotions while listening to metal music, usually those emotions r not the type babymetal songs gives u, so some ppl dont connect to it. i saw many old metal fans that saw in babymetal something new and fresh cuz they felt modern metal music is either on repeat or going to extreme versions of itself. honestly havent listned to it since highschool so cant really tell but those were their thoughts of it.

  • @autohmae
    @autohmae 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

It would have kind of been boring if it was just the musicians (their are so very many other bands already), if you watch some more Babymetal things will start to make more sense. And strange enough you'll probably even find something you'll like.
Yes, 'make sistah cry' (I think her channel had a different name before ?) did cry to Babymetal, but the song was a more serious song: Rondo Of Nightmare at Budokan Black Night, it also has an intro like the song you just reacted to. The reason for the intro is: these girls running around and dancing on stage needed a few breaks in the show !
The 'sistah' is for real, but she has a 'medical condition'. She is wired differently than most people. it's not completely uncommon for people to have their sensations crossed. Like some people associate a certain color with a smell, etc. Think of it this way: instead of getting goosebumps listening to good music she cries. And she is also very sensitive to it. It's a bit of like going to see a 'freak show' in a way. In the past freak shows existed with the smallest adult or the hairiest woman, girl with 3 legs, etc. Some were scams, but some were real medical conditions. What the 'sistah' has is definitely possible and i don't think she is faking it.
Anyway Babymetal is pretty unique, they started when they were little girls (11, 11 and 12). A producer who used to work with bands (but their was reduced demand for such music in Japan) was asked to work at the kids division to work with these little girls. He saw a girl with talent, Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal in Babymetal). And while their was no expectation of Babymetal becoming anything of value, he was allowed to start this hobby side project without any funding: that is Babymetal. In some ways Babymetal is just a silly idea and is eye catching, you could definitely say gimmick and it definitely all started with a wink and a smile, but as she said in the video Babymetal has something: because everything they do this at a high quality level, their is real talent and lots of hard work which went into Babymetal. And you can see it in the reception around the world, they keep breaking records: Babymetal's third album was the highest charting rock/metal album from the whole of Asia on the US billboard charts. They perform at some of the biggest rock and metal festivals in the world, on the main stage. And they have staying power, they've now existed for over 10 years. The oldest just turned 24 a week ago. And all that while they were still in school for most of Babymetal's existence and thus had to tour during their vacation time, etc.
This Budokan show was in 2014 were they announced their first World Tour and a few months later had their big breakthrough performance in the west at Sonisphere, UK 2014. They were moved to the main stage because of the viral hit of their Gimme Chocolate Music Video, but also because how fast Babymetal sold out their show that was planned in the UK for a day or two after the festival. Babymetal performed at the festival and impressed those in the crowd and the international music press because they delivered a really good show and this is how they gained a lot of followers.

It's hard for me to even recall my thoughts when I first experienced Babymetal. Certainly now that I've consumed everything I could get my hands on, it seems perfectly "normal" to me - but when I show friends who have never seen them I get a taste of what it was like. I sometimes tear up when I see young people doing something magnificent like when these young ladies mesmerize crowds of 50,000+ with their talents. I think Marty Friedman explained well why Babymetal has been so successful - It starts with the very Japanese way of mashing together contrasting elements - but that alone sometimes fails miserably and it really is just the all-around quality of what Babymetal does (Musicianship, vocals, choreography and I would say the endearing personalities of Su, Moa, and Yui) that makes it succeed. I think they fit right into the Metal genre which has many artists that use over the top stage shows and mythological storylines - although I will say that for me, the live band was a real game changer - I don't think I would be as into Babymetal if they had only stuck with Babybones.

What you've heard before is: Babymetal isn't real metal; they don't write music / songs, don't play instruments, they're clothes aren't tattered and torn, they dance (it's interpretation of the lyrics), they don't growl and none of the other things "real" metal artists do. NO Babymetal is the confluence of world-class artists in their respective fields, combining their talents in developing a unique sound and production, under the watchful eye of Kobametal (producer). That confluence is performed by (Goddess) Queen Su-metal and (Angel) Princess Moametal, backed by Kami (God/Spirit) Band as prophets of the Fox God. Babymetal isn't metal, they ARE MORE THAN THAT. Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" (Vocal and Dance) and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" (Scream and Dance). The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.

Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide on April 1, 2016. Originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics, its name translates as Martial Arts Hall in English. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most iconic musical performance venues.[1] Budokan was a popular venue for Japanese professional wrestling for a time, and it has hosted numerous other sporting events such as the 1967 Women's Volleyball World Championship. Most recently, the arena hosted the Olympic debut of karate in the 2020 Summer Olympics as well as the judo competition at both the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Their early stuff was more "childish" as they were indeed children at this point (16 and 14 in this video). They are now in their 20's and have a more mature sound. You should check out more they are a very creative band.

BABYMETAL are a serious band that's for sure. They are unapologetic when it comes to experimenting with the Metal Genre, They have been around for almost 10 years now. The thing I like about BABYMETAL is that they are making Metal more accessible for people. I wouldn't have got into metal had I not heard BABYMETAL when I was about 15. In a way now I appreciate Metal music much more than I did in my teens. Now the girls are in their 20s and their style and vocals have matured a lot. Their older music is made to be relevant to the age of the girls at that time and the Kami Band are the musicians who support them. BABYMETAL is more of a group effort.
BABYMETAL is great! What they'll do in the future is only something the Fox god knows but I am excited to see what the come up with next.

When some "men" believes that if you cry, it means you are sad. Say what?! Vince was ONLY listen to the "Metal Band" and not the whole composition. He already had decided to listen to Metal and nothing else. I get it. Vinces friend reacted like many (women AND men) do when listen to BabyMetal for the first time. By Crying... Maybe she was listening with an open mind/heart. I would Love to see her future reaction and actually listen her opinion next time without being interrupted. :-)

Good reaction. To understand Babymetal it is necessary to know a little about its origins. Babymetal, especially what you have reacted to now, is not a heavy metal group to use. It is a group of child metal idols, belonging to a larger group of idols that mainly play Jpop called Sakura Gakuin. It is a group of idols with the structure of the Japanese high schools that have some clubs and these girls were assigned, in an experimental way, the metal club. The lead singer started at 12 years old and the dancers 10 years old. Most of their first album are children's songs, aimed at a female audience between 10 and 15 years old. "Catch if you can" is about a group of girls playing hide and seek with an ogre and the girls were between 17 and 15 years old, I estimate, when they interpreted it. The magic of this group, which is currently the most important Japanese heavy metal group and the one that has gone the furthest in the Western world, is that their songs have reached all kinds of audiences, breaking the age barrier. Today young and hardened metalheads we jump to the rhythm of Babymetal.
Of course, the girls have grown and so has their music. I encourage you to get to know songs like BxMxC, Karate or, for me the best live show I've ever seen, Road of Resistance Live in Japan.

I think there are two factors contributing to the fact that BABYMETAL sometimes make empathic people cry: The music, the dancing and the smiles ceate an incredible positive atmosphere, which on top of that comes pretty unexpected from a Metal performance. I think that can be overwhelming. Secondly (although that's not too obvious in this particular video), seeing how these very young girls manage to assemble huge crowds of loving fans and interact with them can evoke a sense of pride.
That's just two theories. I have been a fan for a few years now, but I still don't quite understand how they can have that much of an effect on me (and apparently others as well) as they do. But I love it!
You have talked about the two separate aspects of the heavy music and the poppy / "childish" vocals. But I think it hasn't quite come across whether you think it works or not. Many reactors realize that in theory it shouldn't work, but amazingly it somehow does. And that's what I think as well. For some reason it works perfectly. The fusion of two different worlds is totally unique and absolutely fascinating. And I think that it's a boon to the world of Metal that is in danger of becoming stale and boring.
I also believe that your reaction might have been more positive (although I had expected worse) if you hadn't been influenced by people talking sh*t about them beforehand. It's a pity that many people take this hate at face value, so I'm glad you still gave them a chance. Even if they are not going to be your new favourite band, you might have learned that they are not as terrible as some people like to make them look.

