That was the first time we put the sail up. Plenty of sailing time in all weather conditions will happen before the big day. We also found the furling went on the work side of the shroud, so we have sorted that. It was holding the clew back and causing it to jam
Looking forward to Part 2 across the Tasman mate........................., hope by now the passage across has been done and a few beers have slipped down as well. Good videos !
Mate, bloody good video(s), don't change your format (or music) - we're all there for you boys and your ventures! Looking forward to Part 2, having been there, done that...
I really enjoyed the audio, enhanced by (welcomed) absence of pointless incidental music and pointless 'bants'. The squeak of rubber boot upon varnished wood really brought it to life. Magic, thank you. Am now a subscriber. Best wishes, Bournemouth, UK.
Nice setup boys, hard to miss a Tassie cray boat.Just got you covered with ais and will keep an eye out for you,Are you still looking for the end of may to start heading her home, cheers Dicky
Kerian ,shame I missed u in havlock ,often in at the marina, been living in pelorus sounds ,fixin boats since I last saw you next to me in the Evans bay mooring, sad about the Frances , saw you're film on it ,well filmed too, ,!!!,, so is this one ,, those sails wiĺl work well in 30 + knots .with the wind on the beem ,or aft . Looking forward to the rest of the trip ,,Duncan,,B.
Hey Duncan, had I known you were in havelock, I would've made time to have a beer with you. You are definitely living in the right part of the world, very idyllic and perfect for a boatie. How long have you been based down there?
@@Un-guided ,yea would have been good to catch up.aŕived in Havelock on the 18 th may to pick up supplies and a 50 foot ketch to fix and live on ,cause me and my new lady had baby in October last year , and our boats are to small for a toddler, yes my lady has a 35 ft yacht ,I met her when I came down to Nelson Sept 2020 , to put it back together took ten days to rewire re rigg, and deliver to pelorus, it was on the hard for 5 years ,I returned from wellington December 2020, to finish the work , loved the weather and carm conditions, been living in the kenepuru sound , while restoring a near hundred year old launch ,am fixing another one now too,and getting lots off work at 50perhour,,, been all around both sounds and D'uraville since then , money's really good here as shortage of boat builders , fair winds on your trip mate,I gather your getting paid for a delivery ,catch you up some time
Good luck will be a great crossing . Use your sails for a steadier crossing in conjunction with your motor just ticking along your head sail needs to be wound in so you have a couple of turns around the sail with your sheet ropes-before you cleat it off Enjoy
Seems silly to comment but l have an Uncle named Ole Neilson from Denmark though he has been a Canadian Immigrant app. since 1958 . My mother arrived at the same time, she has passed many moons ago, but Ole is still hanging in there.
Followed your last trip from Vic to Nz was a great vid, looking forward to following this one as well, the old girl looked like she was making at least 10 - 12 knots steaming , Have a safe trip.Cheers Aussie in Canada
Looking good!😅😂 I think I would haave to clean and paint the bilge, esp the stretch from the stern gland to under the engine sump. A couple of spray aerosols of engine degreaser followed by a wet/dry vacuum + optional lick of paint. She looks like a nice boat! It will be interesting to see how she goes with sail. At the very least the sails will steady her in those rock 'n roll Tasman swells!😊
Make sure you watch a few TH-cams on how to sail guys. I'm subscribed and looking forward to your Vlog of the trip. What could possibly go wrong? A couple of sailor tips - don't leave on a Friday and don't allow any bananas on the boat.
It was the first time the sheets went up with us on board, so we made sure it was less than 5 knots of wind. The idea of this day was to get everything up and correct any issues. We found the furling for the jib was on the wrong side of the shroud, which I am sure you saw that. Then, after that, we inspected the sails for any holes and tears and made sure they were running as they should.
Long time since I last seen port NN at night. 1970s, last century. O.o BTW you need a better camera, and some mounts, to hold the camera, while he is fart arsing about. Sound kept dropping out as well. @38:14 i'm off getting too dizzy, waving that camera around like that.
Best to dowse the sails and stay with the engine. Trying to sail it like yacht would be hopeless with all the covers over the boat and clear sides . Besides I think the crew need some lessons on the finer points of yachtmanship.
Nice boat but not a crayfish boat. Had the pleasure of fishing with a Stew Ellis on the Searaider out of Riverton in the early 80s. Stew was the saltiest capt. And the Searaider with its 3" thick kiri hall was a true Tasman crayfish boat, without the fluff and pomp of your boat.
Hey David i also done a couple of trips with Stew on the Searaider in the late 80s, and Stew was salty and grumpy bugger. Cheers, My dad Had the Vessel Dusky Bay and fished in Chalky Sound, great memories. Cheers
Hi David. This boat was originally designed to be craying in tassie, but it was never finished and sat in a shed in Tasmania until it was finished off as a pleasure launch. I know the Haggertys in Riverton. There is a lot of great history and people down there. The second episode is up now if you want to view it. Appreciate your great story!
You guys ran an sail experiment? At the fist part in to the wind , Those losse lines to the head sail are not the best impression for a good crew. where are there two Ti-wraps , just furl the sail a bit more and belay the lines better. Then you had no clue how to set sails. Obviously on these big boats you can’t sail sharp at the wind. Abeam is better but if speed is essential you may need that engine too. Wel you learn😊
It's a motorsailer. The plan is to motorsail. This is the first time we had them up on this boat. It was all about inspection and to make sure everything is in operational order and condition more than it was sailing. Did you notice we had less than 5 kn of wind. Normally not the ideal weather for sailing
This is going to be a disaster - can you see it already? There are no Bananas and no women on the boat - this is going to be a disaster who ever heard of a Sea trip without Bananas or women on the boat - This is a Fail - All souls Lost - Every ship should have at least 3 bananas and 3 women - or all souls are Lost - David Jones was just pissing with you - Women and Bananas are Real Life Savers on a boat !!!
I'll be sure to throw the bananas overboard, keep a look out for them, they may come through the cook straight. As for the girls. Did you not notice the extra door down in the accommodation, and how much room it took up. We're sorted mate, enjoy your bananas
Great video, been waiting for part 2 for half a year!
awsome boat`
Good stuff...
good stuff boys, I'm right there with ya.🙂 keep some tension on the furler line and sheets or you'll flog that headsail clew to death.

