I've been learning languages for almost two years now, but not effectively. I'll get excited and do too much, burn out, forget stuff, etc. Your video has kind of been a calm reminder to start smaller and work my way up with my languages. All of your tips and guidelines are invaluable to me, thank you!
I have been learning Dutch very irregularly for the past few years but have only ever studied very sporadically with ineffective methods and thus, have only been able to reach an A2 level in the language. In the past few weeks however, I have started dedicating 30 minutes to an hour per day to study, using mainly podcasts, television shows and TH-cam videos as well as my Dutch dictionary for vocabulary. I try and write 1-2 times per week to my family in the Netherlands via Facebook messenger and am already finding that my language skills are improving. I find that I can understand more than I can speak, so I will need to focus on conversing in the language, in the coming months. By the end of this year, I am hoping to reach an upper B1 level in the language and hopefully by next year I can reach an upper B2 level. My biggest problems have been getting too excited about different languages and study them for a week before getting bored and moving on, as well as being embarrassed to speak the language amongst family for fear of not being understood and of course, using ineffective methods but I am hoping that I am now on track to be speaking proficient Dutch by 16 and German by 19 ( I will major in German and History when I go to university in 2 years time).

This is by far the best video I have watched on creating a good study plan, and you provided so many good examples! Would love a video on the language learner profiles :)
These profiles are such a sociology student approach to this topic and I love it! I think a lot of people will find this useful regardless of their level and schedule. Great job!
Thank you Zoe for this helpful video. I am American-Palestinian. I have been living in France for 4 years now and I still have a lot of difficulty because I don't really like the language to being with, but my kids and husband all speak it. I don't like to speak in public because I make too many mistakes. I keep making the same mistakes and I just get discouraged, especially around family members, so I don't want to sound stupid. I want to speak French fluently because I have the privilege of living in the country and because I would like to become a French citizen since my husband and children are. I will definitely watch more of your videos!
I like this level of discussion, many channels are for beginners or discoverers only, but I like the focus on the master goal, which I don’t see many polyglot channels for
Hi Zoe! I'm new here. I really love learning new languages but until now I couldn't reconnect with this passion of mine that has been put aside from a long time ago. You're really an inspiration. I can only hope you keep making this amazing content. You have gained another faithful follower. Thanks a lot!
This was extremely helpful for me! Thank you so much for making this video! As a new Korean learner as well as a freshman in high school, having this vid show how to set up an effective study plan is really useful for me! You have such a concise and easy to understand way of explaining things! Seeing you show and explain how you juggle such a busy schedule has given me motivation to be able to strive under pressure! Thank you again!
Zoe, thanks so much for this video. A light bulb went off in my head as I've been wandering aimlessly in my language study for about a year. Your video made me realize I'm not applying any of the goal setting and time management skills I used to earn my Master's and PhD. There was no school establishing a structure and timeline for my language learning and I didn't bother creating one of my own. This video made me realize why I've been lost and not really making progress. If you don't know where you are going, and you don't have a plan on how to get there, it's easy to get lost. The journey then becomes more of wandering around in a maze rather than traveling down a highway to a destination.
I’ve been studying Korean for 5years. However, I was very inconsistent and confused on how I should go about studying. I recently became an Elementary Music Teacher and strategizing and planning is definitely what I need to work on through the summer. Thank you for your guidance.
i loved this video , and you are right in everything , I have 6 months learning english and I just started study french , one of my targets is to be polyglot . and I Practice with all those videos and at the same time you inform me about many important things for learning, you inspire me a lot to go ahead with my learning, really appreciate your advices.
Excelent video! I have wanted to learn French for years and have started a few different programs. I am determined to learn but have never been able to stay with it. I am convinced that having a detailed, written and realistic plan as outlined here is the way for me. Thank you Zoe. This is the BEST approach to learning a language I have ever seen. Thank you! Maybe if schools taught his way more people would speak multiple languages.
Hi, Zoe. This video is the sincronicity I needed to get back in the right path as I listen to my target language, French, every single day but still have difficulty to write or speak confidently. Of course my comprehension level is much higher even though I've been a bit unfocused on my main goal of becoming B2!! Therefore I shall thank you for sharing these tips and that beautiful energy. Greetings from Spain!!
This video couldn't have come at a better time. I've been scouring the internet for good language learning material and busy drawing up a study plan. I've already been immersing myself mostly in Spanish to get back to the level I was previously and more, but I need to structure that and all the other bits and pieces I'm learning. I just love languages and you and Steve Kauffman, Olly RIchards, and various other polyglots have really inspired me to learn all my languages properly. This time I'm enjoying it so much more as I'm not delving into loads of grammar and verb conjugations etc. I'm just enjoying it so much, mostly listening at the moment and following some of Olly and Steve's recommendations. I'm learning so much more so fast and even watched a movie in Spanish the other night with no subtitles. I was able to understand quite a lot. This is way more fun!
OMG ! Hi I am from French Polynesia and I love how you explain and give tips about learning new languages and stuff ! Now I know that I was doing it the wrong way it's been 2 years now that I just loose hope in learning other languages ! Actually I speak 4 languages Tahitian / French / English and Spanish because I love Asian culture I wanted to learn Japanese Chinese or Mandarin and Korean but now with your videos I get more excited by redoing it and start again once more ! JUST INSPIRING Thank you soooooo much !
Hi Zoe, thank you for another inspiring and helpful video! ✨️ I liked the way you separated between discoverer and master levels here. Also demonstrating how to create a study plan was very useful - I find I lost my structure the last 2 weeks and have been aimlessly studying French, like you mentioned, which results in feeling frustrated and that I'm not learning as effectively. So, a great reminder for me to go back to my plan and persist with structure and consistency in routine! Merci encore et j'espère tu vas bien 😊
Thank you so much for your video. I have been learning English for two years. First of all, I have learned two languages at the same time but have not worked for me. I am focusing on one language now. It is perfect. My goal is two dividends in one year. You are tips and guidelines useful for me.
No meu caso, quero fazer mestrado fora.
to be honest your different videos really helps to me never give up and continue learning immediately several languages like to Turkish language 🇹🇷 and also improving English language, and for talk with different other people from Poland 🇵🇱, I'm learning Polish language and in my opinion that amazing that you're can speaking in so many languages and you really inspiring to me go next to my all goals.
Im learning ASL currently, and want to make my plan more concrete. I love this video because most videos explaining this subject are either to hands on and have no room for flexibility or are to much of a lecture with no sure steps to take you forward. This was a perfect balance of both thankyou so much good luck with your languages
Danke sehr Zoe!!! Du hilfst mir so so viel!!
Merhaba Zoe! I love learning new languages, and have been learning Turkish for four years now. I definitely started out as a discoverer, but now I want to move on to masters as I am in a masters program where I am using Turkish sources. This video was super helpful for me in planning my academic language journey! Çok teşekkür ederim!
Zoe, thank you for the video. You are so eloquently spoken and you share real advice that utilizes science. I thought I'd heard every bit of advice, the same thing on and on again from the internet, but you contributed something new. Thank you

