I always thought the mind-reading blockage between mentors and fledglings was a great metaphor for how parents and children often have difficulty understanding each other, because such a relationship carries so much baggage and power imbalance. Just because someone is your immediate family doesn't mean you'll always get them, or that you'll never hurt them. Indeed, this very closeness creates special kinds of risks for the relationship to go wrong.
Claudia is more immediately accepting because her life was hell. She spent it longing for anyone who would love her, wishing for a mother she never got to meet or a father who wouldn’t have abandoned her to get beat on. Now all of a sudden she has a family who loves her. It’s a dream come true, a miracle. Louis was so tormented and ready to die day one after his brother died and his mom blamed him. That’s been Claudia’s whole life. She knew she killed her mom just by being born, and that thought wouldn’t have been able to take hold in her if her dad/aunt didn’t let it grow. So maybe the bloodlust is just from the appetite of her age, but I’d say a bit of it is from how unkind humans had been to her, all the anger her isolated childhood had fostered in her finally getting a chance to be let out, revenge just like Louis gets.
I guess i choose to believe that the reason they didn't show the riots is because Claudia didn't mention them in her diary after she was turned. So its not like the riots isn't still happening, but that they didn't show it because from her perspective she didn't care to write about them ongoing that night. Similar to when Daniel asked Louie if it rained that night when he was with the solider friend. Louie was telling the story from his perspective.
The reason this Claudia was "just okay with it" is because we're to understand her life was filled with so much horror already. Especially with aging her up. At least in this horror, she has the power.
Can be explained that all the chaos from night before has no consequences portrayed in this episode, as it's claudia's own pov, as a sefilsh teenanger vampire with a hint of psychopath who doesn't care much about what's happening and yes with her teen problems and the next victim! the whole episode really seems to me like a colorful vision of a young serial killer! lol
Another great video, thanks. It’s interesting that you thought the gayness was less present than the first episode. For me, the love and intimacy between L & L felt crazy high - so high that I wondered why it took Claudia’s POV for is to see it. In Louis’s telling, the affection seemed much more one-sided. But this episode? It felt very much like a marriage - the touch of a hand in a car, the night cuddle, the twirl together around the room. Sure they’re not screwing in the air, but gotta say, for this gay-married guy, that felt more true. That blistering sexual heat of the early years mellows out ;)
For me it felt like it was THERE (finally!!) which is why I got so excited and pointed out every single one of those little moments. But I wouldn't call it crazy high, (as there were only about half a dozen bits). Just a welcome change to how sparse it was in the previous episodes. That's the kind of stuff we should have been seeing in 2 and 3 all along! And that's why I was wondering if it was always there and Louis just wasn't telling Daniel about it. Which is a perfectly fine reason to explain it...however it still has the result of minimal intimacy between men actually being shown on the screen. Saying it was there but Louis just kept it secret doesn't do much for TV representation.
@@MavenoftheEventide It's kinda funny, because from Louis' perspective, he was sort of focusing on how and why their relationship[ or at least his enchantment(or, rather, disenchantment) with being a vampire having not actually solved all his ills] was in varying stages kind of progressively disintegrating....more and more, over time, ever after that first night as a vampire. So it probably was there, and he probably was just not focusing on it too much, because that(their more romantic/intimate/relationship side) wasn't really the story that he wanted to tell. ? ...And yet, come Claudia's POV, and they're at this point where things were actually kind of tense and awkward and on the rocks but sort of almost mending..so it would have made sense to see a decrease..except, to Claudia, it was all new and strange and she had no frame of reference for how they were or weren't before she got there so she understandably just noticed that it was there at all[ seemingly without even initially realizing what it was entirely at first yet eventually obviously putting two-and-two together as she got older .. so there was ample reason for her to focus on it more throughout that journey]. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it, idk. ^--^ Buuut, anyhow! I do kind of wonder if maybe they haven't shown it even more explicitly because they're still trying, despite openly acknowledging it, specifically to simultaneously keep it _just_ vague enough that it doesn't bother those fans who are more exceptionally attached to the asexuality of the novels *too much* to the point where they quit watching? (And, I mean, it's not as if they've been showing heterosexuality exceptionally more explicitly either? So, at least it's not totally imbalanced, so far ? ) idkk
Lestat "My husband is about to leave me. I fear facing the long decades alone" Louis running in with a charred Claudia "Let's have a daughter!!!!!" Lestat "MARRIAGE SAVED!!!"
Louis and Lestat brought Claudia home to their townhouse on the Rue Royale. That's in a very nice neighborhood, probably some distance from the Storyville riots.
In the previous episode, he could see the riots from the window of his house. He's watching them there in the scene right before he tells Lestat he'll always be alone.
@@MavenoftheEventide I think it just seems he’s watching the riot when in fact he’s pondering/thinking about what his actions have wrought. You can hear the sirens fade into the distance as they enter that scene.
I have theories as to why we have a little inconsistency with Louis on the timeline. They’re pretty much linked. We are seeing the world through Claudia’s rose colored glasses. So when Louis is smiling, she thinks he actually really happy. This is due to Louis being a parent and faking the happiness for his child. So the fights we don’t hear, is the fights we have heard in previous episodes. Probably Lestat being a bad influence on Claudia, whoever Lestat killed that Louis didn’t approve of, etc. Also these little hints and drops of how much Louis cared about Lestat is due to Louis refusing to mention them as he sees it as a weakness. Also, Claudia is okay with being a vampire because she doesn’t know what a vampire is. I don’t think they taught Dracula in school back then. At least not the segregated schools. So all she probably knew was she got these cool powers and she survived the awful fire, and now she is hungry for things so craves. Teenagers are aware of what is right or wrong but don’t really grasp the consequences of that yet. Not really. Overall the show really is honing in on the reliability of the author and showing us there is more behind everything then we know. Really setting up for Lestats book.
