This episode solidified my thirst for vengeance and reminded me that I have the rage of Ivar within Poor Ragnar, he did not deserve that death. We must avenge him so that he may rest peacefully in Valhalla ⚔️
Speaking of age differences. A fun fact is that Millie Brady (Aethelflaed), Timothy Innes (Edward), and Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith) are all the same age (born 1993). David Dawson (Alfred) and Alexander Draymon (Uhtred) or both about 10 years older than them. The whole series covers quite a long period of time though so actor ages are bound to be way off at times.
Pretty soon in the next 100 years, the Saxons and Danes will be interbred enough to form a new hybrid upper class. This cycle happened multiple times in English history with new invaders.
I mean, TBF, the age-gap between Uhtred and Aethelflaed isn't as drastic as it seems at first. Uhtred was in his late teens when he arrived in Winchester (somewhere around 17-19) and Aethelflaed was about (9-11) so there is around a 10 year age-gap between them, which is not that drastic especially not in these times. Then add in the fact that they're both grown now and have known each other for going on two decades now.
Ahh yes okay fair, I guess the age gap just looks bigger because you don't really see Uthred's actor age, but you literally see Aethelflaed go from child to adult. But of course there have been a lot of time jumps so it makes sense what you're saying.
@@LarissaZeeuweOh absolutely. It's a bit frustrating that they never tell us the exact ages of the characters so I reacted exactly the same as you on my first watch 😅. It wasn't until rewatches and watching reactions that I realised that they're closer in age than it seems. I also find it interesting that Aethelflaed is pursuing Uhtred at this point in time because now that she's older, their lives share some striking similarities. They both know what it's like to be leaders, both militarily and politically. They're both parents. They both care for and have an interest in protecting Wessex and England as a whole. They both care for Alfred but don't necessarily agree with everything he does. They've both loved and lost good partners. I think she might have had a bit of a crush on him for a while (though that is definitely up for interpretation) but for the first time, she feels the confidence to approach him on relatively equal footing. And he has also proven how much he cares for her, because he will put himself in all sorts of compromising positions to ensure her safety. She's probably also thinking that if he's moved on enough after Gisela's death to be all cozy with Skade, she may as well shoot her shot now 😂.
I think they switched actresses to show the passing of age for Aethelflaed. Shes actually roughly ten years younger than Uhtred. Definitely a difference but not as huge as it seems. On s1 uhtred was like 18-20. And she was 9-11. Chronologically she's of age at this point. And i guess if she wants to be with him thats her choice. I probably wouldnt go with someone older than 5 or six years older than me max. But that's just my preference.
Yes, for me personally it just feels kind of weird to eventually date someone you knew while they were around 10 and literally still a little kid, while you were around 20. It is indeed totally okay if they start dating about 10 years later, but for me that was also just a personal thing too that I think would feel weird. But you're absolutely right, if they both want to be with each other now, it's their own choice indeed.
@@LarissaZeeuwe I mean, poor girlie is also married. Her top priority would need to be a man who she's absolutely certain would not betray her and their secret. Kind of slim pickings there 😂
@@LarissaZeeuwe Yeah, in the same way you felt it was weird that Uhtred and and Breda were together after growing up together. That sort of thing was really common until modern times though as most people lived their whole lives in villages of hundreds of people (At this point in history only a few percent of the population lived in urban areas). It's like going to a small high school and staying in the town with all those same people till you died. You either grew up together or had a big enough age gap that you didn't. Even then you likely had seen them in passing as a child or knew an older family member unless you had moved to that town later on. It was also very likely your spouse was your cousin, even if only second or third cousin, which we would also find weird today. In the books, her and Uhtred are 14 years apart BTW, and I think she's in her upper 20s at this point.

That Ragnar death is one of the most shocking deaths ive ever seen in any show. I dont think anyone saw it coming

@@LarissaZeeuwe That's one of my only beefs with this series is they don't age up Uhtred enough. They keep him way too young and pretty looking.
I'm first 🥇 Aethelwold is getting on my nerves but I still love/hate him