Hi Zoe, in the past I have attempted to learn French, German and Spanish, but because I never followed a proper plan I failed to complete either of them and dropped out midway. Now, I am planning to learn Arabic, hence, I thought that it's better to look for a language expert, and found your video. I am sure if I am able to be regular (even with 30min lessons on daily basis), I should be able to progress effectively. Thank you for your suggestions. Cheers!!
Thank you so much for the video I am learning 3 languages: Arabic for religion, English for life and Korean as a hobby,, I haven't think I needed a plan,,,, and I realize now that it was a mistake

This was definitely one of the most useful and helpful video I have ever watched regarding study plans. I have been feeling very confused these past few months because I had no plan or routine at all: I would one day watch a video, another day study some vocab, etc. and I get frustrated of the lack of consistency I have when studying my target language. This video has really been enlightening and I really hope to use what I've learned from this video and implement it in my study plan. Thanks again :D
I really love this video! i have been watching videos about language plans for a few days, because i was feeling a little down and desmotived about my own way to study and not being consistenly in it. So, this kind of videos are helping me a lot, seriously! Thank you so much

Thank you so much, this for me was the best video out there on creating a language study plan. So detailed, well explained and really useful tips and strategies. You are really hard working & it shows you really have to put the work in to learn a language well. Thank you for taking the time to create these videos! ❤️
Thank you for sharing this video! It can be honestly overwhelming to learn a new language from scratch and I appreciate the honest insights that you have shared in this video. As someone who likes learning to be more or less structured, I love how you went over general guidelines to keep in mind when creating a language study plan and shared your own personal examples. Just subscribed! ^^
i am currently learning german, been taking a 3hour course 4 days a week, i can understand the grammer i can understand my homework but i still cant speak a sentence in german or understand anyone and my goal is to master german for academic purposes, this video came at a good time cause even after a month of german and i dont feel like i improved at all and i feel discouraged :(, so thank you for your advice
Do you have a life, outside of language leaning? You work so hard. But I guess if you are truely happy and passionate about your work, then it does not feel like work to you. Very inspiring, and amazing videos, please keep going, and I hope you make any video ethnography someday
I admire you for being my idol. You are so elegant, and good at beauty and fitness. Moreover, you have a logical mindset to study and work, even the way you share in these videos is so effective. Thank you so much for your channel 🥰
this video was very helpful, I'm learning English, Korean, and Japanese, I didn't have a foundation on how to study a language so I didn't have much progress with my studies
I think this video is very usefull! I learn German for now. For my profession I need B2 level. I have courses 5 time a week for 5 hours! But I can't say that it's effective( Soon I will be having A2 exam but I still struggle with grammar a lot! For now I think that reading, watching video and writing an essay is best exercise for me. Thank you!