Well, I mean, even Claudia acknowledges that they 'have their problems'[ and that they do sometimes argue]-implying that the fighting we've seen in previous episodes is still happening. She just thinks this is normal &/or doesn't realize just how significant or bad or impactful these arguments really are...to Louis[ internally-speaking], or to Lestat, really. So probably she just simply doesn't tend to mention it, after the first time, except when there is particularly special occasion to[...such as when she's noting how their fighting doesn't sound as amusing to her when it's in English and she can actually understand what is being argued over]. (But, also, yes-because Louis is over-sheltering her[ probably beyond what is culturally or societally normal even], and is also kind of protecting Lestat's image/reputation in front of her[ either due to this over-sheltering or out of his love for Lestat not wanting others to see or focus only on Lestat's bad-side when Louis sees and loves and clings-to Lestat's better-sides], kind of like when Louis super delicately explains that 'sometimes Lestat's kills get "too extravagant" for Louis' tastes' or whatever rather than telling Claudia that sometimes Lestat likes to humiliate and torture his victims and doesn't only kill just to sate the need to feed in order to survive.) Plus, she was what? 14?? That's barely even more than only-just a teenager. Some early-teens grasp right and wrong more or less than others do, at that age, based on a lot of varying possible factors. Especially if you were to suddenly pluck them out of human morals and human morays and teach them that they not only _can_ but legit *_have_*_ to_ kill things[ chiefly human people] in order to live. You can't really expect her to have developed, psychologically-speaking, after that exactly on par with the same way that a human would have-not even if her psychological development isn't just forever frozen at the level it was at when she was turned. Human teenagers learn to become more responsible as they get older, not simply because their internal psychological state just magically snaps into the right place once their brains or bodies are physically mature to a certain/ correct/ point, but because it is both expected of them and necessary for them to do so in order to navigate the world successfully; but Claudia hasn't had hardly anything expected of her, as far as we can tell[ she has been rather indulged and likely spoiled], and doesn't have the same pressing need to learn how to successfully navigate 'normal'[/human] society as she gets older as human teenagers do. So, I basically agree with you and think you're onto something, for sure.😁😅 🙂
@@StrawberryShorty Then again, maybe it's just because Louis has pretty much said before that he just gets swept up in the current moment sometimes and doesn't actually think about other things outside-of or beyond the moment that he's in ...until that moment passes, or changes somehow. (And I think "the moment" which sometimes seems to last for an unusually long amount of time[ by human standards], is often enough implied to seem much more passingly-fleeting to vampires, too.) So, maybe Louis really was that happy, just as long as he wasn't actively thinking about all the things he wasn't happy with; or just so long as he was in denial and inventing ways to rationalize his unhappiness away as irrelevant or "not _that_ bad" or not the most important thing[, or whatever] OR was just willfully brushing them off, in his own mind. It's just that, while Lestat almost never feels guilty about getting swept away like that without concern for anyone or anything else around him[ or for choosing to prioritize himself and his own enjoyment or wants for a moment], Louis actually _does_ feel extremely guilty just as soon as Louis does actually stop and think or reflect on anything else around him ar all aside from just that happy/self-indulgent/ moment .. & then not having done so more, or more-often, only tends to make him feel even guiltier about not having felt guilty or more-guilty even more and/or even sooner. But Claudia wouldn't know any of that, because she doesn't have any of the previous' episodes' context like viewers in the audience do-and she was only a child, so it's not totally unusual for children to not realize what they're overlooking that a grown-up might notice and think much more of than a child does, but gradually start to focus-on or pick up on different things the older they get and/or the more they learn either about other things or about what other people do/don't notice and why or why-not. (Much like how grown-ups often don't realize what a child notices that a grown-up might not, or that a grown-up might not think they would[..or might not think is as important as a child might], too.) idk
@@StrawberryShorty Never underestimate people's abilities to ignore certain things in favor of focusing on certain other things. The mind can be a remarkably selective thing, when it comes to what it does or doesn't fixate on, sometimes. Of course, which birthday scene exactly are we talking here? Claudia's? Or Louis' nieces'? Lol (I suspect you mean Claudia's? But .. 😅 for better or for worse, I really loathe to assume.🙃😅😅)
I think the inconsistency of peaceful quiet night and the riot on the street is because, the riot is happening on Storyville, and Louis is “living a comfortable life with his white daddy in Quarter”, which I assume, is the richer, quieter and more peaceful part of the city. This thing happens, here they have clean street, beautiful quiet night, while the other part is full of people struggling for staying alive by keeping those night nice and peace. I think it also shows us how much Claudia’s life was changed in one night, from a poor orphan in the worst area, to the little lady living a comfortable life in a beautiful house wearing white chiffon skirt. What’s not to like for a teenager that has nothing to lose?
@@MavenoftheEventide I've come to accept time passes differently in this universe. A few minutes our time is actually several years for them. Louis took about four years to get Claudia back to his house.
Perhaps Louis is shown more tender to Lestat now because Daniel is reading from Claudia's journals. Maybe Louis never openly told Daniel about him being all sweet with Lestat out of resentment. But Claudia did write about it as it truly was.
I do wish they would have done away with the Uncle Lestat thing because Lestat being Claudia's father just makes the whole situation much more tragic and thematically resonant. Claudia killed her father just like Lestat wanted to kill his own father. He understands her even after that.
I don't know about all of you but I stopped growing at 12. That's as tall as I was going to get as a woman, and as for the rest of me, maybe things grew a bit more, but not by much. So body wise 14 isn't bad at all. Having a childlike face is the only thing that would be frustrating.
I used to work with a girl who was barely 4 something tall. Even if you scaled her up she would have been VERY petite. The only thing that told you she was an adult were her workboots and name tag.
the interview takes place in 2022 so this is after the whole Prince Lestat series, I think everyone is forgetting about these books. Louis has taken Lestat's blood so have the cloud gift and the fire gift. there are also many more vampire characters as well as human servants
That's only if we're assuming the entire timeline hasn't been moved forward into the future, though, and not just the era of Louis' & Claudia's making.
From the way they’ve talked about it in all the panels and interviews, none of the other books/events have happened yet. It really sounds like “the great conversion” will lead to Akasha’s rise and the queen of the damned story.
I loved this episode. It was painful though because everytime they were having a good nice family time I was reminded of what's going to come. Also, all things considered, this portrayal of Lestat is a lot easier to empathize with, so I actually feel kinda bad about him being the odd one out out of their weird little family 😭
Love your breakdowns XD I feel like the only reason we don't see Louis dealing with much anymore during the Claudia era is that he's become a bit of a recluse outside of Lestat and Claudia: to protect humans from his rash decisions and to protect himself
What I found the most interesting in this episode is the near complete tonal shift and even thematic shift. They are really committing to the “unreliable narrator” device, which in turn tells us Louis, for all his professed desire to tell the whole truth, is also still pursuing his own agenda and deflecting Daniel’s accusations of inconsistencies by an imperfect memory. Now in episode 4 we see a much less tortured Louis and it’s really intriguing to note all that seems to differ and try to puzzle out how much is due to the immaturity of Claudia as a narrator, and how much is Louis “revising” history. Even Claudia’s perspective on Lestat, and the relationship of the two men, are depicted differently, and she barely pays attention to their problems, with the egocentrism of teenagers it’s all about herself. This is really good and subtle writing in there. I’m very puzzled by the timeline. More and more I’m inclined to think the Louis we see has gone through a lot more than the Louis of Interview. I even wonder if this isn’t a post QOTD and post Merrick Louis… the fact he’s already collected Claudia’s diaries could be a big clue. There’s the whole “I serve a God” as well. It’s a super interesting question, as it could mean Louis could remain a narrator, one of a few maybe, for longer than expected from the books. About “Victor”, it’s the French spelling of Vittorio. Maybe there’s something there?
