    Hi Mary Ann, good show as always! The engine, if a 350, would not be original to 1961; that displacement bowed for 1967 in the Camaro and was then subsequently offered in other models. A '61 Corvette would boast a 283. Sweet car to be sure. Enjoying all the Vettes and hoping to see more gorgeous American rides, both old and late-model. Have a nice weekend!! : D

      AMCmachine Don't forget it also might have had the quad carb option as well depending on who ordered it. That could explain why it has the 350 In it.

      Maybe the original engine from the 'Vette is out there somewhere, happily residing in a street rod or something.

      Thought the 327 did not come until later than 1961. A 283 would be correct then. Always remember the 59 with fuel injection.

      Although, that stereo looks like it's from the 80's. You could install a stereo with enough power to run an 8' sub box and place it in the trunk and upgrade the stock speakers. No new holes just rewiring. I'm with you, cutting holes in that work of art would be a terrible idea!

    Don't misrepresent that car as a factory 350 V8. The 350 engine come along for many years later. That 350 engine killed that car's value. The average person doesn't know that so guess it doesn't matter. You won't gain the public's trust like that.

    • @AutohausofNaples
      @AutohausofNaples  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And at which point in this video was it misrepresented? You may see the appraisal on our website which also states information about the engine. www.autohausfl.com/vehicle-details/1961-chevrolet-corvette-convertible-convertible-1ddda923fdf04d3fa24de8208edfdce0

    • @stwhite5135
      @stwhite5135 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think John Hughes meant if the car was factory original it would not have a 350 ci engine. So if as you list it it is a 350 engine it is not original which would lessen it's value to a collector.

    • @herman452
      @herman452 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      OK, nowhere in the video did you acknowledge that the engine is not and cannot be original. Nor do you in the link you provided except that if you scroll waaaaay down, there is an "appraisal" which notes that the engine block is a 68, but also claims that, other than this block, the car is original. First, a 283 four barrel in a 61 Vette would have had a standard cam and the tachometer would show orange at 5000 rpm, and a redline beginning around 5300 rpm, not the 63-6500 redline this Vette's tach has. Either the tach is not original, or this was not originally a 4-barrel motor. Second, a 61 283 crank would not fit in a 350 block (main journal sizes are different), and if it did, the motor wouldn't have 350 cubic inches (4" bore and 3" stroke makes a 302). The heads don't appear to be from the 283, either, and 61 valve covers don't have oil breather caps; instead there is a breather pipe in the intake manifold - which this motor doesn't have. In short, at the very least, it appears that the 283 has been entirely replaced by a 350. What other changes have been made - who knows? Is the clutch original? Transmission? Rear end? Such changes are not necessarily a bad thing for someone who actually wants to drive their Vette, but they do diminish the collector value, and should be forthrightly acknowledged. By the way, the tach redline (and lack of fuel injection emblems) would indicate the original motor was a dual-quad, duntov-cammed 270 horse 283.

    • @gregthorson4361
      @gregthorson4361 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong in so many ways is right! The 1961 Corvette is only offered with a 283 engine, the title says a V-8 327 and then she blurts out it’s a 350. The 350 didn’t come out till I believe 67 or 68.I mean seriously; know what you’re talking about before you do a video it’s not that hard and it’s embarrassing too by the way.
      Just because you have a implanted life vest that will activate immediately once you hit the water...you won’t have to blow or pull to activate, does not mean you should be representing a 1961 Corvette when you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.

    Mar Ann... You're classy and beautiful... and hopefully (as I don't "Know" you) it's from the sincerity of your heart showing outwardly. Question; Is it 327 or 350ci powered? Under the title in the description, it says it's 327 powered, and in the video you repeatedly say it's a 350... which is it?!? Either way though, it's not "Original"! The 327 wasn't available until the 1962 model year, and the 350 didn't show up until the 1967 model year, although the 327 was still an option through to and including the 1969 models.
    The Correct engine(s) for the 61' Vette was the 283ci engine available in multiple options..... a 2bbl 185hp (8.5:1cr) a single 4 bbl & 9.5:1 cr rated at 220hp, dual quads w/10.5:1cr rated at either 245 or 270hp (270hp with the famous Duntov "30/30" solid lifter cam), and then either the "Ramjet" with mech. Rochester Fi rated at 250hp with 9.75:1cr, or the "Super Ramjet" with 10.5:1cr and the "magic" 283hp (1hp per ci.).
    The Tachometer also, does Not appear to be original (as seen at the 1:34 mark) either... unless it was originally equipped with the dual quad, 270hp engine... but as I noted above, it does Not have the proper "badging" for that, either.
    This vette is not badged for the FI version, nor the dual quad version either, so was most likely Originally equipped with either the 2bbl 185hp (w/8.5:1cr.) or the sgl 4bbl - 220hp 283. IF it still had the Original power and drive train (with all numbers, matching) it might be worth a few thousand.
    These models are NOT "highly sought after", generally speaking... and even if it were originally equipped the "power-pac" heads (241 casting) with all numbers matching (with original build sheet) it still wouldn't bring a whole lot of money.... and most of its "worth" would be in the Rochester mech. Fi more so than the car itself.
    Having said that.... the ole saying of "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", applies here.....and there is always some guy (or gal) with more money than brains "out there" who will pay whatever price the "schyster" who's selling it, will rip him off for.
    Who Knows... how many changes this vette has had made to it, but one thing is certain.... it is definitely NOT "Original"..... and not saying that you said it was... I'm just making an observation.
    My first vette was a 62 with the dual quad 327 (Edelbrock sgl plane manifold and an Isky 505 Super Lagera cam and springs, solids, etc.) with Two tops (was the "hardtop convertible" model), a removable hardtop and the "ragtop" (like this one in the video).... and I bought it in 1966 for $750.!!
    By the way..... those are Not "knock-off" Wheels as you indicated in the video..... they Are, metal Hub Caps mounted on factory steel wheels. Knock-Offs were not even an option on the 61's. Just some "trivia". lol ; ) Have a Wonderful day, week, month.... life.

    One of the most desireable Corvettes the 1961 and 1962 models along with the split rear window 1963 model. By a wide margin one of the most good looking 2 seater convertibles/hardtops made. The colour combo Ermin White and red interior is perfect for the car, and with the red instrument cluster/panel which is the most stunning in automotive history.
    But please handle the vintage collectible manuals and documentation more carefully the next time, ok? The glue holding the pages together can be brittle and the pages can come loose, please find a suitable cover for the manuals and documentation on vintage cars.

    How much is the price you were asking for this car?
    Also is it numbers-matching? That car I believe had a smaller engine when it came off the line. Does the owner still have the engine or is that 350 a substitute?

  • @JamesMartin-ls1wm
    @JamesMartin-ls1wm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    61 would have come with a 283.327 wasn't available until the 62's came out.350's came out much later 1969 in Corvettes.

    In my earlier comment, I meant period costume for each classic car presented. Please don't take it the wrong way. It was just meant as a suggestion to enhance your already very professional and smart presentation. Well done.

    Not a factory original engine. GM didn't come out with the 350 till '67. This was originally a fuel injected 283. Would have been far more valuable with the original engine. People who seek this kind of car out are meticulous and particular, and they don't want a modern stereo - you're out of your league trying to sell this.

    • @herman452
      @herman452 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you think it was originally FI? No fuel injection emblems on the fenders (of course, they could have been removed). If you're looking at the tach, the 270 horse dual quad motor also had a Duntov cam and the same high redline as the fuelie motor.
