Ha! Great video, loved every minute of it. That's a Motorola 19P35, the set I grew up with all through the 60's into the early 80's when it finally got hit by lightning (dad bought it brand new it 1963). Can't believe you even plugged it in, but then the damn thing starts working - too much! That's the only tv set we had, but in the 60's all you needed were channels 2 - 13 because there was so much great stuff on to watch. Keeping that set running is what got me started in electronic repair, and even though it's been dead and gone for over 35 years I still have the Motorola factory service manual for it. What a trip to see the inner workings of one again!
The first TV I ever repaired was a 65 Motorola. I think it required one tube, tuner & pots cleaned. Adjustments. Friends passed it around until the 80s. Picture got a bit soft near the end.... love Motorolas.
So true, modern TV and radio sux! I rarely watch or listen too....and what makes it worse is to watch / listen too these vintage gems, you have to deal with garbage / really bad programming!
Vintage Electronics Geek around here I can get 1930's big band music on AM radio It's a god damn miracle because I have an old zenith console radio and the music fits with it perfectly
Fantastic clear picture for this 52 year old TV. That TV would have never expected to see digital transmitted TV images to be displayed on its tube. The replacement HV tube works very well. The glowing of the bulbs is awesome !
This is Awsome man, Seeing these things which were abandoned for so long. a good chunk of our lives actually.. and here we are.. Running power through them once again..
Nice Video! I'm always amazed what these vintage TVs can go through and still work, yet a modern flat panel you can just look at it wrong and the screen cracks and in the trash it goes Lol.
Many flat screens need to be tied down, they use to come with a small cable for that. Kids running around I'm sure knock many of them off the stand. Or a wife throwing something at her husband...and missed!!
iworkout LOL, love how you said "Wife throwing something at her husband...and missed". Yeah it's a shame the poor tv cops it instead of the husband. Haha
One historic aspect about this TV is that 1964 was the last year that it was legal to sell VHF only TVs in the US. (I wonder what the manufacturers and dealers had to do with their remaining inventories of sets like this one at the end of the year.) Indeed, it is fascinating that all of these vacuum tubes, save for the shattered high voltage rectifier, survived these harsh conditions for so many years. I doubt that germanium transistors (or possibly even early silicon transistors and ICs) could have survived this kind of abuse.
Simply amazing... I had "pre owned" B&W Motorola floor model back in the early 70's. That thing just kept on working, I left it with my ex house mates not sure what ever happened to it.
Brilliant video, amazing that the audio still worked, with the original speaker. The HV was present minus the broken output tube. You are the true master in TV repairs, and your video's are the best and most interesting in TV resurrection on TH-cam. Keep up the excellent work mate.
Amazing picture on a set that's been baking in the desert sun for many years! I've noticed that Motorola does use quite a few oddball European tubes in their sets.
Despite the dead spiders that lived in the high voltage, weeds growing everywhere (proves weeds DO grow anywhere), it still came to life, unbelievable!
Man I can't believe you're dealing with a tv set my family had over 50 years ago. Obviously the color of the box faded away dramatically, but it's the same model; no doubt about it. The image looks great for it time. Still remember how many hours I spent watching Lost in Space in one of these.
I am shocked that you pulled a junked TV that's been lying in the desert for years and have it fire up with a great picture. Only a few parts to make it play. fantastic😄
I found it hilarious that the TV basically worked after 60 years, and even better, the American news is comical. I would expect that kind of news reporting in a Fallout game. Best ever youtube video.
Is it a sign of sickness that I have watched all of Shango's video's.....every single one, and this is my 3rd time around lol.....its great that I keep forgetting them and can go around again lol.....
Then I am sick as well. I keep roto tweebulating back to this channel. The fascination with old tech and his unique personality.... Oh and of course the airplanes constantly checking out what he's up to. 👍
wow I have to say you can fix it all and after all this time you got this set going . you fix cars and anything electronic you can probably do plumbing as well. . all the best and keep the great videos coming
That's interesting regarding the 3A3 high-voltage rectifier tube. When I was a kid, I remember we had a 1964 Sylvania roundie color TV in the family living room that used one of those.
11:38 Yep. Picked up a Sanyo 90's low end set at a flea market for free. It's moderately high hour and the tube is weak enough where "smearing" happens and text is hard to read. Which, is why I'm daily driving it. I want to see how bad one of these can get!
Thank you for the video i'm learning a lot... The old vintage TV's now that's quality -- I too like direct tv the best I'm back with direct tv northing beats the clear picture me I picked me up a MCS Turn Table model 6205 year 1980 I plan to relube the motor moving parts with White lithium Grease & zoom spout oil new belt stylus needle..,
I'm so jealous! You can watch the Rio Olympics. 😢😭 I still can't because I have no one to fix up my house antenna so I can watch it. Also wow I can't believe this tv works after what it's been through, I told you that you were a genius at this stuff. 👍🏻❤️😘
