    The biggest problem with D3 RoS is that there is no player driven character customization (no build diversity - at least in the endgame) because you get funneled into very specific builds by massively overpowered sets that only buff certain skills.
    There is also the issue that greater rifts give significantly more loot and XP than anything else in the game and are therefore ultimately the only thing that you do in the endgame.
    And besides that, the itemization is not really good because it is very, very, streamlined.

    I understand where you're coming from, but I always thought, because of all this, Diablo 3 was a good, maybe even great game by itself, but there's just the problem of that little "3" at the end. It's a good game, but a bad sequel.

      Jerry C weird... I wonder why the sells were sooo good, but finding a full match of FOUR people is near impossible.

      Xeytrix , maybe it's because you're not that good at the game (I'm not trying to rip on you but I can easily find a match of 4 people on t10 and above and I'm just a casual player)

      Oh jesus. Well if you want to go there, ill say that it was a TERRIBLE sequel lol

    • @mutilatorjuice4642
      @mutilatorjuice4642 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly remastering it is extremely difficult. Quite a few have tried and it isn't the same. Those old mechanics don't work with newer technology and the game play is severely affected. Hopefully someday someone will get it right.

    "... but i have really been enjoying Diablo 3 the past few days" and being paragon 171 => Two things that makes me think you probably played for 5 days or less, that's the problem with your review imo, you should have done your review after some weeks of play when you are close to reaching your max gear except for some primal ancient here and there.
    I have been in your situation, yeah the game is ton of fun at the beginning, no one is denying that, but it only lasts for like 1 or 2 weeks maximum then it looses all his purpose really quick when you understand the game actually consists of doing the exact same thing over and over (nephalem and rift which are nearly identical thing).
    Diablo 2 on the other hand can make you addicted for years, it's just so much deeper and meaningful overall for many obvious reasons I won't list there.
    Can't blame you though, I have been in the exact same boat before, the game starts great but it ends up meh very fast. You will see in a few days when you reach that point, I promise.

      d2 isnt dead at al lol wat? l i thought id2 usually had way more players then d3 at the end of a ladder?

  • @SonofTolli
    @SonofTolli 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think that going into d3 having an open mind is huge coming from d2. I played d2 back when it first released and I was only about five or six (the nightmares I had were totally worth it imo lol), and when d3 released I was super excited as well, but after playing I think I was super critical as well, it wasn't anything like d2. However, the game has completely changed from what it was at vanilla. The hardest part to get over for myself was realizing that d2 and d3 may have the same name, but the games appeals to different audiences. D3 is more focused on the typical player being able to jump on for maybe an hour and feel rewarded for the time played, whereas d2 required many hours to feel accomplished.
    I loved d2, but I think my biggest gripe with it was that there wasn't enough customization. You want to play barbarian? Well you better know how you want to play that barb and how to allocate your skills before you hit Nightmare difficulty or you're screwed lol.
    I'm not saying d3 is perfect either, but I think with d3 it's totally more forgiving for not knowing what skills to use. In general though, I think d3 is meant to be more fun. It's meant to be a game that you jump on with some friends and shred some enemies, find some gear that might help you get better, and in general feel less stressed about gaming, but this is all just my two cents lol.

    Thanks for the video! Quick correction: rifts were always randomized, this was not a recent change:) They did undergo quite a few iteration to get to where they are today (map tile balancing, monster edits, method of acquiring rift keys etc.) but it was always a random composition of story mode maps.

  • @adamfisher8315
    @adamfisher8315 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    As someone who loves d2 and still goes back you should seriously give Path of Exile a chance. If you haven't already. If you have make sure to come back for the new 3.0 thats coming next month and give it another shot. D3 was not made by the same part of blizzard as d2 so they are sadly pretty different

      I always thought PoE was (besides the story, setting, and maybe classes) what Diablo III should have been, especially since D3 was originally planned to be an MMO.

    • @personalgao
      @personalgao 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know what's the worst part of PoE? ...is not the game. The game is Ok.
      But the community like you that goes to Diablo 3 videos and promote the game.
      Really, you can find this type of comment in every Diablo 3 video. I never go to PoE videos and promote D3.
      It blows my mind... if PoE is so good why don't you go and play it. Or watch PoE videos. Why are you here watching D3 videos still and talking about other game?
      Again PoE is fine but the community doing this shit is awful.

    • @adamfisher8315
      @adamfisher8315 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I didn't come here just for D3, I watch all of his D2 videos. D2 is a good game, so is PoE. But It just blows my mind that anyone still plays D3. D3 used to be a better game before the made a bunch of changes. That is why you see those comments, because universally almost everyone knows that D3 has gone to shit and the closest second to D2, which we know he likes, is PoE, not D3. When PoE is an game by an indie developer, that has its roots from D2, now surpassing D3's player base, it should be a sign to you that you will see these things. Its kind of ridiculous to think how far down hill D3 is from D2's success

    I'm glad you're looking at this game with such a steady head. So many people get so blinded by how much they love D2 that for whatever reason they think you either have to like D2 OR D3. You're able to enjoy both games and you're going to enjoy them for different reasons because they're different games made by different people. They simply aren't comparable games. D3 is a good, even great, game on its own. But by being the sequel to such a fantastic game and being so much different than its predecessor it creates a massive rift because people simply don't like change. Great video, my dude.

