    Batman (1989) Movie Review: 1989's Batman paved the way for modern comic book films as we know it, changing the movie landscape in Hollywood when it comes to comic book adaptations. In 1989, Tim Burton brought a fresh take to the iconic superhero with his film, "Batman". The movie starred Michael Keaton as the title character and Jack Nicholson as the infamous Joker. This film promised to offer a unique and dark perspective on the beloved character, and for the most part, it delivered. Keaton offered a new take on the character with a more lighthearted approach, providing some much needed comic relief to balance out the darkness of the film. The cast was fantastic, with Keaton and Nicholson bringing their A-game to their respective roles. Although the script had its flaws, it was still entertaining and kept audiences engaged. The special effects and costume design were top-notch, showcasing the technological advancements of the time. Overall, "Batman (1989)" is a must-watch for fans of the franchise and provides a different take on the Dark Knight. While it may not be the darkest or most serious installment in the series, it still holds its own as an entertaining and unique film.
    What is your Batman 1989 movie review? Did you love it? Hate it? You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight? Let us know in the comments!

    When this came out, the only thing to compare it to was the 60’s TV show. I still prefer this Batman. “Highlander,” “The Lost Boys,” and “Iron Eagle” are three great 80’s soundtracks. Jack Nicholson chews up every scene. No Joker has ever done the manic thing like Nicholson’s.

    Love this movie no matter what, this was my first super hero movie that I saw in theaters. I watched every Batman movie in the theaters, until they got to Affleck Batman. This and Batman Returns are both 5 star movies for me.

    You guys are correct regarding "Star Wars" back end deals, and Lucas gave Sir Alec Guinness a lotta love (relatively speaking) on percentages due to the fact that the was the highest profile actor in the film at the time of release in '77.
    One note: Alex was a little off on his inflation-adjusted calculation for this film's box office total in 2023 dollars, considering that "Superman" hit the streets a little over a decade prior to "Batman." $411 million in 1989 dollars would be a little under a billion in this year's dollars.

    I was stationed at Yokota AB, Japan when this movie came out in the States. We kept hearing about how amazing this film was, so six months after its release, it came to Japan. Some buddies and I took the train to some suburb of Tokyo playing the movie. I remember it cost something like ¥1,300 for a ticket (~$10 then, ~$24 today), which was an INSANE amount of money for someone only making a few thousand dollars a year. And that's not counting train fare, or the cost of getting lunch at some McDonald's.
    The movie did NOT live up to the hype for me, although seeing the Japanese subtitles on the right side of the screen was pretty amusing (my first time seeing that). I remember walking out of the theater, depressed as all get out because I felt I'd wasted splurge money on something that was a rental at best.

      @@DutchButters Don't get me wrong -- I like the movie today. But back in the day, the disappointment was real because it didn't live up to the insane hype. So forking out the money I did was a "I could have bought another video game with this" moment. 😂

    Excellent review. My personal favorite movie soundtrack was from the year 2000, Coyote Ugly. I have the CD from that soundtrack. I took the Batman 1989 , Dark Knight 2008 Challenge. I do agree that the films have many similarities until the final resolution of the 2008 Movie. I still love this movie and I confess that in 1988 I did not think Keaton could do it, but he really was a great Batman. I would say that I was furious with the reveal of who killed Bruce Wayne's Parents. I felt that was not acceptable. The whole "No Kill" issue started with the Animated Series and then the Nolan Movies. It was ridiculous. in the 2012 Movie Batman had the chance to kill Bane in the opening act and he failed. I agree the No Kill issue is a joke

    I think the Prince music fit Joker well as a stark contrast to Elfman representing Batman. Joker is wacky and comic booky but also sick and twisted inside while batman is dark moody intimidating but heroic and caring on the inside

    @alex, I’m surprised kadish didn’t know! But there was a supposed Batman Beyond movie in the works prior to the staff shift. I could be wrong about it before confirmed but I’m fairly certain Keaton was supposed to be the Bruce for that movie!

    I still remember how bad I wanted to see this film. My dad took me and I loved it! Damn near wore out my VHS when it hit video. Is it dated now? Yes. Does the story not really have any direction or character arcs? There's no direction or arcs. But regardless of that the style and Keaton's dark performance and Nicholson's zany dark psychotic joker give Batman 89' it's iconic status. But this movie does have some dark sinister undertones in it. So it is dark, but I think the goofiness comes from the time period in which it was made.

    @cybersonic8472 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks! I almost agree with everything Kadish said except for comparison to Dark Knight that to me is one of worst batman movie to date. Heath Ledger is not the Joker in that movie hes a glorified criminal Minds season finale villain and not worthy of batman's time. Alex take frustrates me the most because he talks about Mark Hamill Joker but that's pretty much Animated Jack Nicholson Joker. Hamill's joker dances to wierd music and does TV infomercials in the Animated series. This is the best live action Batman movie and I'm still waiting for them to make one that best it and am constantly disappointed