Jay Bee OK, sorry. LOL I didn't know that it was a male only section! Women can be allowed to be interested in this type of stuff too.......Oh wait.....Shush please, when you enter my woman cave as its a quiet zone too. LMFAO 🙋🏼😜🤐
No, it means that when there's work being done, we all stay quiet. I don't think I have ever seen him really angry and to be honest, don't wanna find out what happens then. He may give you the plastic TV treatment.
Really enjoy watching your videos, and it amazes me how you get a tv working that is showing the Clinton, Trump campaign 2016 on a set that was made just after Kennedy, and looked totally trashed.
Probablely carton of speaker is broken. You can change it for a new piece, replace the carton paper, or to arrange with white glue for forniture, due it is elastic. I had a Motorola with wooden cabinet, same inches when I was just boen in 1967, here in my country, Chile, SouthAmerica. In 1978 arrived cokor, transmission (NTSC) and my father bought a Sharp 19". We have a GE 19" color for a week before, but at night image showed a bar black up snd down, cause of voltage get low (220V 50Hz) . Huggs.
That vaping ad just reminded me of when my 13 year old son bought one home from school! A friend of his gave it to him with these bottles of different flavours, tasted nasty & I made my son give it back to his friend as I certainly don’t want him taking up smoking! It’s a disgusting filthy habit. :(
That classic interferences sound is produced depending of how white is the image (ilumined screen) and in a normal picture (people talking or movie scene) noise reduces it self, I think. Wonderful to see this restoration. Celebrate this testoration going to a restaurant (restoration - restaurant, it's a joke XD).
Wow now I see what us brits are missing out on as far as top quality tv goes.....Ricky lake on steroids.and the old tv is good.well done for it putting up with that rubbish on its screen Great video Shango, got to love it!
The buzzy audio is often caused by strong signals causing the video to clip. The audio is picked out of the video, so when the video clips, the audio does too. Sometimes a slight backing off on the AGC fixes the problem, if the TV has an AGC control.
Looks like although Motorola did their own thing that it was a good thing. The old, neglected, sun-baked set seemed to _want_ to go back to work. Who'da thought that Raid and Round-Up would be tools in a repairman's TV tool box?
Speaking as someone from The Old Country who was used to Nokia and Sony Ericsson back in the day, I can totally agree that Motorola were weird! I now have a Huawei manufactured Honor 7X which runs the All American operating system known as Google Android. I'm sure you could argue that it's actually the Chinese customised Emotion UI but... 1. I bought the phone in the UK, China pre-installed those All American Google apps. 2. I signed into my Google account, letting the NSA know that I've bought a new phone. 3. I live in the UK and use a British ISP and a British mobile network, GCHQ already know who I am. 4. I signed up for a Huawei ID, letting the Chinese PLA know that I'd bought one of their phones. In short, Chinese Intelligence are getting to know everything that British and American Intelligence have been learning about me this whole time!
"Twerkosquirculate" 😂 That's EXACTLY what that horizontal oscillator was doing. All kidding aside, the logic you use, combined with the humor, make your videos must see TV.
The reason for the light/dark lines, loops, and/or on/off appearance of the CRT is because your camera shoots at 60fps, and NTSC video is displayed at 59.94fps. This difference is where the "Black" parts appear in various shapes and sizes when recording the CRT. When it's dark enough that the shutter speed is under 60fps (when it's dark), you get the whole image.
Amazing what little work it can take to get those desert sets going again. I keep hoping you'll delve into the metal cased RCA set from the "Testing CRTs and Old Television Graveyard" vid. That was the one that got me hooked on your channel. Those earrings are amazing. They make me want to go fishing. "And they lived happily ever after... until she accused him of cheating 3 weeks later. TUNE INTO THE NEXT MAURY TO FIND OUT IF HE'S A LYING BASTARD!!!!!" :|
That's often interesting and depressing... most things I take from the trash don't need any repairs. They just work. My high school once put dozens of Atari MegaST computers on the trash. I specifically asked them to just give them to me, which was denied. So I just "stole" three of them, without a bad heart.
0:26 I thought it's channel 1 it's actually a volume control. I googled images of vintage American TV with channel 1 without success. The FCC removed it in 1948.
Ha! Great video, loved every minute of it. Those earrings on the girl on Morey would make great fishing lures.
The first TV I ever repaired was a 65 Motorola. I think it required one tube, tuner & pots cleaned. Adjustments. Friends passed it around until the 80s. Picture got a bit soft near the end.... love Motorolas.
It doesn't speak well of TV channels when it's more interesting to watch you watch TV, than watching it directly.
Blame the attempted communist overthrow of the west . . they are trying to turn us into mushrooms
Regular TV is full of commercials . They interrupt the program with long ads every few minutes. I hate that.
Never had satellite TV, haven’t had cable since 2001 and very rarely ever watch broadcast TV! I do watch Shango066 TV for the drama !!
We find heaps of them at the local tip & all of them have smashed screens.
Haha

