Great storage idea's Mass. Thanks for the helpfull ideas. I was a little concerned with storage when we switched from our X2 to a 21 YXZ last year but it's possible to carry whats needed if you work at it. Glad to see your into the YXZ now. You post's have always been filled with great information.
I just bought a never used 2917 YXZ and love it. Great trail machine, decent in the mud but very poor with rock crawling, which is ok because that is the least of my riding by far.
Very thankful for your YXZ videos! I just picked up a 24 XTR and have been disassembling it to learn more about it and install some extra parts. Quick question for you: was there a plastic heat shield panel underneath the driver seat? Mine just has the shroud around the seat frame sliders and then the skid plate below that. I'm in the process of installing GYTR harnesses and a subwoofer, and I'm trying to figure out if the piece you cut on your video is the shroud or a heat shield panel that's missing from my XTR. Here's a video of a 2019 YXZ for reference where the owner is removing his seats, and there is definitely a heat shield panel below the shroud for the seat frame slider. Thanks for your help! th-cam.com/video/2bBO3i7UJWk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=boa7OC6U_5WaZn0n You can see the heat shield right around the 8:32 mark
Yes I cut the plastic section out between the seat frame rails. Fairly easy to do but if you wanted to keep it and make it a flap, you could just cut the front section and trim the sides so you can lift the flap and have it clear the seat frame rails. It's not a heat shield though, just simple plastic. Thanks for watching!
MO I am curious about your thoughts regarding aftermarket cage and harnesses. Also what provisions do you have to address a flat tire. Thanks for your vids and info.
I think if you're duning or constantly doing high speed riding it's a wise investment in both. If you're doing slower speed trail riding I don't think it's as critical. My issue with most of the cage builders is that you have to invest in their roof/windshield solutions or make your own. You can't tell me they can't build a cage that can't accomodate OEM accessories. Beadlocks, tire plugs, and an air compressor have always worked for me. My air compressor is stored under my driver's seat.
Thanks for your response. I just put a LSK radius cage on my 24 but only half way believing it was needed, no dune riding in my future or jumping etc. I can report the cage did very much stiffen the chassis for the better.
Also putting 4.2 harnesses on today, for $100 I couldn’t resist. I hate the stock belts. Since seats are out your under seat tip was perfect timing for me!
If you need every inch of space, I suggest after you buy harnesses (the stock seatbelts suck anyway) remove the seats and cut off the shoulder bolsters. I dune ride and its a good place for some small folding chairs and an umbrella.
I'm actually able to stuff some things in that area in stock form. I"m working with a company that's going to make a roof rack that bolts to the stock cage as well as other storage items. Stay tuned.
Looks like you've owned an Rmax and YXZ. How do they compare for trail riding? I have a YXZ and the suspension is a little stiff but fairly comfortable. The motor isn't too loud and the power is good if you rev it out. How is the comfort of the Rmax and power compared to the YXZ, for trails that is. I may look into a 4 seater Rmax next year and trade in the YXZ. Thanks!
The YXZ is much more comfortable to me and my wife than our RMAX4. I have all 4 shocks on my YXZ set with high speed compression damping set to full soft and rear spring preload set to max but left crossover springs in stock position. When I go on a SAR call, I take the YXZ to HQ and jump into one of our Law Loan RMAX4's and I have to really adjust to the RMAX's left foot rest, which isn't as generous as the YXZ's, and then get used to the upright seating position. Finally the CVT, while great for going smooth and slow for when we have the patient loaded, is simply boring compared to the YXZ. You will certainly miss the YXZ as a driver and the RMAX simply isn't as exciting, but the RMAX isn't going to taunt you to mash the throttle. The RMAX's ride is probably better at slow speeds but the YXZ's suspension is superior at anything more than crawling. If you need the RMAX4 for extra passengers, I guess the point is moot, but I urge you to test drive a 2024 YXZ before making the switch. I have no issues with storage with my YXZ, I just have to get more creative.
@@MassiveOverkill Thanks for the info. I have a '23 YXZ three pedal leftover I just bought a month ago. I have my high and low speed all the way out and I run 30-40mph on trails. It seems to feel pretty good as it's breaking in. My last two cars were an '18 RZR turbo XP4 and '22 X3 DS Max. I regrettably sold the X3 and now I'm back in the game with the YXZ I got stupid cheap. How loud is the Rmax and what about heat in the cab? Thanks again for all your informative vids!
I think the RMAX is louder than the YXZ, even with 23 gram weights in my RMAX4. Heat in cab isn't bad at all stock but once you start adding windshield and enclosures it can get warm. Vented windshield is recommended.
Nice video, YXZ content is rare thank you.
I went with the teseract box and have been super happy with it. Only downside is no place for a lock.

Very well done sir
I have a sb separator does it go flush against the wall?
The OEM cargo box? It follows the profile of the radiator cover and has about half an inch of clearance between it.
As of Jan 2024.. I Canz’t even find the Rear Cargo Box for the 2016-2018 YXZ.. DISCONTINUED…. I Should have bought newer 😔
Sorry to hear that :( Tesseract?
Same here, i went with a generic box and it does very well.
