With the new update for The Noise, seeing how they adapted all of the animations for an entirely new character with a new personality genuinely showcases the excellence of this game’s animation and visual flare. While still unhinged in many ways, you can tell The Noise isn’t quite as unhinged as the paranoid, raging Italian of Peppino. He’s instead a snarky, sly, egotistical madman that exudes confidence in most situations he’s thrown in. While Peppino is fighting for his life in hell climbing the tower, Noise is going through mowing down anyone he can just for the fun of it. It genuinely is such a fantastic display of characterization.
Peppino's animations really intensely emphasize the two main parts of his character, horrified and anxious italian man and absolutely unstoppable juggernaut of rage, every single ones of his attack animations are so powerful and angry like all the enemies insulted his grandma, and whenever he gets hit he whines like a dog, i love this superhuman italian guy so much
one of my favorite animations for peppino is the idle animation in RRF, the fact that the devs cared enough to make an entirely different idle animation for just one ice level already makes it good, but combined with how funny it looks, and how exaggerated it looks, it shows how cold the level really is. sad how most people don't notice it.
As an artist, I find this game’s pixel art to be genuinely beautiful. Most pass it off as funny but sloppy and silly, but the amount of creativity and effort and time and detail there is to every chaotic frame is something wonderful to behold.
From what I've heard, from the more than 5000 animations Peppino has in the folders, only like 1500 of them are used in the final game and the rest being from scrapped content and stuff. This is the case for most of the characters, really. For example, the cheeseslime's bat animation 6:06 was from a scrapped mechanic called "heat meter", where the enemies would be more agressive for how well you played the level.
I played both Cocoon (the indie game that won) and Pizza Tower Both are great games, but Cocoon is nowhere near Pizza Tower in style and personality Every second of Pizza Tower kept me engaged and hungry for the next thing that got thrown at me Cocoon also kept me curious about the next world and boss and how the other worlds would come into play But the entire game was just a slow slog through everything Pizza Tower definitely deserved indie GOTY TL;DR: Learn to read.