Beautiful looking boat great to see her returning home, love ya work fellas
The best sailing tutorial on the web.
I like videos without the music sound track - the engine is music enough. Have fun Guy's and safe voyage.
Agree love the natural audio 🇦🇺😊
Great video guys bloody obvious ya need a sailor onboard cheers n beers Marty Australia
A grand lady and worthy of adventure...
The rain reminded me of an adventure through French Pass way back in 97/98... It rained like crazy then...
Looking forward to Part 2 across the Tasman mate........................., hope by now the passage across has been done and a few beers have slipped down as well. Good videos !
Sorry it's taken so long, however part 2 is up now and part 3 is up in a couple weeks.
waiting, with a huge smile.!
She's a beauty!

Excellent entertainment , looking forward to the big crossing video 👍👍

Looks like fun enjoy your adventure
What’s my favourite country New Zealand without some rain! Living in London Ontario Canada!
Good food = good morale on a boat, what an adventure, wish I was there, thanks for taking us along ❤
Two good bastards living the real world

Nice 👌🏻
LOVE the Mussel Pot!
Congratulations with your fine ship. It looks well maintained.
I vill follow your trip to Tasmania. Br. Ole from Denmark.

Chuck the bananas overboard before starting the motor,
Best of luck dudes.
I'll be watching progress.
Cheers from MS Matakana

Plenty of time has been put into cleaning those bildges out. You could eat off them now. They will be getting a nice thick coat of paint.
Make sure you watch a few TH-cams on how to sail guys. I'm subscribed and looking forward to your Vlog of the trip. What could possibly go wrong? A couple of sailor tips - don't leave on a Friday and don't allow any bananas on the boat.
New Zealand has the best pies
Yes we do mmmmm
Why didn't you tighten up the jib sheets?!
I was cringing at the sheets flying around and the metre of jib flogging 🤣
The drum overload on the sheet winch was interesting 🤔
Windless. Not good for a sailing vessel….lol
It was the first time the sheets went up with us on board, so we made sure it was less than 5 knots of wind. The idea of this day was to get everything up and correct any issues. “Out of The Deep I Cry unto thee Oh Lord”.
Love it! Great upload. You guys get around! Make fast that roller furling line @ 28:00!!! At 28 tonnes reckon she could do with 250hp i/o 180?
Thought you might chuck the Cray pots over to get some for the journey.
Taking a trip on a trip and tripping out at sailing 😂
Fkn good tunes
When are you leaving was thinking about bringing the kids over to see the boat this weekend?
Just checked you out on ais will be fun to follow you acoss the ditch the boat was built close to me 🇦🇺
Saya kira ini adalah kapal kecil!ternyata kapal dengan segala fasilitas yg lengkap dan mewah.memungkinkan kenyamanan dalam mengarungi lautan👍
Thank you for commenting. It is a beautiful boat! The second episode is up now of crossing the Tasman Sea
This is going to be awesome! Subbed right up. When's departure?
When mother nature says!! Go, we'll be off
it was painful watching the roller reefing halyards about to destroy the sail 😂😂
Eureka guys !
“Oh God! There’s no sauce”.
If that isn’t Life, I don’t know what is.
Yeah HP would have been perfect
Good slaves are hard to find these days.

Does it ever stop rating in this place !!
Earl Hooker on the blues geet?

How is it on diesel
Did she have a sister ship "Bonnie Rose"?
No second class meals on this trip!
never mind the tech stuff just don’t forget a bottle of sauce !!!
HP
Just two crew? Bosun/Cook + Captain/Engineer
"Yeah, let's just see what happens..."
SUpposednly they stopped allowing any more Huon Pine from being lopped like 40 years ago, so I don't know where it's coming from
Divers are cutting it from the bottom of lakes. Danger work for sure
real

The best fisherman are the saltiest. Is searaider still around?
No sauce !??? That’s it I’m jumping over the side.
Hahahha no sauce is a bit rough I agree!
Everyone is obsessed with music. Thank the daylight for The mute button.
Thumbs down for the music. 👎👎👎👎👎
Not just music. Bad music.
Do you like baby shark, we can chase it to baby shark if you want. It does have a catching tone
Stop waving the camera around!
these poor fools don't know that banana's are bad luck
Just an old wives tale mate ,,
Only if you're superstitious.
Refer to previous messages, you'll find the bananas in the cook straight, you can share them with all the boys.
They're not "beds" but "berths".
Rats nest of lines topside made me cringe. Love the boat.
All lines have been cleaned up,
Hi how much was the boat
You guys ran an sail experiment?

"Toilet" and "shower" is "the head".
Tht poor sail 😂
Your lack of sail knowledge means you can not be Kiwis.

How can that huge boat sleep only 5?? I can get about 2, 345 people on board....yep, and let them sleep where they fall!!😂🤣😅
The trouble is, the way these guys look it as is many sheep it will carry..
Bananas??!! Nay!
