    That is a very nice example. At age 17 in 1998, I purchased one from a retired dentist. The car was all original, aside from a repainted door due to the wife coming in and out and hitting the door with her purse. The only thing I notice is that the opera windows in the back are missing the Lincoln logo in the middle of the windows. From the factory, the windows had a Lincoln logo in the middle of the window. Otherwise, it's fantastic. Certain models didn't have the opera windows. Maybe these were added afterwards? Or maybe the top was replaced and one of the original windows was broken during the process? Regardless, it's crazy that the clock still works!

    My mom owned this exact year, make/model/color. Soooooo smooth going down that Az highway. Could easily go 90 and never feel it. Moved to OHIO, it was gone within a year with the f*kin rust. the humidity caused the well-known electrical issues. I still cry over it and wish I would have had the money to keep and maintain it. This is a beautiful ride, would definitely buy one again if it was fully restored. I will say though, when you started it up, it was never that loud/muffler. Original start-up was always whisper quiet, so I can tell that was replaced or upgraded. Never that loud. Thx for vid.

    This was my 2nd New car. Coming from a 76 Buick Electra Landau coupe. I was really impressed. Couldn't afford the designer series but, I really enjoyed it. Til it came for parking. Gas was a bit less than my Buick. Moonroof, VOGUE tyres, etc. Never til today,have I experienced such a smooooooooooth & isolated ride. Land yachts were the move. Imagine them with today's technology. I'll take it

    Having & enjoying a '78 MARK V in l8
    '77. Those rims Ur wearing were Color Coordinated. Those look like the Diamond Jubilee set. Mine came w/o paint. I never have driven a quieter nor smoother riding car. Personal Luxury Coupes were very special, many were beautiful. I sure miss it. Njoy $$$$

    I had a 79 with a 460 and the same turbine wheels. Smoothest ride ever. Why did I sell it? Got a Town Car and my garage was not big enough. Who would have imagined the cars are getting smaller and all look alike?

    The big block 460 V-8 is always preferred over the standard 400 V-8 which was rather underpowered. The wiper blades must be dried out and should be replaced because they are not dispersing water. Also, the brittleness of the woodgrain trim on the steering wheel is typical of anything made by FoMoCo at that time. And the deterioration of the woodgrain trim on the passenger side is also typical for a Mark V. I have a 1976 Town Car which is a superb machine but those cars should have used real wood considering how expensive they were.

    • @styldsteel1
      @styldsteel1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Common misconception people have. Please no offense. Motor companies such as Mercedes Benz do actually use real burl wood. Take note of the amount of burl there is in a Mercedes. Very, very little m why? Because it's very very expensive. The average price of a Mark V was between 15 and 18 Grand new. Imagine if real burl was used.

    • @SpockvsMcCoy
      @SpockvsMcCoy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@styldsteel1 The 1961 to 1963 Lincoln Continental used either real walnut veneers or aluminum trim in their interiors. Also, the 1970 and 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III used real walnut veneers. Switching to a woodtone vinyl applique was a cost cutting decision. The Mark V was more cheaply made than the Mark IV which was more cheaply made than the Mark III which was more cheaply made than the Mark II. FoMoCo got away with lowering those quality standards because sales increased over time. Over the last thirty years or so both Cadillac and Lincoln added back real wood trim with their fit and finish improving.

    • @styldsteel1
      @styldsteel1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SpockvsMcCoy Since Continental merged with Lincoln in 1958, still by 61 nothing much changed as far as interior quality and workmanship. I think auto manufacturers really went crazy with test tube wood in the 80s and 90s. I mean really crazy, and without shame. Look at the 1980s Eldorados. Looking at the Mark V production numbers leveled out at 228,262, looks like back then the consumer didn't mind much. Just for comparison, 48,591 Mark IVs were sold. (production numbers sourced form the LCOC lincoln Continental owner club) Interesting history.

    • @SpockvsMcCoy
      @SpockvsMcCoy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@styldsteel1 Yes, the 1979 to 1985 Cadillac Eldorado had poor fit and finish with cheap shiny fake wood trim but sales were strong because the overall styling was popular. Both General Motors and FoMoCo took their customers for granted when they cheapened their cars during that era. Now Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus have more sales in the U.S. than both Cadillac and Lincoln.
