I can't begin to imagine how many hours of work went into making this video. How you managed to get the camera in so close whilst also repairing the saw is nothing less than brilliant. You certainly don't do things by halves Tom. Well done.
An older, good running chainsaw has something special over a brand new shinny one out the box. Bumps and scratches in some tools really do give them character.
Brilliant Tom! Someone liked some Dirko, LOL. That carb looked remarkably clean. Nice trick with the demagnetizer on that spring. Replacement carb you reckon?
I believe that Dirko was from the factory! That’s an original C1Q carb too :) we don’t have ethanol out here so although they may build up varnished fuel, more often than not they’re very clean like this!
4:56 What's the blue grease you're using? 5:20 What's that red oil you're using? 6:57 What's that solution & what were you soaking? 8:18 What's that red grease you're using? 8:32 What are you doing here? Great video :)
Very cool video, nice to see your work beginning to end like that. I’ve read your techniques on AS but to see some of them here really gives the full picture.
Really enjoyed your video. Nice how you demagnetized the spring. I have a mag/demag but always forget the demag feature. Greetings from the Great Midwest, Missouri, USA
Hey :) it’s just standard bearing grease! The seals are nitrile so withstand petroleum greases unlike rubber o-rings or rubber seals that require silicone or vegetable based greases / oils.
Nice restoration 👏...those stihl chainsaws are magnificent work horses all the way up to the big boy saws...they even make fuel injection saws now and the throttle response is on point
And not one word soooo I got creative and opened up a second page TH-cam of course and looked up rainy day songs first one was Rainy Day Dream Away Jimi Hendrix then I found Rainy Night In Georgia Randy Crawford and the last one was of course Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head B. J. Thomas ! 👍 Good one Tom ✌
Nice one Tom. That cleaned up very nicely. I must say, that looked suspiciously similar to an MS230C I just fixed up for a customer a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunitely the 290 is still sitting here, next to his MS391 which has been waiting nearly 5 weeks for a new fuel hose to come in from Stihl🤣🤷♂️

Hey :) it’s just standard bearing grease! The seals are nitrile so withstand petroleum greases unlike rubber o-rings or rubber seals that require silicone or vegetable based greases / oils.

What are you using to block the intake boot? Is that homemade?
Yes! Just rubber inner tube to seal it :)
Look like a condom!🤣
LOL I’m wondering if we’re looking at two different things haha

That was oddly interesting to watch. Silent movies about chainsaws... cool.
Thanks Bill, something a little different :)
@@VintageEngineRepairs It was art. I am surprised you didn't go black and white. 🙂
Is that gasket maker on the main bearings??
No, it’s around the pocket for the oil seal.
Great work Tom! I love watching your videos. May I ask what is that material that you cut the gasket out of?
Thank you! It’s actually just called gasket sheets or oil jointing sheets. I prefer oil jointing sheets honestly.
excellent video Tom, your an expert well done👌👍

Stihl 0025, right?
I think so from memory! Or an 023? Honestly it’s been a couple years I believe!
Me gusto su video por que no habla. Estas mudo?
Na, I just tried something different called ASMR
Why disassemble on the ground? This is not a field call😮
