- Road Trip to Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh
A road trip from Ghaziabad to Dharamshala is an exciting journey that spans approximately 550 kilometers and takes around 10 to 12 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Starting at 10:40 PM, the drive sets the tone for an adventurous night under the stars, with the anticipation of reaching the serene hills of Dharamshala in the morning.
The journey begins with the bustling streets of Ghaziabad fading into the background as you hit the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. The highway is well-maintained, making for a smooth start. The first few hours are relatively easy, with minimal traffic, and the night sky overhead offers a sense of calm as you leave the urban chaos behind. You pass through the industrial towns of Uttar Pradesh, with a few small, sleepy villages along the way, their lights twinkling faintly in the distance.
Around 2 AM, after crossing the state border into Haryana and then entering Punjab, you stop for a quick break at a roadside dhaba. A hot cup of tea and some parathas provide much-needed warmth and energy for the road ahead. As you continue on the NH44, the route begins to get more scenic. The early morning fog slowly lifts, revealing the outlines of the Shivalik hills in the distance, signaling your approach to the foothills of the Himalayas.
By dawn, the car climbs into the lower hills, and the air grows noticeably cooler. The winding roads become more challenging, but the picturesque landscapes of terraced fields, small towns, and riverside views make it worth the effort. The road narrows as you approach Kangra, the district where Dharamshala is located, and the steep ascents make the journey a bit slower.
As you cross the town of Palampur, the last stretch of the drive takes you through dense forests and narrow mountain roads. You catch glimpses of the first light of day as the sun begins to rise, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. At around 9:30 AM, after a long but rewarding drive, you finally arrive in Dharamshala. The cool mountain air greets you as you wind your way through the charming streets of the town, ready to embrace the tranquility of the Himalayas after a night of adventure.