When I saw those books on the shelves, I realized the huge difference between you and me
Wow, the fact you can speak 7 languages AND do a PHD/lecture at uni in parallel is absolutely amazing, you are an inspiration!
And this is why almost everyone cannot do seven languages at once.
*1st step: Research the language*
*2nd step: Prepare the tools*
1. A main learning resource (book, website youtube channel)
2. An alphabet book or app
3. An excel table or notebook
4. A spaced repetition app (Anki, Quizlet)
5. A dictionary (with audio and conjugasion feature)
*3rd step: Choose a resource*
CRITERIAS:
1. With good quality and video
2. Each lesson has a short conversation, grammar points, a word list
*4th step: Make a study plan and know when to practice with a native speaker*
STUDY PLAN VIDEO:
th-cam.com/video/mS5Y69v0X7s/w-d-xo.html
WHEN TO START SPEAKING WITH NATIVES?
- When you have a basic structure of the language
- At least 100 high frequency words and basic grammar concept (pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, nouns)
HOW TO STUDY A LESSON?
1. Listen to the audio
2. Check new words and grammar points
3. Repeat with the audio
Add new words to the lesson
Ex: Just learned how to say ‘good’, how can i say ‘bad’?
Just learned how to say “He is a student”, how can i say it using ‘I’, ‘You’, ‘Us’?
- Make simple sentences from the beggining, with the words you learned from the lesson
- Insert this sentences in your spaced repetition app (Anki, Quizlet), and review them
- Don’t review just the word you want to, but the whole sentence
-When you see a new verb, don’t just learn it alone, but learn it’s conjugasion
TIP: Make sentences that relate to your daily life
HOW TO STUDY GRAMMAR?
- Don’t write everything down
- Don’t just copy, make phrases on your own
Thank youuu

I like this level of discussion, many channels are for beginners or discoverers only, but I like the focus on the master goal, which I don’t see many polyglot channels for
As an Iranian i wish i learn Japanese like you. You are amazing and beautiful.
You’re a very intelligent person, Zoe. I speak Greek and English ... and I’m studying Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese!
I speak 6 laguages because I study with your plan♥thank you very much zoe
Thank you making this video. I have been aimlessly trying to learn a language for a long time. Now I see where I have gone wrong and can do better.
Good luck
Hi Zoe, thank you for another inspiring and helpful video! ✨️ I liked the way you separated between discoverer and master levels here. Also demonstrating how to create a study plan was very useful - I find I lost my structure the last 2 weeks and have been aimlessly studying French, like you mentioned, which results in feeling frustrated and that I'm not learning as effectively. So, a great reminder for me to go back to my plan and persist with structure and consistency in routine! Merci encore et j'espère tu vas bien 😊
Hi Zoe
You inspired me to learn languages now I'm learning English I'm intermediate and spanish I'm beginner
You’re absolutely right, vision is KEY! If you don’t have a vision before you start learning you could end up wasting a lot of time and resources.
Your video ideas , set up , quality and everything gets better & better 😍 !
😉😉😉
your speaking English is also improved a lot comparing with one year ago.

I started to learn Japanese last year and I’m trying to figure out how can i learn more efficiently and this video has helped me a lot. Thank you
Thank you Zoe, you're the first TH-cam blogger which I pressed the bell on the channel❤️
@@tychen3191 Danke sehr!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you
I feel happy when you said you learn farsi😁. I live in Iran and farsi is my mother tongue. It would be my pleasure if I can help you learn it faster or better🌸
Thank you Zoe for this video 💗! I'm gonna use your advices to learn English and improve my skills^^ they're really helpful
Probably the best video I've ever seen on the topic so far! Thank you!! 💜
Cheers!!
Good luck

This was definitely one of the most useful and helpful video I have ever watched regarding study plans. I have been feeling very confused these past few months because I had no plan or routine at all: I would one day watch a video, another day study some vocab, etc. and I get frustrated of the lack of consistency I have when studying my target language.
This video has really been enlightening and I really hope to use what I've learned from this video and implement it in my study plan.
Thanks again :D
💪💪💪💪
Where are you from?
This is so inspiring!☺💗 How do you manage learning and even improving languages while doing your PhD?! Unbelievably impressive!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent practical, and academic, advice. I have a great-interest in words and music. I wish you good-luck in your endeavours.
I love learning languages as a hobby
I have leaned English by myself and now I'm with the french ❤️
I really love this video! i have been watching videos about language plans for a few days, because i was feeling a little down and desmotived about my own way to study and not being consistenly in it. So, this kind of videos are helping me a lot, seriously! Thank you so much

Hi Zoe.
Excellent. I love the old Chinese wisdom: "I'm not giving you a fish. I'm teaching you how to fish".
I really appreciated the subtitles in french! they are really helpful for connecting the English words to french since I'm learning it!
Thank you so much for this video, Zoe. I have a lot of thinking to do because I have some lofty language goals. This is a great help!! ❤️❤️❤️

So detailed, well explained and really useful tips and strategies.
You are really hard working & it shows you really have to put the work in to learn a language well.
Thank you for taking the time to create these videos! ❤️
❤️❤️❤️
This was very helpful! Thanks for sharing, now I am going to make a plan!
Thank you!
