You can't get sick watching & learning about these magnificent Buick automobiles, Thank you so much my buddy Lou for making the effort to present such wonders❤
Buicks hold a special place in my heart, my mom learned to drive in a 39 that belonged to my grandfather. He gave her that car and she would never get anything but a Buick after that. In my lifetime she had a 59 wagon (angriest looking car ever) a 64, a 68, a 74 all Electra 225s 79 Last one was a 79 Lesabre. Thanks for the ride, keep them coming 👍
Hi Pat, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Mom driving your Grandfathers car and all the other Buicks too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This is an amazing car. The waterfall grill Buicks are some of the nicest looking cars from the postwar era. This one having a 3 speed is pretty scarce. I own a 1950 Super Riviera myself. 56k original miles.

Hi Michael, I have a convertible, and I like the top down. When the Care Taker is interested in taking the top down, we'll take it down. When they would prefer to keep the top up, that's ok too as long as they are willing to share their car with us :-) Lou
Bold grille, like the colour, nice ornamentation, with chrome bits, wonderful styling when GM was at the peak of their game, amazing that back in the day you could just walk in and buy one. Those were the days of cheap gas and insurance so you could really enjoy your ride! This one is better than new I would say Lou! Graphic designers were a huge part of marketing in that era!
Hey Lou, This is one of the very best cars you've shown! What an amazing rare car! The only other 1949 car i know of with hydraulic windows / seats is the top of the line Cadillac. Tiger.
Hi, Lou! Yes, I was definitely reminded of "Rain Man" when I saw the thumbnail for this video, although that car was a Roadmaster. It was in 1949 that Buick first introduced the portholes on the fenders, which became a marque identifier for many years hence, and also the year it brought out their first hardtop models, called Riviera. Olds and Cadillac did the same that year. Many thanks to you and Dennis for this classic ride!
Hi Ramon, Happy to read you enjoy the "Most recognizable grille in motor car history" :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
That's how a Buick should look!! No mistaking it for a Hyundai. When I was a teenager I had a 47 Buick. I remember that the battery was a yard long and you started it by pushing on the gas pedal.
Hi JWelchon, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Make sure to watch the commercials (or at least the ones you can) before the video because that is how I get paid, and that way I can keep sharing with you. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hat’s off to this gentleman as these old beautiful Buicks are almost impossible to restore (almost impossible to find replacement parts). Just the trim parts alone, which there are no after market replacements, would put a dent in anyone’s bank account. A real sweet heart! That’s what I call design!! Thx again Lou!!

Very nice, indeed! I remember the movie, I remember the car, but Dennis' version is definitely the real deal! Thanks for taking us along for the ride too, Lou.
What a beautiful 1949 Buick Super 56C. I love the sound of the car when it winds out through the gears! L absolutely love that moan! The inline 8-cylinder engine sounded awesome! As smooth as silk! I also love the color of it as well! What a sweetheart! That waterfall grille is definitely Buick! A real beauty Lou!
You and Dennis should have wore some faux ZZ Top beards and cheap sunglasses and drove around in this hottie! But hey - I'm sure this dream machine had your mind in a whirl and the ZZ crew was the last thing on your mind. I'd probably have not thought of it either had I been there. Rawkin awesome ride! And you rawk, too Lou! But most importantly - Dennis owns that hottie! Oh yeah! I give er Two WoWs and a Whoa-Mawma!
They seldom had to be downshifted, too. If you come around the turn in the road just step on the gas in 3rd gear and it takes off like an automatic. I'd bet the downshifts to second in this test drive were not needed.
Just a beautiful car. Jewelry is the correct description for the brightwork I would say. The gauges remind me of my Grandpa's old watch. Great car. On a funny note, you should have told Dennis that Dad let's you drive in the driveway.. LOL. (Rainman reference) Thank you for sharing.
Hi Russell, Happy to read you enjoy this beautiful car :-) Glad this one brings memory of Grandpa's watch. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Hi Lou, Another fine presentation on your part. It`s obvious that this strikingly Buick, has undergone an extensive restoration. Keep up the great work and all the best for the new year. Brian
That car is a beautiful piece of Automotive History. Show beautifully redone and restored such beautiful colors inside and out the engine sound just like brand new the engine seem to have a lot of get up and go for a fireball V8. Look like it just came out of the showroom from 1949. He has such wonderful Buicks in his collection it's always wonderful to see what he has next. I enjoyed the Ride Along Lou that was wonderful the hood on that car look like it was 80 ft long. Could you imagine a car weighing almost 3 tons that's a lot of car. Just a wonderful outstanding unit and I huge piece of Automotive History. Thanks for sharing Lou it was gorgeous I enjoyed this video!
Hi Steve, Happy to read you enjoy this "beautiful piece of Automotive History" :-) You're right, it's like stepping right back into 1949. My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
The actual curb weight on the 49 Super convertible was 3985 lbs. according to George Dammann's "70 Years Of Buick." I'm sure the shop manual would also confirm that weight.

Must have been a real "powderkeg" w/ Dynaflow. Probably found yourself resorting to the use of manual "Low" rather frequently. Was very surprised that the '49 brochure I found listed the frame specs. The dimensions of the box section (I assume at largest point) AND thickness of the steel. I assume these figures are for sedans, no mention of convertibles specifically. Many 49 Supers came with Dyan-Flow. It's nice this one is a "stick shift job" as the factory called it. These cars perform really well with standard transmissions and the silent helical gears. I had a 49 with stick and it was a pleasure to drive. I now have a 50 Special with stick that's mechanically about the same as a 49. The 49 Super and Roadmaster was a 1-year-only body style.

g bridgeman... Thanks for the observation on the body style. Thought these were the most beautiful of all GM cars of the period. Sad that this lean & sleek design didn't see at least maybe a 3yr run. Always thought the "heavy handed" re-design of the '50-53 was a step backward. Kind of a bloated & "clunky" look with the lowered fender lines similar to the "pregnant elephant" look of Packard.