It's not a woman thing, it's a Babymetal thing. She makes grown men cry ffs lmao and there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe not you, maybe not now, but who knows, it might happen.. For me, it's the sheer tenacity, passion and love that they put into their performances. All of that accumulated, plus their professionalism, that is what gives them their enormous stage presence. You probably don't feel it now, but you will eventually if you keep an open-mind. Like su says, "don't think, feel."
I'm a 29yo diehard metal head, an elitist if you will, and I will admit that they are the best thing to happen to metal in a long time. A breath of fresh air. Some will get it, others won't, and that's okay, but if you take the time to understand and actually give them a chance, they will grown on you.
I was one of those guys that used to talk down on them. Honestly, I absolutely hated them when my friend introduced them to me back in 2014. I legit found it disrespectful in a way because I felt like it was a mockery of the genre, so I dismissed them entirely without giving them a chance. Had I known their whole back story and how they came about, it would've made it much easier to digest, but I chose to be ignorant and allowed my preconceptions to sway my decision making. It wasn't until almost two years later that Pandora randomly played one of their songs (studio ver.) while I was on my way home from work, that I realized the genius behind Babymetal. I got home and looked up the live version of the same song and was blown away.
In my opinion, they are the physical embodiment of positivity. A once in a lifetime talent that will never be replicated. A true phenomenon.
Anyway, thanks for the content and I wish you and your loved ones a happy new year! Cheers!

Nice 1st reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance. Here is a little bit of BABYMETAL info...In 2019, BABYMETAL became the first Asian artists to hit #1 on BILLBOARD's Top Rock Albums chart with their latest album, "Metal Galaxy" and in 2020 the album won the MTV Japan VMA 2020 award for BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. BABYMETAL has been melting faces for ELEVEN+ years. Su, the lead singer, is currently 24 years old, while Moa and Yui are 22. Yes, they were very young when BABYMETAL was formed! This concert video is from several years ago and Su-metal, the lead singer, was just 16 years old performing at one of Japan's most prestigious arenas.
BABYMETAL have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 50+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too.🤘🦊🤘

Nice Reaction :--) but "Be Warned !"
Once You let them Grow on You , You'll Never Gonna Be Able to Get Rid of Them ! ;-)
''BABYMETAL''' (One word !) refers to "the birth of a new kind of Metal, they call it 'Kawaii Metal'' ("Cute Metal" ;-)
(The name in fact has nothing to do with the age of the girls, it is often thought of when looking at their previous work )
"Kawaii Metal" is Mix of J-Pop & "Every" kind of Metal !!
Because of the Mix they will never bore you !!
(That is if your open to Metal Sub-Genres because they have almost every metal genre in their repertoire ;-)
    (+/- 50 songs)
So If you're willing to do More BABYMETAL?
Just be prepared & Buckle up !!!
Because your in it for A Hell of a Ride ;-)

Yes this is a fairly normal response to this band, I think the fact that you focus mostly on the girls emphasizes the point that this is where they are different and doing something new, you may think it childish and that is your honest opinion, but I think children acting childish is more acceptable than bands such as Slip Knot etc. dressing up in children's Halloween costumes don't you think? Vocally they sing with their natural voices where as there are many metal bands that growl and scream like hormonal teen agers about how life is so unfair to them where they are 30yo+ grown men. The point I am trying to make is that they are young Japanese girls and to exclude them from Metal because that is what they are is simply gatekeeping and expecting them to be what they are not just to conform to the norm is also gatekeeping. You say you find it hard to take them seriously yet they have devoted over half of their lives to this band releasing albums touring the world and performing along side many of the bands you do take seriously. Anyway criticisms aside I enjoyed your reaction, I do feel you were honest and as I said it is typical of a first reaction to them, I hope if you do another one to them you focus more on the actual song and show rather than whether or not you agree with the concept. The girls role in the band is to sing dance and entertain the audience, please judge them on how well they performed this role instead of how well they fit into your perceptions of what Metal is supposed to be.

