    Thank you for this helpful video. I’m puzzled about the marketplace though. It seems to me like it is significantly underpowered and that there are way too many of the resource pieces associated with the different outposts for a rule that says you can only have one of each. At the end of the game there’s always a large pile of marketplace resources while the other pieces are scarce.
    With this one resource per outpost rule, a player that focuses on the marketplace can only fulfill two of the higher 3 level contracts and two of the lower level ones that require more scrolls. It seems to me like either the higher level contracts should maintain the scroll requirement (especially since you can get as many of these as you like) or a player should be able to activate any and all outposts he has on the marketplace to gain more of that resource to fulfill contracts as long as he pays the required amount and type of cubes for each resource. This would balance out the relative strength of the marketplace, caravanasary and mosque tracks.
    As it stands with that one resource per outpost rule, the marketplace is relegated to being a secondary track that you use to top off your points after you’ve exhausted the mosque or caravanasary. I think the game would be a lot more fun with a third viable path to victory and that it would balance it out significantly. Any thoughts?
    Thanks again,
    Jonathan

    Hi, Paul, such a great tutorial video. It really helps me a lot.
    A question needs to be clarified. In 13:24, if I want to buy a rare good (in Kashgar ), it seems to put just one camel between the inner city and outer city (Samarkand - Kashgar) since I placed a trading post (a disk) in Samarkand already.
    Or I can buy the rare good in Kashgar by putting 2 camels on the routes between the inner city and outer city ( Merv ->Samarkand ->Kashgar), if I don’t have the trading post in Samarkand.
    Referring to rule book page 12 - Buy Goods and the example as following.
    Thanks, Paul

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.
      To answer the question: There was already a red disc in Samarkand yes, but in this example, you were not the red player. Sorry, I should have clarified that. The red player would have needed to only use 1 camel. Other players would need to pay 2.

    Is it mentioned that you score 1 vp for each of your buildings in scoring phase

  • @michaelnewsome1248
    @michaelnewsome1248 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rules Query: If you place a building on a site i.e. activate it, are you required to take the action of the site? Can you instead ignore the action and collect the cubes then deploy a soldier or gain favor?

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As per page 6 of rulebook...
      Placing a Building and activating a site in a row/column are independent and distinct (so no need to place a building to activate but you must place a building if none exist on the chosen space)
      Generating resources is the following step which must happen and this might award resources to your opponents as well
      Finally, an action must be chosen from (so only ONE OF THESE):
      - Performing the action of the activated site
      - Gain favour
      - Deploy a soldier
      Finally if the Camel Market is in the row/column chosen this would also be an extra action which may be additionally taken before or after the action described in point 3 above.
      Essentially and in summary, one can activate a site and not take its main action but instead Gain favour OR Deploy a soldier

    This was really helpful! The Merv rulebook is not the greatest…

  • @henribcosta
    @henribcosta 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, Paul, great video!
    I have a quick question about deploying a soldier... As you said in 7:38 you can't put soldiers when the building is already protected byt walls. But in the following example the builind were not fully protected, as the mongols attack from both sides. With that I wonder if it was possible to deploy soldiers on the blue 1,4 or both yellow at the forth row...

    • @henribcosta
      @henribcosta 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the rulebook it says:
      "You cannot place a soldier on a building site that already has a soldier or an upgrade, or a site that is already protected from invasion by walls."
      What I get to understand is that even that building is behind one piece of wall it is not protected from invasion, because if the invasion was to occur the building would be destroyed...

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henribcosta Correct. If a building is protected from one side by a wall, it can still have a soldier placed on it, because it isn't COMPLETELY protected from walls.