Quality tested to the extreme, buy me, switch me on 30 years later, I work, fill me full of sand and weeds, I work. Much Respect.
I would have been afraid to even plug that up. And it freakin' works.... LOL Cheers! 🍻
Speaks a lot to the quality of things now.
It's hard to imagine that other than a broken tube no parts were required to make it work again. Very decent picture.
Shango You ROCK man. I love all you're videos.
I am just absolutely stunned you got this thing going so easily! Just damn!!!
I love it! You cracked me up trying to adjust the volume with the vertical control.
Amazing picture on a set that's been baking in the desert sun for many years!
I've noticed that Motorola does use quite a few oddball European tubes in their sets.
I'm honesty shocked that it worked with such minimal effort required. I think I'd just clean it up, put a new speaker in it and use it.
I just about fell off my seat when you plugged it in and it started working. You rock! So does the spider TV...best video ever!
So awesome to see these old sets resurrected again great job, hope you save that CRT the rest is junk
Just super!!
How can that work so well like that!
You are the best.
thanks
0:18 the dirt falling out of the bottom of the set completes it pretty well.
Despite the dead spiders that lived in the high voltage, weeds growing everywhere (proves weeds DO grow anywhere), it still came to life, unbelievable!

Shang you sure love a challenge! You inspire me with my own projects :)
These are the videos I love to watch the most... That and people's stupid repairs and how you fix them.
I laughed out loud at the "weeds out of the chassis" comment. I watch tons of these videos; very entertaining. Well done
You have great channels and make very interesting video's thanks for sharing.
its as old as me 😀 amazing how electronics has evolved in 58 years
I found it hilarious that the TV basically worked after 60 years, and even better, the American news is comical. I would expect that kind of news reporting in a Fallout game. Best ever youtube video.
I'm nominating this video as the best Shango066 video. Weeds, spiders, and all, yet audio and high voltage!
Cheers Shango, the news footage was comical too
I recon they should let theses people complete their climbs.
Wow This was really cool. Like the style of that old set. Good picture to
Is it a sign of sickness that I have watched all of Shango's video's.....every single one, and this is my 3rd time around lol.....its great that I keep forgetting them and can go around again lol.....

