Nice video. So, I have a small planted tank that I treat with flourish and I also use tannis. Right now I only use the cartridges that the HOB filter brand provides with the carbon along with some other coarse sponges. At the end of the week the tannins are gone. What’s the perfect combination of filtration to keep the fertilizer and tannins longer? Is that something that just can’t be done?

It’s probably as simple as cutting out the carbon. Sponges and bio media are all you need, save chemical filtration for if you have a problem to solve. This is one of the reasons we don’t like cartridge filters, they don’t let you be choosy about which media you want to use!

Poly filters cost $14.99 and should last around a month before needing to be exchanged. You may be able to combine other media to achieve the same results for less, but there's something to be said for a simple solution!

But carbon will make crystal clear water than this

Carbon will definitely clarify water, but it won't remove everything that Poly Filters do. It has also been linked to head and lateral line erosion if used long term, so we tend to avoid it.
