Just wanted to say I think this event was super sweet. The pre-record was awesome, hearing people have plans and re-adjusting, and the games were great. Here's my vote for more "restricted builds" type of events for the future!
Yeah its sort of like a pseudo-limited environment. You CAN go to a prerelease event with a plan for the kind of deck you build, but you haveto be ready to make do with what you have. I do have to congratulate the crew on some really original decks too, as I probably would have just done flyers or something easy like that.
I wanna say, if you'd turn this into some sort of regular game show concept - think BBC antiques roadshow meets FNPF - I'd watch every time. Oh, and some splash screens with decklists and total price and/or some card image overlays of obscure cards being discussed would be really cool.
@raku5178 Depends on the type of prize, and what they're for. "Most unique decklist" or "commander night bingo" are two ideas I've seen get good casual traction with prizes.
This is probably my favorite FNPF. The pre-record was great, and the 20$ restriction was a neat theme. I'd love to see more of this, maybe a 50$ EDH thing?
This is like that Top Gear thing where they all have half an adventure buying some crummy cars and then go on an adventure, but with the cool folks from LRR and with magic!
I've heard them mention Top Gear a few times in conversation in games before, so I reckon it was definitely inspired by that, even if no-one was consciously thinking "Let's copy Top Gear!". I love it, though. Should absolutely do more stuff like this!
So for what it's worth, per rule 118.4, you *can* dome yourself to 0 by paying life, you just can't pay *more* than you have. (I don't believe it'd have changed any outcomes anyway, just wanted to put it out there if others were curious about that.) (There's also not really much reason to unless you're setting up some major jank, but it's neat that you *can*.)
A little late but Wheeler is behind the counter in one shot and the way they say he was a big help implies they didnt know he was gonna be in the store at the time
This was the most fun I've had watching Magic in a long time! Forget eternal formats, this was spicy as hell. I would love more of this, please! Also, Alex, you missed your chance at calling your deck #SquadGoals
I'm glad everyone had fun and all that, but if it ever comes up again, Gorgon Recluse doesn't kill things until after combat damage happens. A lot of trample damage should have happened, but 1. that is in the nature of this format. stuff gets missed and it's not a huge deal and 2. Cam and Ben had fun interactive games.
But they didn’t miss any trample damage... Cam remembered to take it game one (and even fixed it to go down to two life because he was a little off) and game two the creature blocked by recluse was a three four.
@Sir Garde That would be for cards like those exiled by Thief of Sanity. Effects like those of Electrodominance (the card) or Madness or Cascade (the ability) have to be cast right then and there.
I really appreciate Cam's clear explanations of his plays. As a new player, who doesn't know the older cards, it helps to have him announce how the cards work and when they happen. Also, I watch on my phone a lot, so deskmaster doesn't help me much, though it is appriciated.
After seeing Adam's was mostly Dominaria and Ben's was mostly Theros-block, can we get a 'block constructed' FNPF, where each player has a different block to build around? i.e. someone takes Zendikar, someone takes Innistrad, and they can only use cards from that block. Obviously avoid broken blocks that created bad standards like Mirrodin and Urza's.
Build your own standard is also a fun format (it's based on the old Standard cycles which were 2 blocks + the core set, for this format you choose two blocks and a core set devided over any magic set from which you get to construct your deck). We played this at an invitational once, that was awesome.
@@petervanderham2921 As in ANY two blocks? Or two blocks that were originally together in Standard in the first place? - As in could I choose, say, Urza's, Mirrodin and a Core Set full of useful artifacts? Because that sounds pretty broken! (Of course, like I said, if LRR did this, they shouldn't use the accepted broken sets anyway; I just mean in general as a format overall.)
@@kyleisom839 It's probably easier for non-EDH. That way you can just pick the set's/block's best mechanic synergy and choose the best 15 or so cards that fit it, rather than needing a whole 65+!

I made a really nice commander deck for about 30 bucks a year or two ago. If you make peace with the fact that your manabase is going to be kind of crap (taplands, taplands everywhere) you can make some really good stuff on a tight budget.
