How we set up ELECTRIC AIR CONDITIONING in our 1300 hp road-going race car

  • Yes, I am one of those people who wants their car to do EVERYTHING.. Go fast, have a stereo, be comfortable, look good, and retain all the modern conveniences like electric windows, power steering, ABS, cruise control, central locking and above all else AIR CONDITIONING!
    Products featured available here: www.streetfx.c...
    If you've ever been to the track on a hot day, or driven your "track" weekend hack on the road, in the sweltering sun - you will know just how "old" it gets, and you're most likely going to give up that enjoyment for your nice cool air conditioned daily driver.
    OK, I know what you're thinking, that I am some spoiled brat - but believe me, as you get a bit older, sweating your butt off in your car, while taking the mrs to a function is most certainly not desirable. Not to mention, that by the time you get there, you probably stink of sweat mixed with E85...
    The other plus to retaining air conditioning is the front windshield DE-MISTER. These work by drying the air with the air conditioning cranked, and even with the heater on while the AC is turned up, you will de-mist your windscreen. Handy for those cold mornings or evenings.
    Anyway, over the course of the 86 build, we received hundreds of questions about how we retained AC in such a heavily modified car. Obviously when you start doing engine swaps, adding things like dry sumps and so forth, space becomes limited, not to mention you want your intercooler and radiator getting a healthy dose of unadulterated cool air forced into it, rather than having to first go through a bent up old AC condenser (which sits in front of the radiator).
    So, in this episode we go over the entire configuration of what we used. This system can be as simple as merely swapping your compressor for an electric one and retaining the rest of your factory condensers, heat exchangers and receiver drier.. OR you can do what we did and relocate your condenser to the back (we mounted ours under the floor)..
    If you are interested in this product, shoot us an email to sales@streetfx.com.au, we ship worldwide and can offer trade pricing for companies.

    Oh this is nice, perfect for MPV also.
    Combine that electric compressor with solar panels and battery that put in roofbox.
    A cool way to stay cool under the hot bright sun on the parking lot without using a single drop of petrol.

    Why have a never heard of these? This sounds like the answer to my 1990 bar door suburban. It came with rear AC but I’m looking at ways I can modernize the system. I’m thinking about upgrading the front AC on a sanden compressor and then do this for the rear AC. It’d definitely make the AC colder coming out of the rear because it no longer will be running in the hot engine bay and those stupid long AC lines.

    Great setup. I’ve been thinking about doing an electric A/C compressor for an air cooled Porsche 914. I’m trying to figure out how to do an electric heating system for the cars as well to get rid of the heat exchanger exhaust system and make a better more reliable HVAC system. The car isn’t driven in freezing conditions but is sometimes driven when it’s cold enough that you need heat but the standard exhaust heat exchanger heating system used by air cooled cars like older Porsches and VW’s doesn’t work very well and can give off exhaust fumes inside the car from a leaking system and also restricts horsepower by limiting the design options of the exhaust system. Without needing heat exchangers you can run better flowing headers which adds horsepower. Running an electric A/C compressor and electric heating coils of some sort would only require a high output alternator which doesn’t really create any more resistance than a regular alternator and A/C compressor does. Hopefully I can figure something out and get a good electric HVAC system set up.

    • @HappyfoxBiz
      @HappyfoxBiz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      because the compressor is in the rear of the vehicle it will help with the weight ratio with the front and rear, you will prefer to have a well balanced car while racing not just in weight reduction but also the part where the control of the vehicle is easier, hence why many manufacturers are now putting as much things as possible in the boot starting with the battery.