I didn't really get the impression that Louis so much convinced Daniel that he was a reliable narrator as he just convinced Daniel that he had the right to re-tell his own story the way that he wanted to, without being beholden to the fact that it wasn't how he had told it before. (Also.. I'm sure those deleted digitized copies can actually be recovered, even if they were "permanently" deleted and not just dropped into the 'trash' bin, if Daniel really-really wants to get them back.) 😅🤭🤣
My current theory is that Rashid is actually Ramses from the Ramses the Damned series. It would be a huge new story direction but consistent with Ramses long history of acting as counselor to powerful people
I would love to see that! But if he was Ramses, he would be in the sunshine all the time, not avoiding it. Ramses soaked in all his energy from the sun.
that would imply that amc had the rights to the ramses books which i don't think they do. correct me if i am wrong but don't they have the rights only to the vc books and the mayfair trilogy? this is probably armand who won't be the book-canon slavic armand.
@@maggyfrog I believe one of the VC books does make a reference to Ramses (though I don't recall if they name him) as another type of immortal wandering the earth, I just forget exactly which book.
@@JRAndrach the show still can't name him ramses or make it seem like he is ramses if they don't have rights to adapt those books. i think christopher may have a legal way of opposing the show if rashid turns out to be ramses. so, i think he's probably armand with a different story altogether.
Im glad so many people are enjoying this. I will probably binge this show once the season ends, but I still don't know how I feel about trying to modernize them. Its not exactly a escape from reality.
The biggest issue I had with this episode was that they used gloves on her diary. You don't use gloves on any historical items that are delicate. You use clean hands. Gloves make it so you lose tactile gauge and you're more likely to tear paper or clothes.
Huh. I did have this thought... Maybe they were actually giving Daniel vampire blood. I thought this last year, but your comment about the iv drug not being correct form of drug therapy reinforces it.
I think because it’s from Claudia’s perspective, that’s why there’s no mention of the riots. It probably wouldn’t be something she would write about in her journal.
that antique desk contrasting sharply against the highly urban-contemporary-minimalist style of louis' place in the 21st century seems like an unfortunate parallel to how much anne rice there is in the show itself. i'm not even sure why they decided to put an antique desk in that bleak apartment. like, what's the thematic reason, if there is even one? it would have made more sense if there is one room in all the rooms that were kept to look like an opulent trove of antiquities where louis would occasionally spend time in. but just a desk in an almost brutalist architecture? i don't get it.
To me it looked like a pretty obvious symbol of how Louis still feels attached to Claudia. She’s dead, but the memory of her is preserved perfectly, with all her journals in tact. The journals, desk, & pressed flower all a relic of the time period Claudia grew up in. Makes sense because it’s not even the strangest object in the room. That tree is. And it was put there to give Louis a connection to nature. The props in this room contrast with the rest of the apartment because they’re purposeful symbols.
@@Nicolacallahan it still looks emblematic of how little the show has in common with the books. i'm sure the show didn't mean it to look that way, but because the vampires in the books tended to be aesthetes and absolutely adored opulent surroundings, a minimalist louis is somewhat of an antithesis to the vampires' love of beauty.
Well, Louis is described as living depressed solitude repeatedly through out the series post Interview (which Lestat comments on, since he always lives life to the fullest). I think the Brutalist apartment is a nod to that. Then again, I’m not a book purist, since the books are all over the place quality-wise. Like Anne leaves Louis out for much of the series. I think I prefer this version, he seems more dynamic.
@@Nicolacallahan because when anne decided to write more after book 1, she chose lestat as the main character. louis was never her main character in the vampire chronicles. edit: also, louis in the books would never bother being pretentious with brutalism or minimalism in the years he was depressed post iwtv. he was genuinely in deep despair about being a vampire that he wouldn't go out of his way wasting effort in surrounding himself with "sleek" surroundings. if he made an effort at all, he would simply go back to his original taste in aesthetics.
Like I said, I’m not a book purist. I like show Louis, I think the books kept him a bit stagnant. So saying it’s not something book Louis would do doesn’t matter to me, because I see the show as taking the character in an exciting new direction. Also, I think the brutalist structure is keeping something in. Like Rashid & Daniel in ep 2 talked about the house creaking. Those concrete walls might not just be for show. I think that’s the difference between our perspectives. I’m ok with the show diverging from the books & like speculating on what these changes mean.
I developed the same hypothesis about Rashid's identity since episode one based on aesthetics (not ethnically, but he was youngish by TV standards) and the fact that he gave vamp vibes.
- Lestat wasn't telling them that much about being a vampire... he told them a lil bit, but i think he didn't want them to know too much and leave him...
Loving these reviews! I've read most of the books, but that was years ago. So I like to hear the changes and similarities being analysed by someone who remembers all the details :) Brings back some memories for me too.
I like what you said about Rashid being Armand. At this point, anything can happen! Something does not feel right about the present day storyline. A twist is coming.
They're saving all the sexy times for Lestat's pov. That man should have miles of waxing poetic about Louis'... just everything. We'll have to wait for bursting into confetti until then sigh
I'm probably _soooooo_ wrong, but something is telling me that Rashid is Raglan James. If the show is doing away with David in favour of Daniel, wouldn't it be quite the foreshadowing if Rashid was eventually revealed to be the Body Thief?
I’ll be so sad when the season is over. I’m not thrilled with some changes in Lestat’s character (Not killing (mostly only) evil doers, holding humans in high regard). But I’m so glad that the second season has been green lit!❤
This show is my favorite. It’s so good. Luckily I think most people gave this more of a chance that other shows when they disliked the casting choice, or made changes. Obviously those people will always harp on Race, but I was really glad I saw a overwhelming number of people just saying they enjoyed the show. It’s like the military. We have training on Treating people with respect no matter sex, sexual orientation, or race. There were bumps in the road, and yes still issues. But the culture as a whole has forced the bigots into the closet at least. It seems like the same is happing to American culture finally. But anyway, I hope the show can stay good. One of the few ones I actively look forward to. I’m seriously thinking of subscribing to AMC show my full support. I hope it last for many season to come.
It's a mistake to think everyone who takes issue with the race swapping just cares about race or is racist. It's more about changing existing characters/stories and being hypocritical about it, plus the alarming rate at which such things are happening. I'm tired of it too, but like this show so far because it's actually doing something with the change in race.
I'm so happy that AMC chose to green light a second season for this show. I'm enjoying it far more than I thought I would, as at first I wasn't a fan of how much the show runners would be deviating from the source material. But, since I've been watching, the show has turned me completely around. My only hope at this point is that AMC allows this to be released on DVD/Blu-ray. I REALLY want to add this show to my physical collection...
I really liked this episode, and I am liking this new incarnation of Claudia a lot. Re: the change about it being Louis’ idea to change turn Claudia… my head canon is that this is one of those things young Louis was just way too ashamed to admit. He could cop to having almost killed her, but inflicting this immortal life on a child? He wasn’t ready to own that, and placed the blame on Lestat instead. Also (and no, I wouldn’t have known this myself) is it weird that with all the changes and potential nitpicks possible with the show, the idea that they might have gotten basic facts about Daniel’s medical condition wrong bothers me maybe more than any of it. Is this leading somewhere? Is the transfusion going to end up being a cure? They kinda made it sound like this was something he was getting regularly 🤷🏻♀️ Anyhoo, still very much enjoying the ride. So glad we’re getting a season two so presumably we’ll at least get through the events of Interview.
if this is how the show is turning daniel into a vampire, it's another blatant change to the lore. shouldn't the person be in the "brink of death" so that when the person receives the vampire blood, that's how the forces actually begin the transformation from human to vampire? technically, the mortal body needs to die for the forces to inhabit the dead body through the "animated vampire blood". i'm hoping that the show would at least go and try to show this, that daniel has to be brought to the brink of death for the transformation to proceed. otherwise, this is just disregarding the books yet again.
