I think it started when Trump characterized mainstream media as "fake news." This threatened the propaganda machine that allowed our corrupt leaders to operate in secret without media pushback. The people with real power did not like this potential to be undermined, so they threw all their money and influence behind the democrats who were so offended by Trump's locker room talk and non-politically correct way of speaking that they would do anything to muzzle him.

It’s the Matriarchy’s growing influence on the left. The mommy state values the group over the individual, so the emphasis is on group cohesion over individual rights. 😢
It's been *_way_* more than "10 or 20 years." I saw this coming way back in the early 90's when "hate speech" laws were being adopted and a book like _Huckleberry Finn_ (a screed _against_ slavery and racism--by a Southerner!) was being pulled from libraries because it had the N-word in it.
The right to free speech to me is an absolute necessity for a non tyrannical standard of living. It's patently clear that the governments pretty much everywhere now KNOW this, and it's imperative for their population controlling agendas to deny us this basic but essential freedom. Regards from the UK where it's VERY much on our treacherous politician's "to do list ".
The administration then was mostly made up of people born in the 20s through 40s who actually believed in free speech. They've all died or been replaced by outright censorious Marxists.
There’s always been an authoritarian part on the far-left, but it seeped into the mainstream left over time, as the left in general became culturally dominant.
I don't agree with Vivek on many public policy issues, but I admire the way he stood up for pro-Palestinian students' right to protest on college campuses. "Bitchy" Ron DeSantis started telling a crowd at a Republican debate that he planned to crack down on these kids and Vivek, despite some boos from the crowd, insisted they had a right to protest Israel.

With the current craze of Hollywood doing remakes, I’ve long had this thought of how hilarious it would it be if they remade the People vs. Larry Flint but made the pro-censorship people out to be the good guys. There are definitely some clear commonalities between Larry Flynt and Trump. There’s a vulgar rich buffoon archetype. Rodney Dangerfield in “Back to School” is another great example. Hollywood should remake that one too 😂😂😂
And here in lies the problem. It only matters now that this affects him directly. Not all the other unconstitutional, criminal and just plain ignorant agenda items that have stepped their way to 1A and 2A. And he probably still is against 2A. The package is a whole.

The Biden/Harris administration created the Disinformation Governance Board. Do some research. Their administration also instructed Facebook to censor and block posts about COVID vaccine hesitancy and anything related to suspicion of the 2020 election results.
