Marcel Wadek Thanks for your comments Mars, appreciate it !!Just finishing my 2015 Fish & Cray Doubtful Sound adventure into this amazing part of unspoiled New Zealand & a bit of a boys club full length video on all the trip to Doubtful & Queenstown. Hope to see you on the water soon Mate!!
Hi George ... Yes that is correct. We had a 4 day charter with 5 divers on the trip & also 4 Cray pots which were set each day. It was an Epic Adventure that i will always remember !! .... Here are the MPI rules for Rock Lobster in Fiordland = Daily bag limit No person may take or possess more than 6 rock lobsters (both spiny and packhorse rock lobster species combined) on any one day within the Fiordland (Te Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Area. No person may take or possess more than 3 rock lobsters on any one-day that are taken from within the Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) internal waters of Fiordland. No accumulation applies.
Limits on accumulation Within the Fiordland (Te Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Area, a limited defence provision exists to allow possession of accumulated rock lobster taken over 3 or more days in excess of the daily possession limit if: • not more than 15 rock lobster are possessed; and • the daily take limit of 6 rock lobster was not exceeded on any day; and • not more than 3 rock lobster were taken from the Milford Sound internal waters of Fiordland; and • in the case of rock lobster held on board or landed from a vessel, including rock lobster removed from any holding pot, the rock lobster are held in labelled containers or bags that: - contain only rock lobster taken on a single day; and - are clearly labelled to record: (i) the individual fisher’s full name; and (ii) the date on which the rock lobster was taken by the fisher; and (iii) the number of rock lobster held in the container or bag; and (iv) the number of rock lobster (if any) taken from the Milford Sound internal waters of Fiordland. In the case of rock lobster held temporarily in a holding pot at sea, the fisher maintains and is able to immediately produce upon the request of a Fishery Officer, a legible written record containing the following information: (i) the individual fisher’s full name; and (ii) the date on which the fisher took the rock lobster; and (iii) the number of rock lobster held in each rock lobster holding pot, including the number of rock lobster taken from within the Milford Sound internal waters of Fiordland; and (iv) the Global Positioning System (GPS) co-ordinates or physical location of each holding pot; and (v) The date on which the fisher removed rock lobster from each holding pot; and (vi) The number of rock lobster removed from each holding pot. Thanks for watching !!
Thanks Ken & yes i think your right on reducing the limit to 4. We have done this trip for many years now & only going in once a year. It is certainly the last Frontier & i think it's remoteness & access will hold its fishing & Hunting paradise in the future to come, as long as quota systems are managed properly in the years to come !!
Yes it seems a lot, but all legal required limits were taken from the 5 divers over the 7 day period & also the non divers using set Cray Fish pots. Most of the catch goes to people & friends to enjoy & the trips we do are normally only once in a year but some time every 2nd year as their are a lot of cost involved for the whole trip & fights, accommodations ect. = Hope you enjoyed the video Adventure & subscribe for new content coming up .. Cheers !!
30 a day.210 for the 7 days that's not including the pots aswell..you say that's once a year but how many other guys go an do the same thing and say the same thing.its all legal but is it SUSTAINABLE?..
Hi Lydia ... Thanks for your comments mate & yes ... Is the quoter system Sustainable ?. I believe that 4 crays per day is more than enough & have been pushing for this for many years. However i can recall this trip was for 4 days with 2 bins of 12 crayfish = 24 & quarter bin of Blue Cod in total. Iv'e documented the catch limits below for your reading & i'm guessing 2016 was our last trip into that area & not had the opportunity for the last 5 years since ....... I always thought you only can take 6 crays per diver not 6 per person on the boat

Brilliant Gerald
Thank you !!
excellent vid
Thank you .. it was an incredible journey into the unknown !!
Great stuff ,although I reckon this is one of the last frontiers and maybe a 4 limit each just might just help preserve this area.