I think it's the unreliable narrator role that the flashbacks take, since Louis is telling what happened to him he tells us about the pain but when he tells us about his daughter's pain he doesn't want to think she felt pain inflicted by him so he puts that out of him mind and narrates it as if she got turned entirely peacefully.
I feel there's something about Rashid who he really is and also seeing as Claudia point view is interesting, there's is something building up to another story idk if their going towards Queen of the damned where all vampire will be reveal but think that's where they're going , I'm sitting here watching as it goes wait for next Sunday
I wonder if the marquis is actually a reference to lestats mum. Her unique relationship with her gender could be interpreted as a Trans story. So upon becoming a vampire she may have decided to identify as male and lestat was honoring that choice by saying the necklace was from a marquis instead of a marquise
Changing Lestat to having a rich childhood would be a HUGE change. His poverty in his youth shaped his entire personality. And we’ve seen a lot of that same personality here. He also told the story about the monastery, so that has to be the same. I love agender Gabrielle, and his mother did give him all her jewels, but he spent them, that’s how he got his gun and his horse and his passage to Paris. He didn’t keep any of them, couldn’t afford to. He could barely afford bread in Paris. if he got the jewel after he became a vampire and inherited Magnus’s treasure, it would make more sense why he kept it. We did also hear him telling the story at the poker table about how he came into his wealth honestly without exploiting anyone, Which sounded like it fit with just inheriting a giant pile of treasure when he became a vampire. Also, Sam Reid talked about Lestat getting Magnus’s treasure in one of his recent interviews. I considered that maybe they changed Magnus to a marquis, but him getting beheaded in the French Revolution (ot any time 10 years after giving Lestat the jewel) does not make much sense. So here’s hoping for a new marquis boyfriend backstory! 🤞
@@MavenoftheEventide they have changed the back story of every character in the book in ways that drastically alter their personality but you think they wont do the same to lestat?? 🤔
None whatsoever. Anytime he's questioned, he always says "Please refer all your questions to AMC." And that's it. I figured if he had anything good to say, he would say it. So I'm guessing there is bad blood between the Rices and this show that they all are contracted to stay silent about.
hm so i checked the viewership of the show so far. i know it's only the first season and the show might pick up steam, but as it stands, it doesn't have a ton of viewership right now. considering amc probably paid a lot to purchase the rights for 15 vc books and 3 mayfair books, i bet they're expecting at least iwtv to have millions of views per episode. i don't know the history of how amc cancels shows, but in other streaming platforms, usually when an expensive IP doesn't make them as much money as they initially projected, that show typically gets cancelled even with a small cult following. so with the off-chance that the show gets cancelled anytime after season 2 with low viewership, the rights might go back to christopher if amc decides they don't want this IP anymore. with the slim chance that christopher gets the rights back, then i think that's the time he can openly talk about what anne and him really thought about the changes prior to season 1 filming, and chris' own thoughts on the show itself as it aired.
@@maggyfrog well they are releasing it a week early on AMC+ and as per usual we have no idea what the numbers for streaming services are. So it could be a massive hit and we just wouldn't know.
@@4203105 as per wikipedia, eps 1 & 2 are about .6 ~ .5 mil viewers per episode. it's looks a little modest but not so low that it'd immediately get cancelled. comparing it to other book franchises, GoT season 1 (back when most of its viewers are the readers) averaged about 2.2 ~ 2.5 mil per episode. but that's hbo, and amc doesn't have the amount of subs that hbo has. according to netflix, the sandman remained at top 10 worldwide yet they cancelled it after season 1 despite the fans wanting more. now amc+ announced that their subs increased when iwtv and some other show aired, but half mil viewership looks a little shaky. if the show doesn't attract a significant amount of new subs, it might stagnate at around those numbers. not sure if it's enough to make them the profit margins they were looking for in the long run though. other fan-loved shows get cancelled all the time due to poor viewership.
I've been meaning to ask this since the show started, but do you think the 'Immortal Universe' will include any other works beyond The Vampire Chronicles? I know the witches are on their way, but it's strange how much emphasis AMC is placing on the whole extended universe thing, especially with only two confirmed shows. Do you think it's possible that we'll see other shows following Rice's werewolves, mummies, and djinn?
Before the show aired I was questioning why they went with the title Interview With The Vampire instead of naming the entire show The Vampire Chronicles. I thought about name recognition for those who are not familiar with the books but are familiar with the 1994 film. But last week I started thinking that maybe as they continue with the books in the series they will have the episodes be under a different show name, according to the specific book it's taking as the main source material. (I also noticed there is only one social media account/handle AMC is using on various platforms for the entire Immortal Universe, likely going to change the name in accordance with show titles when said show is airing.) I could be *totally wrong-* it was just a random thought and could be convenient for them if they overlapped filming or one title got canceled before further books were adapted/aired. I also haven't read any of Anne Rice's book outside TVC, so I can't say anything on them in terms of the content and fitting into the Immortal Universe. Though, AMC only bought the rights to the 18 books of TVC and Mayfair Witches in the deal in 2020.
unless amc acquires rights for ramses the damned, servant of the bones, violin, etc, i don't see this "immortal universe" expanding beyond the VC books and the mayfair trilogy.
Exactly, they ONLY have the rights for the Vampires and Witches. But there's plenty in there to make a universe out of (Taltos, Aliens... 😬) Originally, they WERE going to do separate single-season mini-series for each book, with their own titles. But now that Interview is getting renewed for future seasons, I think they've changed their minds on that. I had the thought that maybe they titled it Interview, because instead of Lestat and everyone coming along to write their own books after Louis's is done, they'll tell their stories to Daniel one by one in interviews of their own, and he'll be the one turning them into the books. That way, all the books will still be interviews with vampires, and then the title makes sense for everyone. Daniel interviews Lestat, Maharet, David, Pandora, Armand, Marius, everyone all in order and eventually gets everyone's backstories, meanwhile the modern times events (like Akasha's attacks) play out in real time around them.
@@MavenoftheEventide i just hope season 2 makes lestat as the rightful main character of the show. i think that's not a lot to ask from the showrunners. it would be strange to watch louis being constantly shoehorned in all the books he wasn't even involved. sam reid i think is a decent actor and if given the material of the gleeful feline lestat in the books, i have no doubt he can nail it.
But...in the books, Armand is Orthodox Christian. There's that scene in his book where he returns to Kievan Rus where his mother begs him to show her how he crosses himself to prove he hasn't converted to Catholicism. Right shoulder before left.
