It really is a pitty that Panerai is still acting like Stallone and Schwarzenegger are their only customers...2023 and they still release 45mm watches 🤦🏻♂️ Not to mention the Rolex prices... The watches are beautiful, both technically but special the design language. Unfortunately for the size and price many of us are cut out from owning them.

Radiomir looks bland to me, over 9k and a display back that shows an ugly plain movement, not a fan of the dials either, the calender looks lovely in comparison although not the fumè dial in burgundy, the smaller goldtech is my favourite.
High prices are attractive to brush the ego and create a distance for the wealthy. Watch design is everywhere now some fantastic micro brands offering super cool for real money not this fantasy world for the rich.
Let me know when they bring back 2-300m WR, sandwich dials on base models and display back. I love the watches but come on, you have gutted the brand. Yes you saved on manufactioning cost but at what cost?
Current day Panerai has to be one of the biggest piss-takes in watchmaking. Here in Australia, a base model Luminor costs the same as an Oyster Perpetual and you just know the Luminor costs like $300 to make. They need to be 30% cheaper, and it wasn't all that long ago that they were. They've simultaneously increased prices whilst making the product worse (movement finishing, removing hacking seconds, etc.). I know this entire hobby is essentially buying overpriced goods off the back of perceived 'heritage', but come on.

Tbh, I’m not a big fan of Panerai and I had a Luminor Marina 1950 that I wore for a few years then sold. These Radiomirs seem more exquisite with elaborate complications and dressier. I wore my Luminor once with a suit and cuplinks but didn’t feel like it worked because of its size…kinda like wearing my Air Jordans with a suit lol!
They need to drop the price to $6k, start using a genuine in house movement vs a Richemont Val Fleurier, and reverse the trend of cost cutting within the watch before we start this conversation.
I expect the Quaranta to have a better movement finish for that hefty price. Also I'm still not convinced with the 50m WR. I get it, its a dress watch but you cant disassociate the diving history of the brand.

Ya know...my Rolex GMT batman looks almost the same as the original 1954 GMT. Sure, the bracelet and bezel are better...but the look is very similar. The whole point of this Radiomir release is to connect to their roots and the original radiomir heritage. It's ok to hate the Panerai design (that's what makes this hobby fun)...but to say it's the same crap every year...while Rolex hasn't really changed their design look in 70 years...not to mention the Cartier tank, IWC Portuguese, Patek, etc, etc, etc...is just cherry picking an example of a watch brand you don't happen to like.
For me, they should put more emphasis on new and innovative rubber straps. I would never wear a panerai on leather, for me being able to swim in it is part of the entire ethos of the brand.

Back in the late 90s no one was interested in Panerai watches except for a few collectors. The watches were simple back then, many models being hand wound. I remember seeing an entry level Panerai for $2500 new. The prices have gone up. Changes have been made to metals used in case design. And some of their movements have greater complications. The watch is not for everyone. The cases are oversized and too thick for many wrists. But there is still the Italian heritage tied to the watch, its use in the Navy, and an international group of serious Panerai collectors.
China is watching and I'm waiting because there's no way I'm going to pay those prices knowing what's inside combined with their terrible and very expensive customer service. Me and my wife had at least 10 gen Panerai's from 1998 up until 2014 when I finally sold the last one, my PAM127, for over double the price and turned to high end rep's which are very good and at a fraction of the price i.e.; there is no need to go gen. Yeah yeah I know ... but fuck it
The remake of the 424 with the pam 5000 in green is nice and the 8 days is a welcome change. Interesting that they dropped it 2MM and no logo. I just dont see the price tag justified at $12,500 when you can get the 424 at $8k and grey market at $5k. I do love Panerai.
They're beautiful watches, for sure. But I can think of many different brands, namely AP, PP, and Vacheron, that I'd rather spend that kind of money on.
Richemont do a better job than most in allowing their brands to find their place - with the exception of Panerai. They just don’t have the watchmaking chops to sustain their pricing policy and, in consequence, look like a style-over-substance proposition. Not a surprise for an Italian brand ….but it does make the wearer look like a fashion victim twat….

