Arguably one of the best sailing channels on TH-cam. Your technical content is really educational and very thorough. Great footage, sound and visual clarity - so well done! ❤
Thanks! I'm glad you found that part interesting. It’s important to avoid collision of course, but in this instance we don’t believe our first option should be to get out of their way - as Richard explained. If we hadn’t alerted them they may have hit the island.
Hello Jude and Richard. Thanks for sharing your journey with us all. A couple of questions:- how did you come up with the name Helios? How did you decide on the logo? All the best Richard 🇬🇧👍❤️ SV Zonda
Hi Richard, we met in January 2020 and both had children at home so remained living separately (at some distance from each other). So we only got together on weekends at a little cabin I had at a nudist club just out of Melbourne. It’s where we spent every weekend and holiday. It was our paradise in a beautiful natural setting. It’s where we fell in love. The club is called Helios. The logo? We used Fivr and put in lots of descriptors for the feel we wanted. We got lots to choose from and just liked the simplicity of it. Very happy.
Regarding Jude's explanation of the right of way rules, first rule is to avoid collision. I always assume the other vessel will do the wrong thing and so always just keep clear. If you are racing its different, but a collision while cruising can spoil you whole day. - Love your channel - have cruised a bit around Malta, Italy Greece Turkey - brings back fab memories. Keep having fun.
Hi, could not agree more, avoiding the situation is always the best rather than relying on the other person to do the right thing. In this situation we were hard on the wind and had an island to leeward so the options were not good to easily avoid. It is not clear in the video but we turned on the motor and after signaling we then turned hard to starboard to avoid a collision and only after they jumped up from below and reduced their speed could we resume our course. I am sure if I had not alerted them they would have hit the island. So glad you are enjoying the channel. Regards Jude and Richard
Thanks! I have a big smile because I’m so happy 😁. I certainly got some worried responses when they heard of my plans. Such a big change. But they knew I’m brave and strong and will be fine. And what a life I have now. I’m so lucky.
@@sailinghelios2023 You, and your man Richard, are beautifully bold! I envy him, honestly. Please be careful in bad weather, and a Merry Christmas to you both! I am of the same age as you, and I find you two remarkable.
Yes, this is a good method and we use this all the time, even with the AIS. We especially use this with large ships to track them from a long way off when we are on passage but it is a great method to eye-ball boats that are close.
Hi! I have a dream - to sail around the world with my dog and experience life on the open sea. But there's one thing I’m missing - a sailboat. I can’t afford one, but I truly believe that with the right boat, my dog and I could create unforgettable memories, exploring new places together. If you have a yacht you no longer use or need, I’d be forever grateful if you could consider giving it to us. We promise to care for it and it would mean the world to us. Thank you for reading!

Saludos Judas y Richard
Dear Jude , I admire your overwhelmingly beautiful body shape behind the wheel). You were born to wear bikiny! Christmas time is near - I wish you to keep growing into such a lovely princess with the voice of the Goddess.
Being in the right is not necessarily the right thing to do. As a motorcyclist (and a sailor) I knew many guys who were hospital with broken legs who were not at all comforted by the fact that they were in the right when a car pulled out on them. My view is that you just stay out of everyone’s way by making a very small alteration of course (or speed if under engine) long before it becomes time to worry about a risk of collision.

Looking good you two. How did you meet? Are you able to make enough money from youtube to pay for your adventures? Ever get a hotel room in port? Be safe out there as the weather turns.
Hi, we met online in our fifties and are making the most of our beautiful relationship. It actually doesn’t cost as much as many think to live our lifestyle but we still don’t make enough on TH-cam to cover costs. We also earn through direct support with our Sailing Helios Crew where we have other content. It’s explained on our website www.sailinghelios.com. Thanks!
Thanks! I do have quite a few bikinis. Do you mean the red pair with little golden dolphin charms? That’s a Lisa Blue set - a swimwear designer I went to school with.
Not our thing, but we do have other content that doesn’t meet TH-cam’s dress code. It’s more of a naturist vibe. Check out naturally.sailinghelios.com. Or our website www.sailinghelios.com
Excellent yachting content and visuals. One of you best to date, for sure.

At this age, no less- to throw away Security, for Adventure. I applaud you both.
Best wishes. Christmas greetings to you.

We always used “fixed bearing” to detect and avoid collision.

I think my wife and I should do this, I was born in the water. But I can't get her past the lagoon.
Keep trying. We meet lots of couples out here having the times of their lives.