I think Armand and Daniel meeting is still going to happen. Remember the events of that happen after interview with a vampire. Watching the behind the scenes video about the series explains that there planing on do the whole book series or at least a combination of it. We'll just have to wait and see how popular the show is.
i feel like louis being able to stay awake during the day maybe it’s because he probably never go out of his penthouse and doesn’t have to hunt at night since he has people to bring blood to him, either from a “farm” or an animal, so maybe that’s why the “rules” does not apply to him on modern times, but did back in the day. he’s filthy rich, he can have blood anytime of the day so he doesn’t have to sleep to replenish his energies for the night to hunt for food.
Great job analyzing this episode. A couple of things that I took note of after watching this episode 1. I initially didn't think I would like this version of Claudia but after watching I thought that Bailey Bass knocked it out of the park. 2. I hated that Louis's relationship with his sister soured, but I thought it was really unecessary that they had him physically threaten her over a bit of verbal tension. They both already know that financially Louis holds are the cards, there is nothing that his sister can do to harm him. 3. I agree that the marriage doesn't seem all that shitty. We obviously won't see every spat but it doesn't appear that they are at odds any more than your average couple is.
Only very strong or elder vampires can do it. Young fledglings (like under 500) are too weak to do it unless they had an extremely powerful maker. In the book, Lestat made Louis weak on purpose because Marius told him to keep his fledglings as human as possible, and they both valued humanity so much. Louis was never able to do the little drink until after Lestat gave him the extra powerful blood in Merrick.
@Indianapolis Wing Chun He left Daniel for dead, and he barely survived by pure gumption alone. He also drank from Claudia, and she somehow managed to survive. The thing is, he can't stop. So if a person manages to survive after he's drained them to the point of death, that's not because he managed to stop early to intentionally LET them live. It's just that they got lucky. Here's the quote from the book that describes him: "The modern world doesn't mean anything to Louis. He walks the streets like a phantom, soundlessly, drawn slowly to those who welcome death, or seem to welcome it. And when he feeds, it is painless and delicate and swift. He must take life when he feeds. He does not know how to spare the victim. He was never strong enough for the 'little drink.'"
@@MavenoftheEventide I remember that, I just think that the application is inconsistent. Louis also drinks from Armand's boy/servant in the Theatre des Vampires and leaves him alive.
I think the riots might be downplayed since the perspective is coming from Claudia’s diaries. I mean, it makes sense that being turned into a vampire and adopted into a new family would probably become the focus of anyone’s diary. The overall comedic and happy tone might be due to Claudia’s outlook OH! Also, the skylight is directly over a piano it looked like, so I’m guessing this will be how they try to kill Lestat in this version.
I have this strange feeling that in the show's timeline, a part of The Queen of the Damned's events have already happened; in fact, they might be happening right as Louis tells his story to Daniel, and those events might be the reason for why Louis wanted to reconnect and tell his story properly. Obviously Lestat can't have gone public yet or Daniel would know about it, but the order of the events might have been changed to accommodate that factor.
Yeah, I'm not vibing with the Rashid-is-Armand theory, mostly because it...just doesn't make much sense imo? Why this elaborate game of pretending to be Louis's personal assistant? I do think that Armand is in the penthouse somewhere, though, mostly because I'm going to assume--due to time line changes--that Louis has not left Armand yet, and will be doing so toward the end of the second season, or perhaps when the story transitions into the evens of Queen of the Damned. So, Louis leaving Armand just in time for Louis to reunite with Lestat, and then all those QotD shenanigans go down.
I have to say I actually love these little reminders once in a while that you love this show ... because your tone of voice (which i assume is your general camera voice) can come off as more passive agressive than (i assume) you are trying to be and the very nature of the comparison format makes it seem nitpicky. i'm holding neither against you, honestly, it's just good to be reminded that you're also a fan :)
Wow - great theory about Rashid! I can see it. From when we first see him, it seems like there is more to R than meets the eye. In the casting notes, he is described as Louis's companion in the present. He also sits in the background playing with an iPad. Could he have a bit of a technology fetish like book Armand, playing with TV's and phones and computers?
Yeah, I was pretty much figured something was up with Rashid, the gloves and his repeated small but very effective appearances kind of give away, but part of me thinks he might not be an vampire, not likelihood but he’s definitely not human
NotLouis: yes, you will have this look from now on. TeenClaudia: you mean- I'm gonna have these shitty nails... FOREVER?!! Lestat: are you two mind talking? What are you- *teenage vampire rampage Lestat: you know what, I don't wanna know. (Yeah, I'm still going on about the nails lol)
First of all i think this was the Episode that sold me the new show. I have enjoyed this Claudia so much even though is not the OG 5 years old book Claudia. I like that they included the diaries, the Claudia POV really reminds me to the 2012 Graphic Novel "Claudia's Story" i liked that touch. But now considering that Louis have the Diaries means that all the Events of "Merrick" already happened right? Makes me think if "Merrick" Narrative will be part of IWTV series or "Mayfair Witches" Series 🤔 About the Rashid Mystery, i hope that he is not Armand. Like, this is not how Armand acts AT ALL! However i do think that maybe they are on Armand Complex. One can asume that the Palm Islands / Palm Jumeirah are the so called "Night Island" maybe in this AU is not located on Miami
Maybe he's a vampire and no one is telling Daniel so that Daniel won't try to ask him any questions. I hope it's Armand, that actor is pretty! Still sad we aren't getting Armand/Daniel.
Armand and Daniel can still meet. I think AMC will age up Armand a bit to to make the pairing work. No way is Armand going to be 17 years old like he is in the books.
;..💭I think Louis has always loved Lestat, he just has a lot of resentment for how he was forced into the relationship, and that he possibly had a hand in his brothers death. I think they both loved each other... AND, Remember in Lestat's speech in the church, he said Louis could be shame free and unapologetically his self! (but now that Lestat forced him into being a vampire, Louis is feeding on animals,(embarrassing) and he hounds him for not feeding on people. (that's not letting someone be unapologetically their self.)😏 - The biggest thing Lestat made better for him was Long life. / Q; Why are you stuck on the racist stuff?
I was too afraid to watch this episode, so I am late but I liked it. Mostly I was afraid how I will vibe with this Claudia but I found myself enjoying her character. Plus the domesticity was cute and funny. I was also suspecting, that Rashid may be Armand but in this episode they really seemed to hint at it. Though here lies my problem. They suggest, that he is from Crimea and if he were a Muslim from Crimea, that would make him a Tatar (who btw. do not at all look like our actor but that's the least of the problem here). Tatars are the very same people who have kidnapped Armand...Andrei to slavery. The whole word slave exists in English because of the many Slavic people like Armand who have met the same fate. And this show is making such a commentary on slavery but instead of making Armand the Slav he is, they did what they did. Though I am not surprised Hollywood doesn't care. I will live with it but as a Slav myself, I am disappointed.
@@petalchild It's NOT the other way around. Our people would never name themselves after slavery and the word for slave is completely different in Slavic languages. There is some discussion of what the etymology of the name of the Slavs is but it's either word, fame, freedom etc. but none of it is slave, I promise you. Also, just look up the etymology of the word slave.