Received my watch. It's a fantastic looking watch, the "gunmetal grey" case just works, and surprisingly it is not as big as I expected. It feels smaller than my 44mm 111 which I've had for 15 years and also smaller than my 44mm eSteel submersible that I bought last year. Very wearable and looks great on the wrist. I'm a fan...but will experiment a bit with straps. I might want something different than the blue strap even though it's very nice; between the blue dial and strap it's just a lot of blue so I'll try some other strap options.
9,700 euro for such a basic watch and a caseback for the most basic movement with NO finishing...have Panerai gone crazy? So many of their watches are lower mid tier watches at high end prices...insane

If I was a billionaire, I'd have dozens and dozens of watches, including a handful of Panerais.... but a complication-heavy Panerai wouldn't be one of them. It's cool that they make them and show what they're capable of, I guess, but definitely not for me.
I like the California model , the rest , meh OK , nothing special. I never liked Panerai in 40 mm or 42 mm ; I believe they should only be in three sizes 44mm , 45mm, and 47 mm. I know the trend is moving towards slightly smaller watches but the identity of the brand and its history is linked to larger sized sports watches . Making 40 mm and 42 mm watches is in my opinion a “ sell -out” purely for the sake of sales volume and profit .The main problem is that they are overpriced . That has always been their problem since the Swiss took over. They are trying to punch above their weight class, which is Ok if you approach it in terms of quality ; but not if the price is unreasonable and does not offer value for money .The resale value on these is also atrocious .
I can't even get warm about these watches, they are insanely priced for what they deliver in my opinion and fail dismally to appeal to me. Compare these to the newly released IWC ingenur 40. The latter should win watch of the year and it sells for 16,000 Euros. Not many people realise the Gerald Genta legacy but he was the man that designed the AP and the Patek Philippe. Mr wonderful would be stuck as these new IWC's 2023 releases do not allow for a red band and only come in bracelet's.

Today, it is still great watches for a lot of customers. It is not for me . I got a problem with the design (to large, to heavy) . With your videos i know that i can find at least 20 watches that i truly like from OMEGA, JLC, BREGUET, VACHERON CONSTANTIN or LONGINES .
That california dial is beautiful. But I kinda disagree with the guy: I don't think this watch is immediately recognizable as Panerai watch. If the watch had traditional Panerai indeces but no logo then it would be recognizable. But this watch has two quirks: special california dial + no logo. Together it's a drastic differentiation from other Panerai watches and thus not recognizable. That being said, that's the most interesting Panerai watch I've seen.

I love the Radiomir except for the sub-seconds hand. It not only displaces the beautiful number 9 on the sandwich dial, but it is chubby and round. If they had centre seconds I definitely would go for one, but they probably never will.
Finally an old brand, adding some style to their watches. I’m so tired of these old ass brands with these plain ass black and white watches, as if they’re terrified of change. You can have quality, precision and style.

Have you ever actually tried one on? The lug to lug is basically the same as the width, so they wear smaller than the measurement would suggest.

I usually never give Panerai a second look, but apart from the California, these watches are all very attractive.

I decided to give that blue-dial 8-day radiomir a try. It will arrive in a few days. 45mm is pushing it...but hopefully it doesn't feel too big.

Eight day power reserve is not "basic". Neither is the finishing.
Don't get why they have a display case, though.

I love the Radiomir except for the sub-seconds hand. It not only displaces the beautiful number 9 on the sandwich dial, but it is chubby and round. If they had centre seconds I definitely would go for one, but they probably never will.
Finally an old brand, adding some style to their watches. I’m so tired of these old ass brands with these plain ass black and white watches, as if they’re terrified of change. You can have quality, precision and style.
I agree with Panerai that they should call the blank faced watch that’s unrecognizable the California. Very fitting indeed.
