    A few days ago, I showed "Millennium Actress" to my mom and she was so impressed by it because all she thought anime was was the stuff my sister and I watched when we were little. No matter how many times I try to explain how there are vastly different anime/manga, I guess you truly just have to show it.

    Watched Perfect Blue the other night. It's one of the only films I've seen where I wanted to re-watch it immediately after finishing it, there's so much re-watch value.

    You absolutely played it right with Redline at #4.
    It's like something out of a daft punk music video. Absolutely love the art style.

    • @ricemenarq6230
      @ricemenarq6230 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Akira is a purely VISUAL experience. You wouldn't understand shit the first time watching (unless you read the Manga) it because they throw so much plot at you at the last half of the movie.

    • @aricornejo
      @aricornejo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@ricemenarq6230 Ill have to disagree It's not just eye candy, it wasn't just an anime that served as a gateway to new Anime fans in the states, it was a Masterpiece.

      @@asura8236 Agreed really artistic and fun to watch they did a great job world building, but plot is incredibly simple and the characters feel utterly predictable one is trying to save his friend the other is power hungry you have some love interests some purely bad guys a very simple formula

    Some Anime films that I enjoy that follow the 2 stipulations you set out Bob that weren't mentioned in this video are:
    Your Name, Summer Wars, A Silent Voice, Patema Inverted, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Journey to Agartha, A Letter to Momo, The Princess and the Pilot, Hal, Into the Forest of Fireflies' Light, Origin: Spirits of the Past and The Little Norse Prince.

    Great video Bob! thank you for this list, I just added 9 of the movies you mentioned to my list, seems like there are a lot of good movies I haven't watched yet!
    Btw there are a few movies not mentioned in the video that I recommend (following your rules of course):
    -Barefoot Gen (a very disturbing classic movie about Hiroshima in WW2.
    -Kara no Kyoukai.
    -Final Fantasy VII Advent Children (I don't know if you have to play the game, but I didn't, and I still loved the movie).
    -Persona 3 (I'm a big fan of the game, but I recommend the movies even if you haven't played it).
    -Afro Samurai (it's an action packed samurai movie, similar to Samurai Champloo in a way).

    • @bobsamurai
      @bobsamurai  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Diablo Mask thanks! Yea I've seen final fantasy and Afro samurai but iirc Afro was the conclusion to the story. Haven't seen the rest of these movies though

    • @Diabl0Mask
      @Diabl0Mask 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BobSamurai Anime Reviews Afro's second movie was disappointing, but the first movie had really good action.
      I highly recommend Barefoot Gen btw, it has very good animations for a movie from the 80s.

    Great video! Still haven't seen like a half of these, but I'm gonna ad them to my list. Here's some of my favourite anime movies that weren't included:
    - Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Overture to a New War (a solid movie and a better introduction to the series than the first episodes)
    - Patlabor 2 (a 10/10 movie about imagined cold war in Japan, can't believe you didn't mention it, perfect for fans of stuff like Jin Roh for example)
    - Robot Carnival (a crazy artistic journey through different themes and styles, not much of a story in it but the animation and creativity makes up for it)
    - Belladonna of Sadness (a milestone in 70s anime, a melancholic, solemn but also very disturbing masterpiece)
    - Trigun: Badlands Rumble (for fans of western who haven't yet decided if they want to watch the 1998 Trigun series, fun action comedy that might encourage you to check out the much better original)
    edit: Just realised how old this video is. Gonna leave the comment still, it might help somebody discover great pieces of art.

Same game play as Dirk the Daring. Ah-Ha! 😏But it was called "Cliffhanger!" Way shorter title huh? lol It had a silver ninja in the game,and from time to time he was the protagonist deuce ex machina with an awesome meme "Once again I slice a worthless object!",or maybe it was cut I forget,but it was items like freakin' Helicopters!" Man talk about trips down memory lane. Today your channel was my "Deuce Ex Machina!" I sub "Thank you!"

    Dagger of Kamui (1985) Forerunner and inspiration to Ninja Scrol. My pick for the best anime film as well as one of the best movies in general.

    Kakurenbo: Hide & Seek is pretty good, I liked it, and even though it requires previous watching of the series, The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya is just awesome,