Nice reaction. She cried from pure happiness. One of the things Babymetal wanted to do when they started out was to get more females into metal. They would be very happy with her reaction. Babymetal is a fusion of Jpop and metal to form a new thing called Kawaii Metal. I suggest you start to take them seriously. Babymetal have been around for over 10 years now. They've out done and outsold most pure metal band out today. They are a force all their own. Babymetal is the 3 girls at the time and the backing band is the Kamiband. They tour with the Kamiband although the members have changed over the years, they are all guys. While many of their songs are fun upbeat tunes. They do have one particular song that has made grown hardcore metalheads cry. You're not ready for to be graced with that yet. IMO you need to listen to many more songs before that. Road of Resistance lies ahead in your future. Enjoy the ride through the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Thanks for reacting to BABYMETAL!! Hopefully you would get to react to more music from them, they are really talented (the girls and the band) and they have many different songs, with many styles and genres. I was into some heavy dark metal stuf, and after hearing/watching at 3-4 different BABYMETAL songs, I just couldn't stop hearing/watching them. And I judge a band or group and it's seriousness by how hard they work to make their fans enjoy their music, and in that topic BABYMETAL work harder than most of the "serious" bands that are out there. Thanks again!!

Welcome to the Foxhole. Please don't listen to ignorant Gatekeepers... Their negative influence and preconceived ideas about what the genre should be is no good for anyone... It is an antiquated, close minded way of thinking. Thank you for the reaction. 🦊🤘🔥🖤

You can't put Babymetal in a single genre, because their music is a blend of metal, jpop, and every other genre out there... Ska metal? checkout Yava.... Latin Metal, Night Night Burn.... Trap Metal, BxMxC... and the list goes on for 50+ songs. Don't let the youth of the girls fool ya... as of this year, they've been at it for over 10years. They performed/collabed/toured with everyone from Metallica, Rob Halford, Red Hot Chilli Pepper, to Sabaton, Korn, Cory Taylor, to Lady Gaga and Bring Me The Horizon. Easiest way to understand them is think of Babymetal as it's own genre. They are the masters of live performances... As Moametal said in an interview, their albums are calling cards for their live shows. 🤘🦊🤘 have fun in your experience of Babymetal.

Crying. Yeah, believe it or not, with BABYMETAL that's a thing. Obviously, you inadvertently stumbled upon a core BABYMETAL philosophy:
    "Don't think. FEEL."
The intensity, energy, & crowd interaction displayed in this vid are the norm. BABYMETAL has a large catalogue (10 years worth of material) where no two songs are alike, & many sub-genres of metal are represented. Imo, the most entertaining & FUN group of the last decade!

It's even weirder when you have seen hundreds of concerts, many of them metal, but I'll put it this way: Between seeing the band that got me into music AND metal, Metallica, in their prime, in a stadium, and seeing BABYMETAL...twice...at the House of Blues in Chicago, BABYMETAL (the girls AND the band) absolutely rocked harder, and put on a better, more intense show than ANYT of those hundreds of metal bands I've seen live :) I love you Metallica, but sorry...Strange but true lol. But yes, it's DEFINITELTY a live band/crowd experience, for sure!

I'm a 65 year old guy, brought up in the woods of Cape Breton (small island of the rest coast of Canada) and was lived up on original metal ... BABYMETAL had made me very many times.
yes, the Kami band (the musicians) are incredible, but make no mistake, BABYMETAL IS A SERIOUS BAND!!
This is one of their more fun songs, but they have lots of serious songs that put most 'real' metal bands to shame, and most metal bands that are being honest will gladly admit that and learn from it.
these days they are on hiatus, but there more recent music are incredible mixtures of metal and world music (Indian Bollywood, Thai rap, Western radio, EDM, etc)
think of BABYMETAL as a whole summer of traveling the world going to metal music festivals and listening to the best of the best from 12 or 16 weekends of discovering the very best of metal the world has to offer.

Vince, perhaps you can elaborate a bit on your understanding of "serious music" or "serious band". From my point of view, if the music touches you (and as matter of fact it touches many thousands of people ), it is as serious as music can ever be.