    My thoughts were always splitted about Diablo 3,but since i started playing it on Hardcore it changed a bit because you discovering a totally different Game in some way,also if you try to play not too safe.
    So you could say 4 me Hardcore Mode saved Diablo 3 from getting abandoned.
    I just play Seasons these Days,but thats ok.
    I still play more Diablo 2 because you simply have to think about much more Stuff and keep more in Mind (and still the Dark Athmosphere is better) ,but thats ok.
    Makes not a bad Game out of D3,just Different and more simple.
    Only thing i really dont like is the Hard Focus on getting to lvl 70 as fast as you can and the Game starts,thats too much MMO in Diablo for my Taste.

I enjoyed my time as well but 1 week and im running Greater rift 70 with a full set of ancients on hardcore mode . So 1 week and im basicaly done . Only upgrades i can find are perfect items , and i have about half of them already lol.

    To sum this up: "You should try it, but it's not D2, so don't expect D2. A lot of changes seem to make sense when put into context, but don't take what I say seriously. I can only stand by my own opinion for up to 15 seconds before throwing in a disclaimer".

    the biggest problem I had with Diablo 3 was the item system and lack of pvp. the item system makes D3 feel so boring. you never really have that feeling of joy when an item drops, like you did with D2. items don't feel rare, and they don't feel valuable, because realistically you're going to get the items you want in practically no time. in D2 you could MF for years and only see 1 of a particular item drop, and that was a crazy feeling. nothing in D3 makes you feel any sort of emotional attachment, and that's the problem.

    Unfortunately, Diablo 3 Reflectiin destroyed Vanilla in early 2020. Masochists had such a hard time creating a project just to destroy it, just like Blizzard and Worgamining. Yes, I wish I could play it. Why I didn't find out about it 3 years ago :(

    D3 progression is great you feel you have so many tools at your disposal however in the end it comes down to farming death breath in order to upgrade rare items at a chance to get an ancient/ primal and farming rifts to level up some op gems. After you get some ancients you will invest some money and more death breath to reroll some stats. Diablo 3 had to continue the story ( i am sorry but the story and lore is just amazing in d1/d2 ) and expand on the game. A sequel needs to be fresh and familiar at the same time thats why its a great task to undertake but D3 went 180 on everything and not in a good way.

    For everyone back there that says Diablo 3 is shit, if you look on meta critic, the review of the critics is very good, but the review of the players are bad. Well that's because, diablo 3 didn't keep the old mechanics of diablo 2, that's all. Maybe if Blizzard had released this game with another title, maybe it wouldn't get so much hate. Diablo 3 is a good game, especially with ros expansion. If you don't agree, just shut up, but please don't start crying of like "Diablo 3 is the worst game" because it's not.

    Very interesting review here xtimus. Has a player of d2 and d3 I think you brought a lot of good points about d3 making me realising that d3 is actually a fun game to play even if you obviuously get bored of it after a couple weeks of intense gaming.
    Since repaer of souls I have played all the season gettin to the real end game difficulty (reached solo grift lvl 78) and just getting there has so much more fun stuff to do compared to d2 that is always mfing on ur own or following some random botters run wich is very sad. Just because of that I'll buy the necro pack that I wasent too sure about and I'll play him when the new season restart on thursday. I don't understand how people judge stuff in life without really getting into it.

    But doing it in 10 minutes is just fucked lol.
    All those spells and talents and stuff..... Your supposed to earn them lol and learn how to use them as you level.
    Reminds me of people who play wow but hate leveling characters. Lol lern to enjoy the ride, jeesus.
    Life is not a destination.

    After playing all the dragon ages i've got this itch I think diablo might help scratch. considering I played the DAs in the follwing order
    A bit of inquisition
    1 (2 playthroughs, and all DLC)
    2 (1 playthrough, and all dlc)
    inquisition
    1 (2 uncompleted playthroughs)
    inquistion (played the DLCs in the same chracter and started a new one, haven't finished xD)
    1 (2 uncompleted playthoughs)
    considering that, should I play diablo 1 through 3, or just start at a particular order?

    • @matyasneilinger906

      NoTLucas every Diablo game is a different experience, for the story you might play D1-D2-D3 but U can also read up what happened if you are interested in it.
      D1 is a simpler game comoared to D2 or even D3 but it has the best atmosphere (for me) fir gameplay I also really like it, sometimes I sit down and play the HD mod (i can't run the original game because I have a newer OS) but I really like the game still
      Diablo 2 was my first game I have ever played and Oh My Gosh I'm still in love with that game... the story the setting the gameplay the community the secrets... it just keeps people excited to play D2 to this day and it isn't for no reason, d2 is one of the very best games that has been made if U like the Action RPG gamestyle, and is also good for newcomers.
      D3 on the other hand is often reffered as the downhill of the Diablo series... as in other comments U could read D3 isnt a bad game it's just different, the only disappointment I have with d3 is the story but the isnt too bad either, just as a Diablo fan I didnt like it that much, but the gameplay is really addictive and yes the game starts after U reach level 70 like an MMO but there are so many friendly players who would like to help you get to level 70 in some hours (even I if you would need the help) that this is no problem, yes, when the game came out it wan't perfect but whit tje patches the expansions that came out I really think that D3 is a really great game, it isnt like D2 but isnt a bad game either.
      Its Ur call in which irder do you want to play them, if U'r really interested in a story and dont mind the old game mechanics if the first game then U should play tehm in order but if Ur for the gameplay U should try all of them and then choose which one fits Ur playstyle, if you become a Diablo fan then U will play all of them eventually :)