im just amazed at how you can get these things going, nice job
Sounds like a good name for a rock group, "deep desert resurrection"
love these desert find videos! :)
These videos are fantastic, very much appreciated.
How lazy could the owner have been? They didn't even weed their TV set.
@@the8bitkid698 Just as long as the weed killer is not round up lol
LOL 😂
i really enjoyed watch this.
the picture quality is good.
amazing that you were actually able to get this to even TURN ON!
You iz da man.You iz da reanimator !!! At first the tube looked a bit weedy(pun intended)but then gave a surprisingly good picture !!
That's Amazing! Thank You for sharing yourgreat video. That is one tough TV set.
Can't believe you got it working.
That's interesting regarding the 3A3 high-voltage rectifier tube. When I was a kid, I remember we had a 1964 Sylvania roundie color TV in the family living room that used one of those.
you got it working those motorola's just keep motoring.
38:06 This is the most I've watched the Rio Olympics.
Same here because my house antenna won't work! 😭😡
"Continuing on with the Motorola...... Ugh, spider set."
11:38 Yep. Picked up a Sanyo 90's low end set at a flea market for free. It's moderately high hour and the tube is weak enough where "smearing" happens and text is hard to read.
Which, is why I'm daily driving it. I want to see how bad one of these can get!
The Spider was only doing his job.
Yep leave that spider alone or re-locate to a near by bush.
3 people need to get the hell off shango's channel
Good picture. Nice electronics
"The Golden Voice has had too much to drink" Hahahaha!! love it!!!
great picture from this old desert tv
Very good picture!

Maybe smoked a dry capacitor.
+MisterTalkingMachine LOL, it looks like it. 😝📺🚬

As always excellent work.
Can't help but enjoy your videos but this one was great. 73 Leo
Reminds me of the tv sets in my youth that weren't worth a crap.
32:44 The fine tuning is so good I can see the chroma pattern.
The picture is so sharp you can see the chroma dots. Those TVs take a lickin' and keep on tickin'!
Really enjoy watching your videos, and it amazes me how you get a tv working that is showing the Clinton, Trump campaign 2016 on a set that was made just after Kennedy, and looked totally trashed.
Damn, mother nature shows us once again who's boss, lol.
I've seen plenty of weird bugs inside old TVs but never any sort of plants xD.
Yeah, that volume knob is nut's...cheers.
love your videos keep them coming
Wow, amazing that TV worked at all considering where it was living for who knows how long
great video keep up the awesome work!

The weeds are the only thing holding this TV together. So you might want to leave them in there.
I can not BELIEVE it worked at all in that condition!
42:10-42:20 “Hell yes”😂 That cracked me up!😂😂😂 I love your sense of humor! I’m exactly like you!
What's unusual is, this is the first B&W set I've seen that uses a 3A3 HV rectifier.
My Motorola 1960 23" set uses a 3 volt filament HV rectifier.
Wow now I see what us brits are missing out on as far as top quality tv goes.....Ricky lake on steroids.and the old tv is good.well done for it putting up with that rubbish on its screen
Great video Shango, got to love it!
Crazy stuff man
I think you found spiderman...dried out. Another cool vid
Whats your opinion on Asbestos and wax insulated wires?

OMG your tv is nuts
0:17 Was that TV in Pharaoh's tomb?
WHAT I TELL YA!? WHAT I TELL YA!? WHAT. I. TELL. YA!? 😂😂😂😂
Aye, it's shows like this that make me really quite happy about my life 😊

Excellent video.
what kind of cleaner is good for potentiometers because my he has some dirty controls on it
Deoxit.
Dexoit is too expensive to waste on that POS.
+Danish Native I thought Darkwing duck was asking for their own. I don't know what he's using.

27GB5 is a PL500 over here in the UK, very common, even more so its later version the PL504
Just amazing
0:26 I thought it's channel 1 it's actually a volume control. I googled images of vintage American TV with channel 1 without success. The FCC removed it in 1948.
How do you still pickup channels without a converter box?
I can deal with the dirt and the weeds, but spiders... I would have to soak that thing in a gallon of Black Flag before I ever took it in the house.
luv your videos... Are you going to Burningman this year?
