This is why I love impulseJP's videos. Even though the human (or youkai, lol) character models are have a bit lower quality than most 3D counterparts, their movements are just awesome. The music is also really good and fitting that I'm usually unable to think of it without imagining its counterpart animation.

This is missing something, that amazing KO sound every touhou fighting game has
Old comment, but I just felt the need to mention that regardless of it being a major hit or a small hit doesn't matter in Danmaku you know, it's a "playful game" after all. And taking a few hits regardless of size is the same as being out.
Only reason the Utsuho fight wasn't like that, was because Utsuho threw away the rules completely.
That's why most of them use spell cards that spreads danmaku over a wide area. Discounting Marisa cause she likes large danmaku.

Personally i think the sheer sense of speed and appearance of force from both Marisa and her Master Spark weighs up for the lack of hits overall. I mean, the few times they throw up theirs shields here I actually feel like a real hit was averted; while Reimus's cards did seemingly little towards Utsuho. Theirs was a battle of attrition, while this one is more of a "one shot, one kill" kinda deal.

While I see your point, you still cannot deny the amount of bullets Aya puts out regardless. If you recall, Dogfight matched Utsuho's spellcards pretty well.

I can't even begin to imagine what kind of camera Aya uses that has such an incredible shutter speed.
It does say something about Aya's speed when Marisa has to use Master Spark boosters on her broom to catch her.
It seems like this fight was a test of speed between Marisa and Aya compared to the dogfight where both Reimu and Utsuhos attacks were more powerful and explosive. Marisa is the fast in terms of movement speed in the games.

I agree. I mean during the Blossom/ 3D dogfight it was acceptable that there was less danmaku. mostly because of the particular characters that were involved. Marisa and Aya have no excuse. This needs more bullets.

Marisa & Aya must have some of the hardest heads in Gensokyo.
Just think, after she spends a fun day flying around fighting on her broom, Marisa goes home and sweeps the dirt out of her house with it!
Marisa's broom had a lot of impact on Momji's face, though.
So despite all her flashy danmaku patterns, Marisa ends up defeating both Aya and Momiji...by direct physical contact.
Mudspike, of all the 3D Touhou videos I've seen, yours have the best dogfight choreography bar none. Also, nice reference to the YF-19 vs YF-21 fight from Macross plus at the end.
I can see MinusT contesting that claim.

Gensokyo appears to be a provincial, back-woodsy kind of place where the average human has nothing to do but watch the rice grow & the average fairy or yokai has nothing to do but play pranks on the humans (or acquire worship from them). The play fighting just breaks the monotony.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is about the explosions. It seems like this battle was much more about speed and evasiveness. 99 percent of the attacks didn't even hit anything really.

@nicolasmonoxd One is a Tengu reporter (And reporters don't normally get involved in violence anyways) and one is a Hell Raven who swallowed the power of Nuclear Fusion. Tad bit of a difference, I'll admit.
What do you expect from Marisa who uses things like Master Spark against Momiji who uses sword and Aya who is just playing around?
It feels more like a Disgaea battle than a Touhou one....

I know Reimu is supposed to be the "skill" and Marisa the "power", but I cant help but think that this guys portrayal of the two is accurate. Reimu vs Okuu was all about the power and heavy hitting, where Marisa vs Momiji and Aya is more about the raw speed and evasion skills of the fighters.