Since, this is strictly from Claudia’s POV some things that were probably a big deal in episode 3 became background noise to this very self centered teenager. While, she does experience racism, she gets over it very quickly when distracted by Charlie (RIP 😞) and while we may think Louie is now okay with dead bodies in the house, episode 5 (the episode everybody can’t stop talking about on Twitter) will talk about the uncomfortableness he probably felt but buried inside for Claudia. I watched this episode three times cause I just loved the domestic scenes between them. I wish we could get another episode of them being a family but apparently that goes to shit very quickly lol.
@@andreastory800 Claudia's story is feeling more tragic then I remember the good thing about this show is how they are able to elaborate on their experiences, even it's not 100% faithful they are keeping the spirit of the books.....I'm really intrigued how they are going to show Lestats origin. He had a brutal and forceful turn into a vampire. I assume the show is only going to make it more f**ked up lol itll show the reason why Lestat is kind of an ass to Louis and Claudia's struggle.
Rashid being Armand is very interesting to me, especially the detail that he's always using his tablet. If I recall correctly, Armand develops a love and fascination with every little bit of technology he can get his hands on, so Rashid always having the tablet is certainly triggering my Armand bells at the moment. I hope you're right.
this would only work if claudia was much younger like in the books and the trauma of the transformation affected her memory of being a mortal. but she's a teen here and she would have had tons of memories of discrimination and so she would have at least remembered the chaos even though she had become selfish at this point. i don't understand why the entire racial tensions subplot in the show isn't consistent.
@@geosustento8894 so what if she's spoiled now? a spoiled teenager who previously lived life in the margins of society because of racism would not forget that. racism was crazy awful in her era. this is simply a bad decision from the show writers. they could have easily made her remember what it was like while keeping her newfound spoiled nature as the adopted daughter of entitled serial killers. that would have been the logical thing to do with claudia in the show.
@@maggyfrog she's been reborn as a vampire. Inconsistent as it was with Louis's experience, like Eliza explained in the video, vampires are supposed to shed forget their humanity after they turned. She would have already forgotten that life and the episode (and the lack of focus on her past) pretty much shows that that's what happened to her. Therefore whoever she was as a human no longer mattered to her
I also get strong Armand vibes, but I so so hope they do not make Rashid to be Armand. I am waiting to get a more close to book version of Armand like for 25 years - though... BUT that being said, the house in Dubai gives me Night Island vibes, since it was modern, lots of technology etc. It was when Armand embraced the recent times and all this has to offer. Then the Marius paintings... Having Daniel in this setting on top acutally reminds me of that. As for the time in relation to the chronicles I am not so sure, I mean the show basically tossed the canon into the bin and set it on fire - so you never know. But Louis displaying his powers and being comfortable with them, gave me Merrick vibes. And since Merrick was published 2000 and Louis is full on in control and seems okey with his powers for litarally 22 years makes me think it could be an explanation. I Somehow think, events of the VL and QOTD have alread happend - somehow I cannot imagine them happening now. But then, I had difficulies imagining them in the actual nineties ( or 80s in the book) as happening in our world. But as much as I enjoy the show as a separate I also kinda mourn, that we will never get a deep dive into the actual book characters and their own cannon and get it visualized on TV, do not mind little changes here and there. Instead we somehow get copies of shows who sort of based their ledgends on AR universe. Like true blood for example (who in book one even gives a nod to the little coven who lived happily in Louisianna for several decades) the whole dinner scene in ep. 3 was reminding me of TB season 3 (fresh from the farm, blood host etc.). Lestat using the word vegetarian (that did not exist at that time in the 1900s) is a mocking nod to Twighlight and so on (which would be in Lestats character but nevermind). Anyways this show has me feeling all kind of things. I like it, I like the actors, the optics etc. but if it is making up its own characters and just calling them the same - it has me happy and sad at the same time. Some Lestat, some Louis, some Armand is better than nothing - but if Louis and Armand are just not Louis and Armand (in there core, not looks or ethic wise) - well its all twisted, my feelings are all over the place. Maven, you mentioned somewhere else its like a buffet you can pick what you like and leave what you dont. So thank you for that, I will view it like that from now on and try not to hope for anything relating to close to the VC and just follow how this story develops and enjoy it for the eye-candy it is and the little nuggets of actual love between L&L in this show - that are only popping up here and there only all to briefly in all the later books. And I agree - I whished in this show, they would actualy show more of the actual love relation between L&L instead of hinting at it. So if you show kissing and splendit butts in the first ep. - than I want more.
Yeah-I think there is a definite hunger in the fandom for a canon!accurate Armand, ever since the 1990s movie. (Or maybe that's just my own bias talking- I don't know.😅🤷♀️ 🤷😁) I mean, the QotD movie....tried...sort of .. but also failed. And while the 1990s 'Interview' movie!Armand was fantastic in his own ways(Antonio Banderas is a fantastic actor and I love movie!Armand every bit as much as I adore book!Armand just in completely different ways), he was not exactly the Armand we know and love in the books. I wouldn't even care of tv-series!Armand didn't have his book!canon appearance exactly(although I am pretty attached to his auburn hair personally for my own reasons) as long as the character[ization] felt right. Rashid kinda reminds me though of when Anne Rice said once during a FB live that there might be new/original characters who would appear in the tv series that she could maybe use in future books. 👀 Not sure why; he just seems like he could be a character that might have had that potential, if he doesn't actually end up being revealed as an existing character, like Armand. (I mean, the scripts were written not actually planning on her passing away before they could be realized, after all.😿😿) Rashid looks youthful and potentially-angelic enough to be Armand to me, and yet .. I somehow really wish he won't be. The big thing for me, though, was ....how it's kind of implied that Rashid has actually _read_ Claudia's diaries. Who would have had any occasion to read Claudia's diaries, that Louis would have allowed to, or not been in a position to stop from doing so?? 🤔👀
Wait, did they just make Louis and Claudia into a parallel to Bill and Jessica from True Blood? Tormented self-loath vamp punished by getting naive ‘daughter’ who leans into evil blood draining mwahaha vampire powers?
I just finished this episode. I think Claudia acts too young for fourteen (if that was the age) and even when she turns 18yo acts really young (?) ... The big thing that gets me is when Lestat, Louis and Claudia go to the theatre to watch Nosferatu- sometime after, Claudia meets Charlie around 1923. Problem: Nosferatu first played in the U.S. in 1929.
to your point of Claudia acting "too young" : there is no hard and fast rule for maturity. generally speaking teens who are sheltered (as claudia is by louis and lestat) and who are financially privileged (as Claudia certainly was post change) tend to mature more slowly than teens who are just shoved out into the world and expected to behave as little adults.
🤔 ; Were you this hard about the closeness in the book, or movie?... 💭 I always felt like Louis cared about Lestat, It's just that he has resentment for how they got together!., ➡️ Louis liked him, but chose not to go back to Lestat's house. -BUT Lestat went crazy when all his tricks didn't work and went to the church and forced him to be with him!
