3 years before assassination, back in 1988, AICC was held in MM Nagar. Moopanar was busy arranging this. Had a chance to see Rajiv as he stayed there for few days. Had been to Sriperumbudur in 1988 to the same lake ground where he was assassinated 3 years later. Rajiv was really a charming leader.

My opinion is that Vijayakumar Nair (why are so many great commandoes Malayalees?!), combined the brute force method of Walter Davaram with the smart, intelligence-based approach of Natarajan, and the result was formidable and effective.
Also, with CM Jayalalitha, “Failure was just not an option”, even against the jungle phantom called Veerapan.
