I remember watched this match, Federer shots was so powerful but he was a little mentally instable in this match . This outfit is for me one of the most beautiful of roger collection. Thanks for the highlights

Think he always looked more well dressed on the court than anyone else, so handsome too. Some wild shots from him here though. Thankyou Raz, keep them coming.

This match of many times forgotten, as first round matches at a slam often are, but it was a gem performance. Roger played great at the 2011 US Open. He played outstanding tennis in the following rounds against Sela, Cilic, Monaco and Tsonga. He also played a brilliant match in the semifinal with Djokovic when he again took a 2-0 lead with Djokovic, but unfortunately, demons from 2010 came back at the wrong time. Still, he was the only one to take the first 2 sets of Djokovic that year in the Slams, and he did it twice. 2011 was a bit of a weird year for Roger. He was oscilating between fantastic performances like at the French Open and last 3 tournaments of the year which he won and poor games, like the ones lost in Monte Carlo, Wimbledon, Cincy and Montreal.

Mostly it's unsaid physical issues behind the scenes. They don't show it but those injuries and issues keep hurting their game.

Interesting to watch an old match like this compared to the 2025 Australian Open. The balls and court here look sooo much faster.

I always wondered if there was a reason for him being so agressive out of nowhere and the next match returning to normal.
Like he was in a bad mood because he fought with Mirka or his agent.

Roger avoided injuries and energy by playing super offensive tennis.

Either the courts have become a lot slower or the guys used to play smoother. It seems to me that the balls were much faster. In general, the game was extremely high pressure.
