Paul, this popped up on my screen and I had to hear this immediately! I hadn’t heard this in years, and the lyrics hit me in the gut just like it did when it was first released. A fantastic selection. Nice reaction guys!

"No I couldn't tell you what the hell those brakes were for..." is such a great lyric, and typical of Jackson's lyricism. If you have a chance to check him out, do so - I saw him very recently and his voice sounds as good as ever - and my first show of his was just about 50 years ago!

The bear (Golden Bear),Paradox and Rouge et Noir were small clubs JB played in when he was very young.

He does a live version during covid, I think. It's just Jackson, David Lindley and two young women playing drums and bass. It is a great version.

Nice request of a great artist and singer songwriter. I especially enjoy hearing listeners personal, and more private choices and not just the top hits. Reacting to The greatest hits albums is not very adventurous, this is more about sharing and risking something. Great reaction as always Nick and Lex.

So far you've almost only played songs by JB as he walked the fine line between commitment (musically and lyrically; Sky Black And Blue is terrific) and commercialism (formula pop). Looking East has both sides, typical 80s sound (drum machine or boring? howling keyboard instead of piano). Some Bridges and Alive In The World (piano version on Solo Accoustic also great) are my highlights.
You Lex in particular might be fascinated by his great songwriting album LATE FOR THE SKY 1974 (my “life-philosophical album”; loved by many fans), on the one hand very thoughtful lyrics, but such pleasant melodies, an album to immerse yourself in, but also to listen to casually like driving, jogging... Before Running On Empty, JB was retro for me (as a Central European I had to learn his lyrics!). Perhaps the songwriter introduction would be recommended with the previous album FOR EVERYMAN: the title track, the world-famous Take It Easy (written with Glenn Frey; a hit for The Eagles at the time), These Days and Red Neck Friend.
An American with common sense who has something to say and therefore encourages people to think, esp. necessary at this time!!! Have fun with all kind of good music.

Ya'll are Joni Mitchell fans too. You may know that Jackson and Joni were an item in the early 1970s. Breakup didn't go too well however. They did write songs about each other.
I lived for the next Jackson Browne album in the 1970s. He is probably my favorite artist from the decade, which is a high bar since the 70s produced so many legends (whom I love too). But I must confess that I kinda lost track of his music afterward. Life moves on. Jobs demand one's time. I didn't know this song. I love it.
I did see Jackson in concert in the mid-80s in a huge basketball arena at the University of Illinois - Champaign/Urbana. I was way back in the crowd but it remains memorable.
Jackson is a top 10 member of the singer/songwriter club IMO, along with Dylan, Joni, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, James Taylor and Billy Joel

Personally I'd say that Bruce would be on that list, considering it was Bruce who inducted JB into the RRHOF.As to Joni and JB, my guess is that a great Deal of Court and Spark was about Jackson. She has admitted he was the subject of Car On a Hill, and likely the title cut as well.As for JB writing about Joni, most people assume that she is the girl in the photo in Fountain of Sorrow. Maybe even The Late Show? The whole Late for the Sky album is brilliant, and now that I think about it the title track is likely about Joni as well. For me the underrated gem off the album is Late Show, which Bruce refenced in his speech inducting JB into the RRHOF...

Jackson Browne has so many good songs that are deep cuts.
I'd like to suggest again Jackson's "Sleeps Dark And Silent Gate" - a beautiful melancholy song that he stopped performing since it was inspired by a loss. You can do either the studio audio from album "The Pretender" or this excellent live radio performance: th-cam.com/video/nvvmAQzEQqQ/w-d-xo.html
BTW, it's coming up on 2 years in August since you did STYX(my favorite band). For suggestions see my comment on your last Styx marathon (hint: Check out my handle).

AGUANTE NICK Y LEX.

Bruce Cockburn would be good to check out live. I like “Tibetan Side of Town” and “Pacing The Cage” a lot. He’s really got it all as far as an excellent singer/songwriter, especially his skillful guitar playing.