As I was born in 1949, I have an interest in these cars, but haven’t been able to afford something like this. I see them at Buick Club of America events and have to resist drooling over them!! These old Buicks are so reliable, that many of the owners drive long distances in them to various events.
This was also the car driven by ‘Jane Wyman’ in 1954’s ‘Magnificent Obsession.’ Her’s was powder blue over red interior. Interesting that the rear wheels are set wider than the front due to the rear protruding fenders.👏👏
Hi Dennis & Lou, my brother has the same name "Dennis" • No • "The Menace"- Very nice ride, like the color. 😎 • Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
...hey!...I know that it's a Super and not the Roadmaster...but this beautiful '49 ragtop will forever and ever make me ask..." where are Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise?"... ...I'm certain that Dennis must gat that ALL the time... ...did you know, Lou, that the easiest way to tell a Roadmaster?...they were given a 4th porthole on the hood, while the Super, Century and Special all got 3... ...lovely, sexy car from my personal " baloon/pontoon" fender era...

@@loucostabile I'll have to watch the movie again...I think the Rain Man car is a Roadmaster with a Hydramatic Transmission where this close relative is the Super Eight.
Beautiful car...., but it's a 3,900-4,000 pound car (according to Buick). The 'almost 6,000 pounds...' claim is a bit ehh, outrageous, lol. Gorgeous car either way.
Not much difference between the Roadmaster Convertibles and the Supers of that year. The Roadmasters had a few more horsepower and I think that’s about it. Am I missing anything?

Hi Dennis & Lou, my brother has the same name "Dennis" • No • "The Menace"- Very nice ride, like the color. 😎
• Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Hi trainroomgary, Happy to read this car is like your Brothers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Wow! My pedal car when I was 2.
Hi Dan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your pedal car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
...hey!...I know that it's a Super and not the Roadmaster...but this beautiful '49 ragtop will forever and ever make me ask..." where are Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise?"...
...I'm certain that Dennis must gat that ALL the time...
...did you know, Lou, that the easiest way to tell a Roadmaster?...they were given a 4th porthole on the hood, while the Super, Century and Special all got 3...
...lovely, sexy car from my personal " baloon/pontoon" fender era...
Hey G Clark Bloomfield, Hmmm, did not know the 4th port hole detail. Thanks, Lou
I'd rather have the Super with stick which was unavailable on the Roadmaster.
Small design details of the 49 greatly improved the looks from the 48 model
Hi Grampy, It's in the details :-) Lou

Rain Man ride! Nice Dennis!
Hi Pat, Happy to read this one brings memories of that movie car :-) Lou
That is a cool car. I like the dash.
Happy to read you enjoy this "cool car".
Fantastic car in every way! Like the stick as opposed to the usual Dynaflows. Nothing wrong with a Dynaflow fut they were sluggish off the line.
HI Craig, High praise :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Always a lovely your videos congratulations and blessings ❤😂😅.
Nice :-) Blessings received. God bless you. Glad you're along for the ride.
Is that rain man behind the wheel?
:-)
This car wasn't driven from Cincinnati, OH to Los Angeles via Las Vegas in 1988 was it? Was it used in Rain Man or is similar to the Rain Man car?
Hi 325xitgrocgetter, Not aware of this being the "Rain Man" car, however it sure looks like it, Lou
@@loucostabile I'll have to watch the movie again...I think the Rain Man car is a Roadmaster with a Hydramatic Transmission where this close relative is the Super Eight.
GREAT. COLOR. CANARY YELLOW???
Sequoia Cream
Rain Man is a excellent driver
NICE !
Fantastic car!
I'm an excellent driver.
K-Mart sux
Hi Blair, Happy to read you think this car is "Fantastic" and nice movie quotes too :-) Lou
Who feels a need to rewatch Rain Man now?
:-)
Mulholland Falls
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Nice😁
Hi Michael, Happy to read you think this one is "Nice" :-) Lou
What happened to your "prized rosebushes"? Did they die?
Line from Rain man?
@@loucostabile "Charlie"(Tom Cruz's character) only got the Buick and his father's "prized rosebushes". "He definitely got the rosebushes".
Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?
Hi Uri, When they look like this....YES! Lou
Great comment!!
Sure Is Fine For 49!" Advertising slogan of the day.
Beautiful car...., but it's a 3,900-4,000 pound car (according to Buick). The 'almost 6,000 pounds...' claim is a bit ehh, outrageous, lol. Gorgeous car either way.
Hi Michael R, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car. It's pretty heavy either way, and clearly floats down the road :-) Lou
Maybe an Flxible ambulance or hearse woudl weigh in at that. The Super convertible was 3985.
The straight eight engine generates only 150 horsepower, so it takes an eternal 17 seconds to get from 0 to 60 miles an hour.
The tail lights look similar to the first gen Corvette tail lights.
Hi Bob, Thank you for viewing and sharing what you noticed, Lou
The “Rainman” car was a Roadmaster, not a Super. Still, this is a beautiful car.
Thanks for sharing.
Not much difference between the Roadmaster Convertibles and the Supers of that year. The Roadmasters had a few more horsepower and I think that’s about it. Am I missing anything?
Hi Craig, Seems you're correct, however if you're a Buick Expert, feel free to comment, Lou
Dad let’s me drive slow on the driveway...
