  • Trolling Motor Mount that is easily removable and requires no modification to the Kayak. Made for less than $15 not counting the PVC Glue, less than $30 Counting the Glue. I used 1 1/4" Schedule 40 PVC this is what fit most tightly inside of the Pelican Rod Holder. Please note, that I had to grind and sand the PVC to get it to fit inside of the hold at the depth I was looking for. I could have went with 1" PVC but it would have been too loose inside of the holder and I wanted the largest diameter PVC I could use for added strength. I used 2 Conduit Clamps to secure the Motor Shaft to the PVC End Cap.

    Weird I have the same Yak, just got it for my 1st anniversary, and was hoping on something like this. For a few hundred more I can save my back and Heart, from another Heart Attack.....this is a God Send, thank you sir.

      Capt Matt It worked but I have redone it entirely now. Added a 2*4 attached to PVC coming up from rod holders on each side. Also attached to board is battery mount. Need to do another video update I guess.

      Baldwin Outdoors iwas thinking the same thing. Use both rod holders with sched 40 1-1/4 pipe and a 2x4.....should be more stable i would guess.
      Just need a short shaft motor.

      That's why I used a transom mount motor, on the 2x4 it's easy to flip it up when putting in, or getting out of the water.

      I have the parts to do it in PVC and a 2x4 with 1/2 x 8" bolts.....I'll take pics post tomorrow.

    Hi from Ukrain, Kyiv! It's a very good idea to install a trolling motor on a kayak !!! Allows you to fish for a long time and calmly, without spending much energy on rowing with oars! Like!

    Richard, yes. I have had it out with motor 4 or 5 times with good success. Turning motor all the way to five will have you passing paddle yaks like sitting still.

    Hello! Tell me more about the kayak, what you added to it, how you tuned it. Take a video of fishing on a kayak!

    Mike I saw your comment but it's not showing up in the timeline, so I'll copy it here
    "Great video! I'm going to attempt it on my Muskie Angler Kayak. Wanted to ask what size of battery (voltage)you are using, and trolling motor size? You also mentioned using a different clamp, what"
    First off, Thanks. Planned on making more, but to few adventures lately. I used a standard 12V deep cycle battery from Academy for about $100 and a Minn Kota Endura C2 3 speed trolling motor. again for $100 at Academy. Also plan on adding some LED strip lights for this spring and summer night fishing, and I have a submersible night light as well that I will run off the battery. Will do an update video once I get all that installed.
    On the clamp, I would just use a thicker steel instead of a conduit clamp. I plan on going to a good hardware store to see if I can find some stronger ones. Since it seems they are the weak link on the project. Replaced 1 time and need to replace again.

    That’s a lot of faith in PVC 🤣🤣

    I like the idea, but if the trolling motor can be attached to the PVC the same as normally to a transom, it would tip up as usual and would be awesome! Do you place the motor in the rod holder on the fly in deeper water? Subbed!

    • @baldwincreative871
      @baldwincreative871  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rendezvous yeah I have to get the yak in about 1 -2 foot of water before inserting the PVC into the rod holder with this mount. the one I'm working on now will allow me to use the transom mount. Thanks.

    Cutting a slot through the pvc the depth of the rod holder should fix your fitment issue

  • @JacobAeaves
    @JacobAeaves 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought to pvc to make a mount for mine. Quick question, does it turn over on its side, for like when you're storing the kayak or hauling it on your car, or does it just stay straight up and down?

    • @JacobAeaves
      @JacobAeaves 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never mind I see your comment that says it doesn't swing up. Thank you!

    • @baldwincreative871
      @baldwincreative871  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that's the main draw back to the rig. I store it separately from kayak at all times, and then when putting in, put the kayak in the water, then with motor and pvc rig attached to motor, insert it into the rod holder. Same when coming ashore, you just need to make sure you stop soon enough so that the prop doesn't hit the bank, other wise it will bend the metal mounts and then you'll have to start all over. Need to figure out a way to make it swing free so that if you accidentally hit something something designed to give will give before the metal mounts. Or use something stronger than conduit clamps would work to, like 1/4" thick clamps for the shaft.

    like your idea.. but how to make a turn

  • @MrAvants432

    Are you noticing any balance issues? Are you still happy with this design or would you do something different now that you've done this for a few months?

    • @baldwincreative871
      @baldwincreative871  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No balance issues at all. If I did it again I would try to add the ability to swing up the motor to avoid stumps or when coming in to bank. If you hit a stump it weakens the conduit straps and you get some vibration.

      Oustanding! Keep up the hard work!

    • @baldwincreative871
      @baldwincreative871  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shawn I would probably do something different since after taking it out a few times the clamps loosen up from the push of the motor. I think ideally a PVC stub on each side with a PVC outrigger to place the motor in the back with cables attached to steer it and the power controls relocated to inside the kayak would be best. I have seen a video on how to do that but didn't want to take motor apart.