The entire episode is in Claudia’s point of view. That’s why everything is different, that’s why Louis’ issues with racism and Lestat aren’t shown. Because it’s in her point of view. Please I beg you, watch the behind the scenes stuff.
I had a theory that Rashid is going to take the place of Daniel's character in the books (that way Armand's storyline that we know in the books isn't messed up and we can still have that overall relationship and such), being enthralled with Louis' story as he's talking to Daniel, especially with that line in E2 about serving a God. But this episode had me questioning that because of his gloves, Daniel's questions & observations, and saying "electronic mailbox." Plus, then I heard that the events of ALL the books have already happened at the point of the present with Daniel and Louis' interview, which totally throws my initial theory out the window. haha! I also noticed Lestat's cardigan when they watched Claudia leave in her new outfit. Why is he wearing that? Why does he look like a grandpa? It's a fine cardigan but would not be in Lestat's wardrobe!
"God, Lestat's sweater is hideous---" Excuse, it's his DADLY sweater, he's being a DAD for the moment, thank you.
He can be dadly in something that’s not the color of baby poop!
He's just being Bad Dadly now. Such a shame
I thought he looked quite nice. 😔
100% agree with this.
Buuut, anyhow!
So, at least it's not totally imbalanced, so far ? )
idkk
Lestat "My husband is about to leave me. I fear facing the long decades alone"
Louis running in with a charred Claudia "Let's have a daughter!!!!!"
Lestat "MARRIAGE SAVED!!!"
That's an interesting thought. It definitely stood out to me how happy Louis seemed at certain moments.
@@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 It's hard to imagine him just getting swept up in things like the birthday party scene. D :
Yet he was watching the fire and riots from his window at the end of the previous episode 🤔
@@MavenoftheEventide I've come to accept time passes differently in this universe. A few minutes our time is actually several years for them. Louis took about four years to get Claudia back to his house.
@@MavenoftheEventide maybe because it's from Claudia pov, she choose to omit it for whatever reason idk.
I can’t believe you knew it was Armand
she’s so intellectual in these vampire affairs it didn’t even crossed through my mind he was armand
Perhaps Louis is shown more tender to Lestat now because Daniel is reading from Claudia's journals. Maybe Louis never openly told Daniel about him being all sweet with Lestat out of resentment. But Claudia did write about it as it truly was.
“I’m not sure how I feel about the pleated skirt.” It’s chaffon it has movement.” “Oh not come back here missie
I'm so enjoying this series and your commentary on it! Thank you, Maven!
14 years old for eternity. My god, I don't know who has it worse, Claudia or L&L.
Since the episode is from Claudia's perspective I can see why time is fuzzy and racism is in the background
I run to these reviews!!!! I love your content
i took notice of these things as well. episode 7 was so satisfying with that reveal
Can’t wait for k pop idol lestat
With his hair dyed pink and finger hearts I can't😂
the interview takes place in 2022 so this is after the whole Prince Lestat series, I think everyone is forgetting about these books.
Love your breakdowns XD I feel like the only reason we don't see Louis dealing with much anymore during the Claudia era is that he's become a bit of a recluse outside of Lestat and Claudia: to protect humans from his rash decisions and to protect himself
vampires as "creatures of the…inside" may not be canon, but IS a big mood
Given Louis' love for literature, I believe he is referring to anecdotes he shared (lestat)with Victor Hugo.
It would be a huge new story direction but consistent with Ramses long history of acting as counselor to powerful people
That would certainly be intersting!
@@JRAndrach
the show still can't name him ramses or make it seem like he is ramses if they don't have rights to adapt those books. i think christopher may have a legal way of opposing the show if rashid turns out to be ramses. so, i think he's probably armand with a different story altogether.
I really like your bat earrings! They're wonderful!
@@Nicolacallahan
it still looks emblematic of how little the show has in common with the books. i'm sure the show didn't mean it to look that way, but because the vampires in the books tended to be aesthetes and absolutely adored opulent surroundings, a minimalist louis is somewhat of an antithesis to the vampires' love of beauty.
@@Nicolacallahan
because when anne decided to write more after book 1, she chose lestat as the main character. louis was never her main character in the vampire chronicles.
edit:
also, louis in the books would never bother being pretentious with brutalism or minimalism in the years he was depressed post iwtv. he was genuinely in deep despair about being a vampire that he wouldn't go out of his way wasting effort in surrounding himself with "sleek" surroundings. if he made an effort at all, he would simply go back to his original taste in aesthetics.
SO GOOD!!!! I WATCH THIS EP TWICE ALREADY!!!
I want your hoodie!!!!! I couldnt find it in the show's official online merch store anymore :(
I developed the same hypothesis about Rashid's identity since episode one based on aesthetics (not ethnically, but he was youngish by TV standards) and the fact that he gave vamp vibes.
Enjoying these breakdowns. I know it's a bit out of your channel's subject matter but pls do these for the Mayfair witches show in the new year!
That would make sense since he thinks they’re gods
I am watching the tv series. Rewatched the movie. Now, going to read the books.
Me too, I just broke open my old novels
it's nice to see people getting interested in the books. by the time you're in the 2nd or 3rd, it's a totally intoxicating reading experience.
@@StrawberryShorty actually it is that easy.
@@Food4thought1234 I'm not sure what you mean.
For someone who said she wasn't that interested in Claudia, our Maven certainly seemed to be having fun this time.
They kinda made it sound like this was something he was getting regularly 🤷🏻♀️
Anyhoo, still very much enjoying the ride. So glad we’re getting a season two so presumably we’ll at least get through the events of Interview.
Is there any doubt the transfusion 3:15 is going to be at least spiked with vampire blood?
If it were, Daniel would instantly feel it tho.
if this is how the show is turning daniel into a vampire, it's another blatant change to the lore. shouldn't the person be in the "brink of death" so that when the person receives the vampire blood, that's how the forces actually begin the transformation from human to vampire? technically, the mortal body needs to die for the forces to inhabit the dead body through the "animated vampire blood".
i'm hoping that the show would at least go and try to show this, that daniel has to be brought to the brink of death for the transformation to proceed. otherwise, this is just disregarding the books yet again.
@@beckstheimpatient4135 Maybe, but between Louis and Rashid, I think they could hold him in place if he struggles.
Not gonna lie, I was hoping for a Slavic Armand, but we will see. Keeping an open mind so far
I Love Claudia
Are we just gonna gloss over how she asked if her hymen would grow back?
After decades of seeing Claudia as a child,, I wasn't ready for that shit.
Another great video .
There is so much Vampire series on TV right now that I can't even! ♥ (sure, spread a lot of streaming channels and other channels - but still! )
yes but Interview with the Vampire is the only one worth watching tbh
We're can I get a hoodie and shirt like that
We don’t see Claudia go though any of the additional vomiting and pain Louie did after the transformation so i assume they slipped a bit.
Hmm…good point.