    there's so many things that disapointed me about d3. Probably top dumbest is the first thing you mentioned the game just becoming about playing the 'end game' ... yeah but that's true for any game but guess what then you gett bored quicker... Games are suppose to take time to beat. then it's about leveling 'paragon' ... wtf? I wish they would have done it like in d2 where you play normal, beat it, nightmare, then hell. I would level up so quick I would hardly even look at what I had unlocked... so unfulfilling.
    And then that brings me to multiplayer in general... you can't choose the game you want to go into? What were they thinking... you just have to keep leaving and joining till you get a group that you like... or play in the same game as a friend? furthermore why didn't they bring in more multiplayer minigame type events in general... like huge group of team competing against another huge team like a capture the flag type of game would have been epic. PVP was always a joke in d2, you think they would have put more effort in d3. I can't even find anyone that is doing pvp that's how shit it is.... I don't get why they didn't just make 'boxing style' pvp where you fight only with the champion no equiptment.
    Anyway... I've had fun playing d3 but it could have been so much more, it's such a dead game nowadays. Sad.

    It's not the environment colors and ambience but the monsters and the spells/abilities... Too colored, too many effects and bright colors... Too many unecesary effects that I'd rather take out. If I were able to mod Diablo 3 I'd just remove many things, make it slower paced and much simplier. I'll get the monsters with 300% more life, 100% chance to hit and artificial inteligence... So you will have to fight and kill them with tactics and not just crushing and desintegrating monsters you can't even see what they were and how they looked... But many other ARPG are full of fireworks and unecessary effects... Diablo should remove those... I don't think someone will be upset if a major Diablo 3 update will just remove those...

    D3 sucks not because of gameplay but because of homogenized items. Its all about sets and legendaries and rares have no place. Most everyone stacks main stat crit and cool down or whatever. Theres little to no originality and customization. There is no real item hunt.

      I like when Blizzard doesn't listen to what people say but instead watch how people play, talk, and engage with the game. You can say whatever you want but you are still here interested in Diablo, watching patches and probably keep playing the game.
      In the other hand, we can all agree that Diablo 2 is amazing, but how many players are actually playing that game now? of course, it's an old game but I'm trying to show you that what you say and do not always match.

      we are not watching d3 videos :D and not that there are many of them ;) we are watching D2 videos and Xtimus specifically, if he talks about d3 - its interesting because its Xtimus, d3 its as trash of a game as it was 3 years ago. Blizzard North is not Blizzard, stop praising Blizzard for Diablo - all they did is fuck it up (thanks Jay ;)
      Play the real squeal to D2, install Poe and spend some time on the game, its overwhelming at first sure, but its the closest thing to the D2 phenomenon to date ;)

      Investment of time is something that can be used as an addition to a great game to make it even greater.
      A shitty game that requires you to invest a lot of time will make the game even shittier. A great game that requires you to invest a lot of time will make the game even greater. A shitty game that DOES NOT require you to invest a lot of time will make the game a little better at first, but then suck in the long run because there was no sense of investment - this is what keeps people playing rather than little A.D.D. boys who quit after a few hours or weeks.
      People largely don't mind spending days, or weeks, trading to get that one really great item in D2 because D2 is already an amazing game and when you get that item it makes it even all the more worth it.
      So gtfo you fanboy noob and learn to think for once.

    Diablo 2 looks like shit in 2017 ... but it's the best H & S I have ever played in my life. PoE is almost similar, say 70%

    D3, hate the story, love the game. It's not D2 and that's ok.

    D3 is crap in so many ways it's embarassing. No matter how some try to sugarcoat it it's a crap game. D2 is a near perfect game, D3 is well, far from it. I really have to be forced to play it again. I don't really understand why one has to try to like a game or convince himself that it is good

    The game sucks because of the gear progression it will never be d2 you could play d2 come back ten years later and your gear will be useful not in d3

      Diablo is about getting the better loot, so changing gear is normal right? Also enjoy the bots destroying D2 along side other things.

    Play Path of Exile ... it's origin is based around d2. In fact it is a d2 clone. On top of that it reached a point where it is the best in its genre even better then d2.

    It sure IS a good game. But on the long run D3 just don't hold well. It's just too easy for that. Also the lack of community driven systems (trade, lobbys, etc etc) kills the lifetime of the game. D3 feels lonely, more of a singleplayer experience than what D2 offers. I recognize there are lots of people that like D3, but D2 is far superior on the long run, that can't be denied.
