Can we just disable it?
I was surprised to see the Dynamic Island still feels so big (I'm on the Pro size). You can tell in some apps that haven't yet updated that the Dynamic Island does indeed reach lower than the previous notch (like in TH-cam search). I'm sure apps will redesign to accommodate for this, but as of now, it just seems more obtrusive than the previous notch.
I agree. i kinda hate it, and would rather have a smaller notch

I’m planning to get the iPhone 14 Pro Max but I’m visually impaired. How will the dynamic island work with voiceover?
Is the dynamic island also used whilst the iPhone is locked, when a phone call comes in? Or does then the „common“ slide-function pop up to answer the call?

Now with the dynamic island, is there more space for info like whether I am on VPN/Wifi/etc to be permanently displayed?

My biggest problem with DI is that it moves controls at the top. iOS 16 logic is to move your lock screen controls at the bottom, where they are easy to reach and at the same time moving controls up with DI.
Its nice for notifications but horrible desighn for implementing controls.

For music apps, it makes sense to tap to open the app since you can just change via Control Center. Or at least to me
Are there any type of settings for the dynamic island?
I picked up my pro max today at ups and have been using it for a few hours now and will say I like the dynamic island so far but don’t love it. Maybe when more apps get on board I’ll find it more useful. I keep wanting to press it and nothing happens except it gets bigger than shrinks. I hope in a future update they allow you to assign an app to it. It would make sense to me that it would open up the front camera for quick selfie photos without having to open the camera app then reverse the camera.

I just bought mine yesterday, I had the iPhone 12 before. The island is ok but really it feels like I bought the practically the same phone except for the Island and a better camera. Not sure it is worth the crazy price. Also, when you set up the camera it asks for you to potential put a permanent filter. Although I am sure you can change it in the settings after it seems odd. Why would I want all my photos to have a particular filter.
This is very frustrating. I just picked up a New iphone pro max and I took a picture next thing I know I swiped up to get back to the home screen and now all my Apps and wall paper are HUGE and I can not navigate back to the original size or home screen? I have been fiddling with this dynamic island and it seems not to be responding? Any Suggestions?
The way it does incoming calls when you’re using the phone is nice, but I’d still go back to the notch if this is the most it can do. It’s kinda like a strange black hole on my screen in the middle of the app. At least with the notch, there wasn’t a space above it, when you hit it, that was the end, and I don’t think it took away near as much of the screen as the pill does.

My dynamic island will not open with a long hold on my new iPhone 14 Pro Max. I can see a music app running, but cannot open to the app. What am I missing?

I'm 100% sure that either next year or 2024, Apple will most likely put the Dot projector from FaceID under the display and make the pill smaller but it'll result in the Dynamic Island UI make it possible to have two "dots" on the right so you can have 3 actions at the same time.
I think inevitably it will disappear and right now is just a quick sell for this years iPhone and it’ll stick around for a few years but once Apple figures out a way to build the hardware under the screen dynamic island can be solely a software feature to enable or disable. I do like it for now but imagine it will not be around too many years. I just wonder if that’s why they threw it in the pro model at the last minute because I’m seeing screen protectors and marketing online for the pro max with the pill and hole punch shape. I went from the 12 max to this but in all honestly I could have waited another year because there were no significant hardware upgrades and I think the island was a last minute add that couldn’t get into all the phones this year. While I don’t mind the island, it’s definitely not something that was the tipping point to buy the 14 pro, it was the camera upgrades since I was coming from the 12 pro.
I doubt it. Unlike Android, iPhones infamously keep their latest tech for several generations until the 'fad' gets 'boring'. For example the iPhone X was the first one to have a notch back in 2017 and that was 5 years ago. Android on the other hand come up with new ideas almost every year. And it takes years before it comes to iPhone. For example while folding phones are still new, iPhones won't follow suit until they find ways to improve it like no creases and that can take many years.
Agreed. Definitely a scalable design to work for any "notch" changes over the next few years.
@@rstein926 and yet we had the iPhone 13 dude. That's when Apple made the Notch noticeably smaller and yet they changed it again after just one year.
Sure I also think that the current design will be identical next year. But I definitely could see Apple making the pill narrower with the 15 Pro and then expand the functionality of the dynamic island this way.
By 2024 all of Face ID will be under the display.
Hi I got the I phone 14 pro max it was a upgrade from the XR so I am excited and dynamic Island is cool one thing I feel apple should allow you to do create a contact from Siri like those times where you are in a rush and you don’t have time to add number so you just speak it and it saved

It’s not doing anything for me out of the bit and I just got it today I play TH-cam and go to the home and tap and hold dynamic island and it does nothing

I got the 14 Pro today. I can confirm no but that’s a great idea, to at least get the notification or the photo of the sender since the entire text probably wouldn’t fit

why does the island move really jelly-like and bouncy on his phone but not on my 14 pro?
Just got my 14 pro max. Don’t really notice the DI. It seems to function rather well when in use.
the phone call sound speaker is so small and barely noticeable.
My parents still have their iPhone X's and we all think it's time to upgrade. I'm on the fence, as I should be, about upgrading but I own a base 12 model. It does have some damage, my fault entirely, but that Dynamic Island looks very delicious
I think IPhone 15 will be a good for upgrade , you need only patient for good deal.
if yoo still have an X a deeply discount 13 or even 12 will be a significant upgrade.
I just upgraded from 11, and I'm loving it! Love the always on display, the MUCH brighter display when out in bright sunshine, like the pill (especially the privacy spots which he didn't even mention in the video!), and the macro function is really neat! I also switched to the eSim option which was painless and very nice as I can add a sim for work as well now and use a single phone without having to use an android which I hate.

