  • 10 minutes of pure Trainluvr fun - the full video from my 4-23-2008 trip to the Brighton Line to get this HD footage of the R-40s in their last weeks or months on the BMT (imovie downgraded the resolution though). If you are into conductor announcements you will hear the BEST ever coming into Church Avenue and later. I invite people to download all my videos so that some may survive long after their time on the web is finished.

Thank you so much for uploading this video years ago even when the R40S/Ms&R42s were still around the B regardless of mixed sets or not. Even seeing the R68/As on the Q now brings back a small part of my childhood. All we need now is the R40S/M/42s back on the B to redo Brighton. This is absolutely beautiful.

They should have kept the R40s instead of the R42s. Although they were a year older they seemed to be in much better shape in the late 2000s. The R42s were already rusting by that point while the R40s were doing just fine.

I really do miss the r40 and the r 40a trains. I also miss the R38. when I was a kid living in New York City I remember writing these and I also remember writing these each time I visited New York thereafter. They were excellent trains and I wish they had extended their use. Some may not agree with me in this, but those are 160s are pieces of junk.

    • @TheRailLeaguer

burbank After a subway car reaches 40 years old, the subway car becomes maintenance he’ll. Refurbishment and Overhaul are out of the question as the cars are a lost cause. If would be more cheaper to replace the cars with newer models. The money saved can be used for other things.

Trainluvr yes. I never knew that the trains existed. Also I’ve been on an R46 while it was running on the F train. But yeah, the F train mostly uses R160s. Also because I don’t take the J train during rush hours, that line mostly uses R160s. They use R32s, but only during rush hours, and only R160 trains run during midday and weekends. I’ve been on the E train a lot, so that’s a lot of R160s.

1:42 and this is why I would never take the B train in Brooklyn. Because it would go just as slow or even slower than the Q, you might as well have got on the Q and rode through the local stops. They would do this often.
Made absolutely no sense to me. Express is supposed to be faster, not the same speed. It's a shame too because I really did enjoy riding those B trains the couple of times that I did in the late 2000's
Back in the 80's and 90's when they had it set up so that Q was the express and the D was the local on that line, the Q was very fast passing these stations.
If I remember right, going back even further than that you could see some of the signs were partially covered up where it said that the Brown M train used to stop at these stations.
