Hi Bajan Lady, that cake use to be good, I think its the butter their baked with that gave it such a unique taste. Its funny but all bajans remember those lunch cakes. Thanks for watching
You know what's special about these lunch cakes Althea! Everyone have a favorite memory of going to get them or where their got them from. It's always nice to reflect back, it puts a smile on everyone's faces. Thanks for watching
Morning Tina, 8.35 am in London U.K lying in bed watching your lunch cakes videos you made me laugh about the milk and four biscuits we use to get at school, that milk use to taste real good. Also licking the cake bowl when parents finish baking I did that too lol but like you said wouldn't do that today. Didn't get lunch cakes at my school, but normally see them when I go home in the supermarkets. Cakes looks delicious and moist , could eat one with a nice cup of coffee. I like your happy mood today. You are such fun and lovely lady. Have a blessed day. Keep recipes coming please.💕🇬🇧
Hi Angel thank you so much! It was fun going down memory lane with these cakes. i like to tell these stories so younger people will know what fun we had growing up in Barbados. 😀
I do remember having these as part of our (school meal)lunch. They usually arrived in large oblong cake pans, and the servers would cut them in square pieces and served too the students (pupils). It would have been nice if they were cut in larger pieces so that the children could have had more. So that the servers would have gotten less to take home .😗😗😋😋
Looking yummy Tina, such a joy listening to you and remembering eating that Klim milk powder. Enjoyed those school days, just did not like the leather belts even though it made me a better person. I am going to bake this
Thank you Doriel! Lol how can anyone forget those leather belts, I almost felt it when I read your message. Some people said their got real milk including my husband, he used to help unload the milk truck, I never saw a milk truck I got milk powder that was made into milk, I enjoyed eating the powder at the end of the school term. I better not get started lol 😀Thanks for watching.
Marian thank you so much 🙂I'm glad you found my channel to. Unfortunate there's not a lot of bajan cooking channel and my goal is to bring all the bajan dishes to light that some people forgot how to make or just need a quick reminder.Thank you for watching.
Hi Tina, can't thank you enough. Made the lunch cake, my daughter and I love it. It was simply delicious, nice and fluffy. I also made Bajan seasoning and pudding and souse (chicken). Every thing was delicious. Love your easy to follow instructions. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic Lyria! I am so glad to hear your lunch came out good and you were able to enjoy them with your daughter. If you went to school in Barbados be sure to tell your daughter all about the milk, biscuits and lunch cakes that was served. Thank you for watching and giving the other recipes a try.
Wow, Tina how can I miss this; omgoodness. Girlfriend I completely forgot about lunch cakes. Wow, such good memories. I must ask my girlfriend if she remember that because that honestly slipped my memory, lol. They look amazing!!! Dejavou
@@Tinaraine hi Tina I enjoyed your cod fish casserole but wanted the recipe for pudding and souse you did not reply to my text have a great night thank you 👍🇧🇧🙏🏼
Hi Marcel, I did reply to you message. There is a pudding and souse recipe already up, after watching the video scroll down and you will see the written recipe.
Thank you so much Tinaraine, you're a sweetheart! Your family is blessed to have you! You remind me of my aunt Myrna. Yeah , I can taste that sweet, cold milk and crackers right now ! The milk truck would bring it cold in canteens every morning. Can't wait to try your recipe, my daughter loves lunch cake. Stay sweet!
Thank you so much Ayesha! I was just talking to my husband he remembers the milk truck as well, at my school we had milk powder, so there was no delivery trucks. The milk powder was mix with water and that's what we had, but it tasted good. lol the last day of school we were given the left over powder 😊 Hope your daughter enjoys these cakes.
O wow Tina you took me back to my days at Belmont Primary School. I Sure used to look forward to getting the biscuits and milk. But thinking back now to the lunch cake,, I think that's what got my sweet tooth started...lol I also loved the pink ice cream blocks. Thanks for sharing.
I remember the ice cream blocks also, that's so funny because when you think back we would find five cents or ten cents to buy one and it was only a little milk sugar and water but as kids we loved it. lol 😀
I am sooo happy I found this channel omg 😩 lunch cakes were the best thank you miss Tina love tug see and hear ah bajan 🇧🇧mother talk 😂 Happy Mother’s Day to you

Hello Tina how are you doing hope all is well the recipe for your lunch cake is very good you use brown sugar that is the recipe I used for pound cake but with six eggs thank you very much will make it this weekend have a blessed day 🙏😇
Hi Marcel I am doing fine thanks for asking. when my grandmother baked pound cake she used a whole dozen 😊 Glad you were able to watch. Have fun making making your cakes this weekend.
Hi Derika! You are right about that vanilla essence in Barbados it's nice I've used it before but of course it's not that easy for me to get. I will be making my own in an upcoming video soon.that milk and biscuit takes me way back lol. Thanks for watching!
Hi Tinaraine. Girl you ate that cake all wrong. No fork girl. Show them the real bajan way. Fingers with pinky stuck out and teeth sinking in the cake slowly then nibbling when you have a small piece left. Those cakes were like treats to me. I loved them. I loved the strawberry flavored milk and the milk blocks. I went to St. Luke's Primary and the Reverend's wife of the Rectory used to sell the milk blocks. Down memory lane. Great job. I enjoy your videos. Love from BIM
Hi Ettie, your right about the way that cake should be eaten but if your not a bajan you probable wont understand so I have to eat it that way on camera lol. I love going down memory lane every once in awhile it teaches my kids a little about my culture. I am so glad you were able to watch. Thank you and be bless.
I don't have much memories of the lunch cakes but I do of the milk and biscuits. I love eating the dry milk it was so good lol. Thanks for watching and have a very merry christmas and happy new year.
Hi. Made this cake following the recipe. Taste good but came out with a grease line to the base. I live in the Caribbean so not sure if that made a difference. Should not but just asking
Hi Balraj, Thank you for giving the recipe a try! When you say grease line to the base, I'm thinking you are talking about in the bottom of the pan. The only thing I could think of, is when you greased the pan before adding the mixture, could it have come form that?
Thanks for your response. I used waxed paper at the base not grease. By grease line i mean that the bottom 1/4 inch was solid rather than spongy. Like it dropped. Baked for 40 mins at 350 and did not open oven. The taste is great.
@@balrajkistow2696 The only thing I could think of is, did you over mixed the cake once the flour was added? This causes air to get trap which deflates and causes the cake to get dense.

Using around a ¼ cup of condense milk will replace an egg, just remember to go lighter on the sugar when using condense milk.
