I'm Frisian and am always surprised about how much similarities there are with the Scottisch sound and intonation. The words, however, are seldom recognizable, so I don 't understand it.
Im a Scotsman and my partner's Frisian although they arent fluent, the similarities between the Scots language and Dutch and Frisian is very interesting.
I live in the USA, but 80% of my ancestors are all Scottish. I did a DNA test and tracked my heritage all the way back to Robert the Bruce. Not direct line or anything, but I'm amazed to be related at all. My ancestors came to America around the early 1800's
And by the way, yes, this is English. Officially. It's just a dialect. Oh but Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish are three separate languages despite being far more mutually intelligible than Scots and English. Don't be fooled, though. Scots speakers will understand you speaking English just fine. But it doesn't matter how slowly they speak, you'll never understand.

Just think about this for a sec. The lyrics are "Oh are ye sleeping, Maggie!?" Singing this would wake her up.
Well he's standing outside in the cold trying to wake her up, but not her father. 🤭

Scots is such a beautiful language... A far upgrade from English.
