    Lots of interesting things:
    1. The repetition of "gentleman agent" was interesting.
    2. The YOLT seemed to blur the distinction between Sean Connery and James Bond, exactly what he complained about.
    3. Interesting that Tracy is said to be a different kind of Bond girl. She certainly was, but I thought they might not have wanted to mention it when they are also changing the Bond.

Being shown to your seat by a lady with a torch. Usherettes coming into the auditorium with a tray around their necks selling choc-ices and kia-ora orange. Pearl & Dean advertising. Art Deco lighting and ceiling mouldings. And then settling back to enjoy the film. How I miss those days.

Always thought the first three movies were released so close together that pre-production for the next film must have already been underway at EON during the release of the current film. In which case "the first Bond film" statement, while ballsy, was true to their intentions. They were ALL IN on bringing Bond to the cinema and making it an on-going franchise.

    I get the impression from the YOLT trailer that they're trying to emphasize that this is the real James Bond film with the real James Bond actor from the real James Bond filmmakers, in contrast to Casino Royale.

    4:22 I think the announcer said “Hyannis Port”, which is where the Kennedys lived - using the fact JFK was a fan of the books to help give the film some prestige (or book rather - he said he liked From Russia With Love but I don’t know if he ever publicly said he had read the rest). I assume Hyannis Port being where Kennedy lived would’ve been common knowledge back in 62. Sounds a bit jumbled though - I guess the film print deteriorated over the years.

    I thought when they were casting, one of the troubles was that they were looking to find someone who was will to sign up for four pictures. Bond was the MCU before the MCU, planting seeds for future movies they were already working on. They were going to do four films in four years, rain or shine, failure or success. I mean if John F Kennedy's top ten favorite books list having From Russia With Love in it was what the the films going, then why not just do that film, or start with it and see how it goes, unless you were planning on doing a bunch at once.

    There's an interesting error in the From Russia With Love trailer. The announcer says "from Venice to Istanbul, from Paris to London". Paris doesn't feature in the film. However it does in the book, as that's where the Klebb attack on Bond in the Hotel Room occurs, rather than Venice. I wonder how this slipped in? Even if the other Venice parts were separate, surely by the time the trailer was assembled, they knew the Hotel Room scene was in Venice rather than Paris?

Wonder how many more we'll get in the 2020s after No Time to Die was finally released in 2021 following several delayed release dates. I do blame the 60's Casino for starting the code name rubbish in general despite being un-official and to me it never made senses in the Connery-Brosnan era anyway [with the characters aging in 'comic book time'] as Desmond's Q is present throughout and treats each actor as playing the same James Bond character.

      @jamesatkinsonja 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think an enthused Connery would have made that a lot better. I kind of wonder if Lazenby had done You only live twice [as he was a good physical Bond] and Connery did OHMSS that would have been better.

    • @BenCol
      @BenCol 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From what I’ve read it would’ve been a very different film if Connery was Bond - it wouldn’t have simply been the OHMSS we know and love but with Connery instead of Lazenby. Earlier drafts were much more campy (including an underwater Aston Martin that could fire harpoons) - it wouldn’t have been the faithful Fleming adaptation we got in 1969.
      Also they wouldn’t have cast Diana Rigg as Tracy with Connery as Bond.
      I agree that Connery in the OHMSS we got would’ve been great but I’m glad we got the OHMSS we got rather than one which played up the campiness (also I don’t want to live in a timeline where Diana Rigg isn’t Tracy Bond - that was perfect casting).

    • @jamesatkinsonja
      @jamesatkinsonja 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BenCol Fair point. I heard Brigitte Bardot or Raquel Welsh were wanted for Tracy when Connery was going to do OHMSS which would have been awful. I do wonder if making it more serious might have kept Connery onboard as part of his disillusionment with Bond was the OTT aspects in Thunderball and YOLT.

      @BenCol 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Connery's voiceover in the Dr No trailer sounds to me like he's trying to sound more English. Which is fairly plausible, as his accent had not yet become his trademark, so the marketing people may have thought him sounding more English would sell the film better.

    1) Maybe Ian Fleming's name was featured so prominently in the advertising through Goldfinger because Fleming was still alive and after Goldfinger, the movies were less adaptations as just using Fleming's titles. 2) Whereas the '70s trailers featured the screenwriters' names prominently, the '60s trailers only featured the screenwriters' names on Thunderball. 3) If You Only Live Twice was released after Casino Royale, that would give context to calling Sean Connery the one and only.4) "Ravishing redheads." Was the nurse ravishing or did Bond ravish her? He did blackmail her into having sex after all.

    The 2nd (theatrical) Dr. No trailer is the 1 I remember. The 1st one (teaser) you showed was new to me. Pretty much agree with the rankings. Casino Royale's trailer was definitely in a class by itself & not fitting in with the rest. I do enjoy Casino Royale, & leave it at that. But you did leave out 2 trailers for 2 movies loosely connected to Bond, O.K. Connery (aka Operation Kid Brother) & Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Both of them had several actors from the Eon series.

    The Dr.No trailer didn't make me want to watch the film but it was fun to hear Connery do the voice over in an almost English accent. In the first 2 films his voice is more "refined" but by You Only Twice he's full on Scottish. 😂 Ian Fleming seemed to disappear from the OHMSS trailer. It could be they were obligated to give Fleming bigger credit while he was alive. The film posters and promotional products were more about promoting Connery as Bond than the trailers.

It’s supposed to be a spoof. But it is so wacky I really didn’t laugh. Second time I watched it in my life. I saw where they got the Austin Powers idea from. Austin Powers was funny. That movie is just bonkers Just like it’s Trailer.