Its his dad. They will easily change him from being poor to rich. Minor change considering the others

Did you hear any reactions from Christopher Rice regarding the ongoing episodes of the AMC?
None whatsoever. Anytime he's questioned, he always says "Please refer all your questions to AMC." And that's it.
I figured if he had anything good to say, he would say it. So I'm guessing there is bad blood between the Rices and this show that they all are contracted to stay silent about.
@@MavenoftheEventide I guess it would be the same reply if Anne was still alive(God I miss her so much!!)
hm so i checked the viewership of the show so far. i know it's only the first season and the show might pick up steam, but as it stands, it doesn't have a ton of viewership right now.
considering amc probably paid a lot to purchase the rights for 15 vc books and 3 mayfair books, i bet they're expecting at least iwtv to have millions of views per episode. i don't know the history of how amc cancels shows, but in other streaming platforms, usually when an expensive IP doesn't make them as much money as they initially projected, that show typically gets cancelled even with a small cult following.
so with the off-chance that the show gets cancelled anytime after season 2 with low viewership, the rights might go back to christopher if amc decides they don't want this IP anymore. with the slim chance that christopher gets the rights back, then i think that's the time he can openly talk about what anne and him really thought about the changes prior to season 1 filming, and chris' own thoughts on the show itself as it aired.
@@maggyfrog well they are releasing it a week early on AMC+ and as per usual we have no idea what the numbers for streaming services are. So it could be a massive hit and we just wouldn't know.
@@4203105
as per wikipedia, eps 1 & 2 are about .6 ~ .5 mil viewers per episode. it's looks a little modest but not so low that it'd immediately get cancelled. comparing it to other book franchises, GoT season 1 (back when most of its viewers are the readers) averaged about 2.2 ~ 2.5 mil per episode. but that's hbo, and amc doesn't have the amount of subs that hbo has. according to netflix, the sandman remained at top 10 worldwide yet they cancelled it after season 1 despite the fans wanting more.
now amc+ announced that their subs increased when iwtv and some other show aired, but half mil viewership looks a little shaky. if the show doesn't attract a significant amount of new subs, it might stagnate at around those numbers. not sure if it's enough to make them the profit margins they were looking for in the long run though. other fan-loved shows get cancelled all the time due to poor viewership.
Originally, they WERE going to do separate single-season mini-series for each book, with their own titles.
@@MavenoftheEventide
i just hope season 2 makes lestat as the rightful main character of the show. i think that's not a lot to ask from the showrunners. it would be strange to watch louis being constantly shoehorned in all the books he wasn't even involved.
sam reid i think is a decent actor and if given the material of the gleeful feline lestat in the books, i have no doubt he can nail it.
@@maggyfrog I believe that Season 2 will be centered on Louis and Claudia WW2 Europe Tour so i feel that the TVL narrative will be for Season 3
I actually love this version of Claudia, I think it's my favorite change they made so far
Great review.
Not enough merch. Need a hat, and scarf, and chair, and wallpaper
Great job analyzing this episode. A couple of things that I took note of after watching this episode
Wait did u say do the little drink? That’s a power?
Only very strong or elder vampires can do it. Young fledglings (like under 500) are too weak to do it unless they had an extremely powerful maker. In the book, Lestat made Louis weak on purpose because Marius told him to keep his fledglings as human as possible, and they both valued humanity so much. Louis was never able to do the little drink until after Lestat gave him the extra powerful blood in Merrick.
@@MavenoftheEventide Does Louis not drink from Daniel at the end of IWTV and leave him alive?
@Indianapolis Wing Chun He left Daniel for dead, and he barely survived by pure gumption alone. He also drank from Claudia, and she somehow managed to survive. The thing is, he can't stop. So if a person manages to survive after he's drained them to the point of death, that's not because he managed to stop early to intentionally LET them live. It's just that they got lucky.
Here's the quote from the book that describes him:
"The modern world doesn't mean anything to Louis.
I think most of the series has already happened. Events in the future books looks to have already happened.
I’m beginning to think that as well.
Is that hoodie no longer available? What is the book? Just a new cover to the actual book?
It’s a notebooks with blank lined paper inside! I’m not sure if it’s available or not, but it got it just off the AMC merch website.
Does anyone know when the next episode drops, is it midnight pacific time on Sunday?
I think the riots might be downplayed since the perspective is coming from Claudia’s diaries. I mean, it makes sense that being turned into a vampire and adopted into a new family would probably become the focus of anyone’s diary. The overall comedic and happy tone might be due to Claudia’s outlook
OH!

Makes me think if "Merrick" Narrative will be part of IWTV series or "Mayfair Witches" Series 🤔
About the Rashid Mystery, i hope that he is not Armand. Like, this is not how Armand acts AT ALL! However i do think that maybe they are on Armand Complex. One can asume that the Palm Islands / Palm Jumeirah are the so called "Night Island" maybe in this AU is not located on Miami
Rashid could be one of Armands companions. Benji. Still being human. Benji did worship Armand.

Armand and Daniel can still meet. I think AMC will age up Armand a bit to to make the pairing work. No way is Armand going to be 17 years old like he is in the books.

I think they both loved each other... AND, Remember in Lestat's speech in the church, he said Louis could be shame free and unapologetically his self! (but now that Lestat forced him into being a vampire, Louis is feeding on animals,(embarrassing) and he hounds him for not feeding on people. (that's not letting someone be unapologetically their self.)😏

🤔
Slave is old latin word. It's the other way around.
I enjoyed this episode, my only issue is that it was too short, and felt they crammed a lot of things in it.
@@nebulous8389 Yes, I agree. I honestly wish all the episode were an hour long like the first one.
Agreed! But l only thing I know is Rashid is not Rashid!
I think we don't see the effect of racism this episode because we're seeing it in Claudia's perspective and she's too self-absorbed to notice it
Like Uncle like niece! Love Lestat but …..
this would only work if claudia was much younger like in the books and the trauma of the transformation affected her memory of being a mortal. but she's a teen here and she would have had tons of memories of discrimination and so she would have at least remembered the chaos even though she had become selfish at this point.
i don't understand why the entire racial tensions subplot in the show isn't consistent.
@@maggyfrog have you met a spoiled teenager?
@@geosustento8894
so what if she's spoiled now? a spoiled teenager who previously lived life in the margins of society because of racism would not forget that. racism was crazy awful in her era. this is simply a bad decision from the show writers. they could have easily made her remember what it was like while keeping her newfound spoiled nature as the adopted daughter of entitled serial killers. that would have been the logical thing to do with claudia in the show.
Bars named some version of "Mary" are a common signal of a gay bar, eg. Hamburger Mary's.
Yeah the first gay establishment I went to in Vancouver as a teen was... Hamburger Mary's.
Man, this show is obsessed with the idea the vampires don't care about killing or being monsters.
(I mean, the scripts were written not actually planning on her passing away before they could be realized, after all.😿😿)
Rashid looks youthful and potentially-angelic enough to be Armand to me, and yet ..
That's exactly what I said!
@@MavenoftheEventide you're so awesome :)