I think long pressing makes sense if you compare to the functionality of the home screen. You tap to open the app or long press for interaction without opening it...
Okey, cool idea but keep touching it, wouldn’t create oily finger dirt over the front camera sensor and when you decide to use the front camera photos will be maybe blurry.
Just wipe it before you take a picture 🤷♂️ If you don’t have a cloth handy you can wipe it on your clothing.

I just got my iPhone 14 pro max but don’t think my island is working . It only makes the phone vibrate and little and that’s it

I just cracked my XS Max yesterday and had no idea the launch was today when I went to the apple store to get it fixed. It was so busy they wouldn't let me in so I decided to order one and get to find out if I like it tomorrow!

@@colddogs Verizon is giving me $800 for my XS Max with a cracked screen. I preordered the 512 gb 14 Pro Max and my phone bill is only going up $15 a month.
The iPhone will come in the mail next month, it was too good of a deal to pass up!
Got 14 pm sg. I like the dynamic island but just like others, I wish the touch implementation was the reverse. Touch to open widget and long press to deep dive in app. Other than that. I’m excited for the upcoming additional features

Absolutely NO .
Tapping on the pill doesn’t open that expanded widget view; it just switches you back to whatever app that controls the widget. To get the expanded widget that’s shown in all the ads, you have to tap and hold. This feels exactly backwards to me.
I think they did this because their UI is long press to get info. Like Haptic Touch so they can keep it consistent.
If you want it ONLY because the calls won’t disturb you while using the phone
I can tell you that even my iPhone 6s does that.
But if you’re getting it for all of the other features as well then yeah sure go ahead and buy it.
One-hand operation is hard on the dynamic island. I have to move my hand all the way up. I think, Apple still doesn't have the technology to take good pics with a punch-hole camera left alone under the display. So they came up with this.
The dynamic island size is so tiny to give easy click experience when used .
Although apple bionic processor is undefeatable but with all due respect apple hasn’t introduced any new user relevant advantages since iPhone 11
I’ve been an iPhone user since iPhone 4 - i used every model ever after but unfortunately apple innovation curve is in its lowest state currently

You didn't mention the neat privacy spots that appear between the lens and the sensors.
Couple of things why text message notifications don’t come through the dynamic island is a complete mystery to me. All notifications should display in the dynamic island. A text message should pop up just like a phone call does and if you don’t read it within a few seconds it should shrink down to a thin dynamic island at the top of the display which reads your text message along the top of the screen
Secondly, I much prefer the look of the i shape it is really annoying that this is actually the default of the phone, but they hide it with software. They should give us the ability to turn off the pixels in between the cut outs.
Being able to turn off the pixels in between the cutouts would solve the dynamic island in daylight problem
because there are no pixels over cameras. The pill is always black. Text message notifications with DI would imply a hole in the text
It would be interesting if you use the "Dynamic Island using dark mode on iPhone".
Seems a pretty minor feature and not something I'd rush out and spend hundreds for at all. Fair enough they've tried to make a virtue out of necessity by creating an actual feature there.

Looks great. I would love to trade in my iPhone 13 Pro but I can’t justify doing so given how long I’ve had it and how much Apple would give me despite being in excellent condition. Guess I’m waiting a few years lol

Funny how many TH-cam reviewers listen to music while using a timer at the same time.. Funny how they've never mentioned it before? I guess since I don't listen to music or use the timer on my Iphone the dynamic island is useless.
It's actually quite common. That's because you can set a timer to stop the music automatically. I use this pretty much every single day.
@@Raja995mh33 I really really wish apple would add a sleep timer to Apple Music already… like it’s so dumb that Spotify is better than Apple Music in many ways. Apple knows it too. I just switched to Spotify and love the playlist and interface, however I still use Apple Music as its part of Apple one subscription

For example. you have a three-hour long timer running. Are you sure, you want this huge pill up there all this time? An intrusive black hole in the middle of your screen estate? What people forget, the dead zone is still there. And it is even made larger by the notifications. Only Apple can make people believe that this is a brilliant feature. Must be fun, watching videos, pictures, and playing games...
In the distant future apple will make the "hole" as small as it is in my Xiaomi and will say: Your productivity was never as important as now, see the new micro island!!!

like 3D Touch it will be ignored by developers then abandoned by Apple and later it will be disappeared in silence.

The tapping and holding down function is so counter-intuitive and bad from a usability point of view. Hopefully it gets reversed (and fast), with the next firmware update.
Really stupid idea like the Touch Bar, this is made just because they can’t remove the notch, so when they finally remove the notch, that functionally will gone!
I skipped all iphone models since the 10 because of the notch. It looks like I will never buy an iphone again. Compared to this monstrosity even the notch seems discreet now.

Dynamic island honestly sucks. It draws way too much attention to itself and it’s kinda useless. I returned my 14 pro and went back to my 13 pro.
The D.I. does next to nothing. Once you have tried it you will realise how disappointing it is. Not only that but it’s lower on the screen and is annoyingly visible on full screen video mode. It’s so bad I’m staying with my 13 pro max till all notches are dead and buried.

Samsung's notification bar can do all of this so this is just a fancy black notification bar that is called an 'island' which just proves that apple consumers will buy anything
